Rodney Theophile made the start but needed 71 pitches to get 11 outs as he allowed one hit, four walks, and two Robles. The win went to Daison Acosta for negotiating the top of the 10th without letting in the free runner. Yoyo Morales and Cortland Lawson both singled twice to lead the Senators hit column.

Armando Cruz homered while Jared McKenzie singled, took second on a T.J. White walk, and scored on Gavin Dugas’s two-out single. Angel Feliz and Eyeksson Rojas both homered, combining to go 3-for-8 with two runs and four RBI while Dashyll Tejeda stole four bases to take the league lead with 42 swipes.
A tale of two prospects:
Feliz: .319/.392/.482
Hurtado: .218/.310/.331
Yet MLB.com has Hurtado ranked ahead of Feliz, and both ahead of substantial prospects like Lara, Bennett, and Stuart. Curious.
Feliz: $1.7m bonus. Hurtado: $2.8M.
Prospect ranking by signing bonus. Its why we still see the likes of Cruz (3.9M), Vaquero (4.9M) still higher than they deserve to be by production and its why Antuna ($3.9M) was given more chances than Steve Howe,
And on the flip side, the gurus weren’t that enthusiastic about Soto because his bonus wasn’t that much. Even within the Nats’ system, they couldn’t believe that he could be better than Robles.
When guys they overhyped early don’t live up to it, some still get carried way too high on the lists (Antuna, Vaquero), while others get flushed entirely. What if I told you that the Nats had drafted a 6-4 pitcher, age 21, who went to Wilmington and posted a 2.35 ERA and 11.4 K9, then got promoted to AA and was holding his own? His name is Andry Lara. He would have been a college draftee this year. He was once a darling of the gurus, ranked as high as #4 or #5 in the system. He’s perfectly on age-appropriate target, but they won’t give him the time of day now.
Todd I met Steve Howe in the late 80s maybe 90 -91 at a San Jose Giant baseball game at the old city stadium with the good bbq hut .

Ground hogs day !
Theophile left the mound with the trainer. As noted, he didn’t have very good control so maybe it was an injury.
he did have lousy control, I was thinking more of a blister when he left the field with Don. That’s two nights in a row that it was a bunch of hit batters. It’s good to see Yohandy playing again, now to get Robert back.
