DSL Nationals OFF DAY OFF DAY

Rochester 9 Syracuse 1
• Lord 1⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Cate (W, 7-2) 1⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, 2-0 IR-S
• Kieboom 2-4, R, HR(GS), 4RBI
• Baker 2-4, R, BB, 2B, RBI
• Dunn 2-4, R

Rochester sent 13 men to the plate in the 4th and nine came across to score, capped off by a Carter Kieboom grand slam, as the Red Wings defenestrated the Mets, 9-1. Brad Lord struck out four of six batters faced while giving up a hit before leaving due to injury (comebacker off right forearm). The win went to Tim Cate as the pitcher of record in the top of the 4th. Kieboom also singled in the 4th inning and was joined by Darren Baker and Jack Dunn in gooing 2-for-4 with a run scored. Roster moves: RHP Joan Adon recalled to Washington; LHP Joe La Sorsa added to 40-man, recalled to Washington.

Harrisburg 3 Richmond 1
• Solesky (W, 1-4) 8IP, 6H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 5K
• Cronin (SV, 1) 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Lile 2-3, BB, 2RBI
• Morales 1-3, 2B, BB
• Stubbs 1-3, R, 2B, PB

The Senators rallied for three in the 4th to erase a 1-0 deficit and held on to win, 3-1. Chase Solesky pitched a career-best eight innings, allowing the one Richmond run on six hits while striking out eight. It was his first AA win since May 30, 2023. Matt Cronin worked around a two-out single to earn the save for his first career AA save. Daylen Lile’s two-out, two-run single highlighted the offense, which mustered five hits and six walks total.

Brooklyn 5 Wilmington 4
• Cáceres 6IP, 4H, 0R, 2BB, 6K, E(4)
• Shultz 3BF, 1H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 0K, HR
• M. Gomez (BS, 3; L, 3-2) 1IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 0K, 1-1 IR-S
• Stehly 3-4, R, 2B
• Hassell 2-3, R, BB, 2B, 2RBI

A four-run lead was too small for the Wilmington ‘pen to hold as two relievers combined to give up five runs (all earned) on five hits (one HR) and two walks in a 5-4 loss to Brooklyn. That ruined six shutout innings from Bryan Cáceres and two goose eggs from Luke Young, who was lifted after only 14 pitches. Thomas Shultz went walk-homer-walk before taking Miguel Gomez’s beer and watching the 22-y.o. let in his inherited runner and two runs of his own. Murphy Stehly and Robert Hassell combined for five hits, two runs, two doubles, and two RBI to lead the Blue Rocks offense.

Salem 4 Fredericksburg 0
• Polanco 4IP, 3H, 0R, 1BB, 4K
• Amaral (L, 4-2) 3IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 5K, HR
• Vaquero 1-3, 3B, 2K, OF assist @ 2B
• Lomavita 1-3, 2B, 3K

The FredNats offense remained AWOL on Saturday night, getting shut out on four hits in a 4-0 loss that reduced their lead over the Red Sox to one game. Bryan Polanco went the first four and gave up three hits and a walk while striking out four. The loss went to Austin Amaral with two runs let in on two hits (one HR) and a walk over three innings. Fredericksburg batters struck out 15 times to gain ground on Myrtle Beach for the league lead in whiffs (1142 vs. 1150. Caleb Lomavita doubled (and struck out three times) and Christhian Vaquero tripled (fanned twice) for the two extra-base hits out of four total.

DSL Nationals, 22-29, 6th place DSL Central, 16GB
Barring rainouts, the DSL Nationals will close out the ’24 season with a home game tomorrow and a road game on Sunday.

Why was it a bullpen day in Rochester? Are we sure Lord wasn’t pulled due to injury? He was absolutely dealing until that point.

A come-backer hit Lord’s hand and he was pulled right away after that.

And what with Elijah Green bases loaded Vs a wild Salem reliever who just walked Cox schools Green on three pitches ?

There should be a nice mixture of intl and domestic arms on FRED next spring
Barring the usual winter / early spring injuries : De LA Cruz and Feliz from FCL
Several rehabbers from 2024 60 day list and Pershing the draft trio of Kent , Bruni and Beeker .
Should be interesting to see if De La Cruz and Feliz double their IP load advancing to FRED .

Does anyone know what is going on with Cole Henry?

    1. KW says:
      August 18, 2024 at 12:48 pm

Weirdly, the big club hasn’t put Henry on the 60-day IL, despite all the guys who they have been running on and off the 40-man in the last few weeks. You would think that means that they hope he can pitch again this season, but who knows.

Henry just turned 25 last month and is a year younger than Cavalli, so there’s still time for him to turn into something if he can ever get completely healthy. In retrospect, it sure seems like the Nats should have shut him down for a lot longer in 2023.

      1. Luke Erickson says:
        August 18, 2024 at 1:30 pm

According to BA, Henry was transferred to the 60-Day sometime between July 14 and August 14.

Luke you might have a free morning writing up the Sunday on Monday
So much thunderstorms on east coast
Good blog write up recently , Todd .
A good handful of youngsters have risen to the occasion with those on the sidelines . Stuart and Solesky filling innings for Delino as did Lord and Luckham before promotions .
In the future we will find out just what is within the likes of Theophile , Cuevas , Young , Bennett , Sullivan , Aldonis and several other disabled arms on FRED 60 day .
Too bad JR probably will get rained out today . He needs the work .
Ok now : call ups once farm season over ?

    1. human league says:
      August 18, 2024 at 1:18 pm

I should not say this but I will : in the farm system some prospects just get passed by . Nats acquired Stuart to fill the space that Henry could never get back to this season
Cade and Cole . And the Roman chorus sighs ..,
Interesting Jackson Kent grew up in the Chicago neighborhood around Chicago Ohare and like many kids from that area flock out to UA for schooling and the sunshine
Looking forward to his progression in 2025 .
