Harrisburg Lost, 6-1 OFF DAY N/A
Wilmington Lost, 14-9 OFF DAY N/A
Fredericksburg Won, 6-5 OFF DAY N/A
DSL Nationals OFF DAY vs. DSL Angels, 11 a.m.

Omaha 9 Rochester 1
• Luckham (L, 1-2) 4⅔ IP, 6H, 6R, 6ER, 4BB, 2K, 2HR
• La Sorsa 1⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, 1-0 IR-S
• Lindsly 1-3, BB, 2B
• Mejia 0-2, 2BB

The Storm got to the Red Wings for five in the 1st and cruised to a 9-1 win to earn a series split. Kyle Luckham gave up six runs on six hits, inlcuding a grand slam in the 1st and a solo HR in the 5th as he lost his second AAA game. He walked four and struck out two over five and 2/3rds. Brady Lindsly (double, walk) and Erick Mejia (2BB) were the only two Rochester batters to reach base. Despite going 0-for-5 with RISP, Rochester broke up the shutout bid in the 6th on a Carter Kieboom groundout following a walk, a Robles, and a flyout. Roster moves: RHP Luis Reyes released.

Akron 6 Harrisburg 1
• Stuart 6IP, 4H, 0R, 2BB, 9K, BK
• Powell (L, 2-6) 1+ IP, 1H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 1K
• Acosta 1IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 0BB, 1K, HBP, WP, 3-3 IR-S
• Lile 2-3, BB, 3B, RBI
• Arruda 0-2, R, BB

Akron and Harrisburg had a donut shop going on the scoreboard until the 8th when the Ducks sent 10 men to the plate and six crossed the plate. The Senators barely broke up the shutout, as J.T. Arruda drew a two-out walk in the 8th and Daylen Lile followed with a triple. It was the fourth and final hit for Harrisburg. Tyler Stuart notched his sixth quality start of ’24 with six scoreless innings, with two walks and nine strikeouts. The loss went to Holden Powell as he loaded the bases with nobody out to start the 8th and Daison Acosta let ’em all in, then three of his own in a single inning pitched.

• Shuman 3IP, 7H, 6R, 6ER, 0BB, 4K, 3HR, 2HBP
• L. Young (L, 3-10) 2IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 2K, HR
• Suggs 2-2, R, HR, 2RBI
• Stehly 2-4, R, BB, 3B, 3RBI
• White 1-3, 2R, 2BB, RBI

The Blue Rocks actually led this one 6-2 early but couldn’t keep the ball in the yard as the Drive smacked four homers to take the game, 14-9 and the series, 4-2. Seth Shuman gave up six runs on seven hits (three HR) and two hit batsman over three innings. Luke Young notched his tenth loss, giving up two runs over two innings while walking one and striking out two. T.J. White and Murphy both reached base three times, with White surfacing over the Mendoza line for the first time since April 16.

Fredericksburg 6 Lynchburg 5
• Sthele 5IP, 8H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 3K, HR
• S. Vasquez (W, 5-2) 1IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 1K
• Arguelles (SV, 5) 2⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Morales 2-4, RBI
• Farmer 2-3, R, BB
• Mota 2-4, R, 2RBI, SB, CS

Fredericksburg erased a 4-1 deficit with a five-run 7th and held on to edge Lynchburg, 6-5. Travis “Sunday” Sthele reverted to his early season form and had one scoreless inning out of five as he gave up singles runs in his last four frames, allowing the aforementioned eight runs on eight hits and two walks. He stuck out three. The win went to Samuel Vasquez with a scoreless 6th while the save went to Anthony Arguelles, who stranded three while getting the last out of the 8th and then tossed two perfect innings. Caleb Farmer reached base three times on two singles and a walk while Jorgelys Mota singled twice, scored once, drove in two, and stole a base to pace the FredNats attack.

DSL Nationals, 18-24, 6th place DSL Central, 13GB
The D-Nats took four of five and gained a half game in the standings, but will have to keep up that pace to have any hope of finishing at or near .500. This week it’s home games today and Thursday and road games on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Wow, Luis Reyes released. Signed by the Nats in August 2012, Reyes has been the loyal farmhand for 12 years, being plugged in to wherever the team needed him. I hope the front office treated him well with this. He deserves it.

Without checking, I think it’s pretty safe to assume he was the longest tenured Nats in the org. While Reyes was rarely good (only two of his 11 seasons had a sub 4.00 ERA, which were interestingly his first two) he was always dependable. In his starter years, he was always good for 20+ starts, and once he shifted to the bullpen 30+ games. Almost poetically, symbolizing Reyes’s almost-there career, he threw 999 IP for the Nationals (986.1 in regular season ball + 12.2 in the AFL). Guys like Luis Reyes are what Minor League Baseball is about. He should be proud of everything he’s accomplished in his long career. It’s far more than 99% of all baseball players.

The guy who got the pitching W for Akron, Magnus Ellerts, is from Woodbridge and is the son of a former rec league baseball teammate of mine. He was an 11th round draft pick but has pitched well since reaching AA.

There’s a lot to like so far about Stuart. Fingers crossed that this is another Herz-level trade return.

Congrats to TJ White on getting above the Mendoza Line! Something seems to have finally clicked on June 27th. Since then (30 games ago), he’s hit .308/.378/.542, which given his streakiness, just might be his longest run of good performance in his career. Hope he can keep it up through the rest of August!

I hope he keeps it up as well! Yet, he has a lifetime batting average of .218 in 893 at bats, all in A ball or below. Still a long long shot.

Morales is hitting .467/.467/.933 through 4 games, with a hit in each game and multiple hits in 3 of 4. He looks ready to me.
