Rochester vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre – PPD
Game Three of the Rochester-Scranton/Wilkes-Barre series was rained out. They’ll shoot to make it up tonight with twi-night doubleheader.
Portland 8 Harrisburg 0
• Peterson (L, 1-4) 1IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 1K
• Schoff 3IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Morales 2-3, BB, 2B
• Lile 1-4, 2B
The rains held off in Central PA but perhaps that wasn’t a good thing as Portland shut out Harrisburg, 8-0. Todd Peterson was the opener and the losing pitcher as the Sea Dogs jumped on him for three runs on three hits and two walks in the 1st. Yoyo Morales singled, walked, and doubled while Daylen Lile doubled once and struck out twice – one of 11 on the night for the Senators during their 13th shutout of the season.
Aberdeen 4 Wilmington 2
• Cáceres 6IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 7K
• Arias (L, 4-3) 1IP, 1H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 0K
• Vega 2-4, R, PB
• Wallace 1-1, R, BB, RBI
Wilmington jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the 1st and 3rd, but the bullpen wasn’t up to the task as Aberdeen got three runs late to win 4-2. Bryan Cáceres notched his third straight quality start… and third straight no-decision, giving up one run on three hits, no walks, and seven whiffs over six. The loss went to Wander Arias, who let in two in the 8th on a single and a sac fly after issuing two walks. Onix Vega led the Blue Rocks five-hit barrage with a pair of singles while Cayden Wallace came out of witness protection to draw a walk in the 1st and score ahead of T.J. White’s triple. Roster moves: 3B Cayden Wallace assigned from Harrisburg for MiLB rehab.
Kannapolis 8 Fredericksburg 7
• Roman 2IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 4K
• Bollenbacher (L, 1-2) 1IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 0K
• Green 3-4, 3R, BB, 2B, 0K, 2SB
• King 2-5, R, 3B, RBI
• Rombach 2-5, 2RBI
The FredNats rallied for three in the 8th and three in the 9th to erase a 7-1 deficit but were walked off for an 8-7 loss, which reduced their lead over the Mudcats to 1/2 a game. Angel Roman got the start and gave up a run over two innings on four hits and a walk. He struck out four. Matt Bollenbacher took the loss as he gave up a double-single-single sequence in the 9th after pitching a scoreless 8th. Elijah Green reached base four times, scored three times, and stole two bases while Nate Rombach singled twice and drove in two to lead the Fredericksburg offense. Roster moves: RHP Merrick Baldo placed on the 7-day I.L.
the three hits Angel Roman gave up in the first were a GB that King fielded into a single, a flare to right and a chopper that went under Mota’s glove. he looks like a young Tim Cate, time will tell if he can do better at the higher levels
congrats to Green, one game after a disastrous night. his 37 SB’s against 3 CS is a good indication that he shows up every night and competes.
Nice remarks FredMD
Listen to the Doctor , Doobie Bros
I’m going to pick up a horn and blow some good notes for B. Caceres !
His outing last night after the one against Hudson Valley is making some of us wonder what 2025 has in store for him !!!
Two bullpen outings for two affiliates on the same night . I’m sure there are some young pitchers on the DL lists thinking : those could have been my innings .
Terry Byrom didn’t specify in his remarks, but given the threat of rain, a lot of managers will start a reliever in that situation. Considering that Shuman is coming off an injury, they probably didn’t want him to warm up and then have the game get called.
Atencio 127 IP. Work horse !
I’m guessing (re Cayden Wallace) that the word “rehab” is missing.
I guess assigning him to rehab allows his Harrisburg roster spot to be taken by someone else.
According to Mark Zuckerman, Wallace was dealing with a fractured rib at the time of the trade. He has been on the IL numerous times while with KC minor leagues.
Fractured ribs no fun
I missed spring training one year with a cracked rib head
Laid up unbearable
If Wallace is healthy enough, he would seem to be a good AFL candidate, as would other guys like Morales and Hassell who missed a good bit of time due to injury.
good call
And pitchers like Dustin Saenz, Seth Shuman and Tyler Schoff,
And if Cade Cavalli isn’t dead, then maybe him too? But is he disqualified for technically being a major leaguer?
