DSL Cardinals vs. DSL Nationals – CNCLD
Rain gave the D-Nats a day off. The game will not be made up.
The Nats spent $16,435,200 in total in the 2024 MLB draft.
They spent $14,575,200 in total against their slot value cap of $13,895,100 so the #Nats went over the cap by 4.90% which cost the team an additional 75% penalty of $510,000.
This years draft looks like a real winner.
good intel here, an indication that the organization is committing the resources. now for the development…
Yohandy Morales has already gone deep in his two game rehab assignment as many times as he had previously in his 79 game professional career (twice). I know he’s too good/highly rated for low A pitching, but it’s impressive that he’s returned from a long injury having seemingly fixed the biggest criticism of him (inability to hit for power). I expect it won’t be long before he’s back in Harrisburg.
Also interesting to see Chaparro’s first game come at DH. There’s concerns about his defense at 3B, and with House there, I don’t see how he gets any real playing time there. But 1B is wide open. Meneses, himself, isn’t a great 1B, so it’s interesting that Chaparro got the start at DH and Meneses in the field. I’ll be watching where they play Chaparro, because the Nats need to make a quick decision as to whether he’s worth a 40 man roster spot, or we’ll lose him to free agency this winter.
Yeah, I also looked to see what position Chaparro played, only to find “DH.” As I wrote on Todd’s site, I’d call him up and give him a look with the big club at 3B right now. What could it hurt?
the Rocks went with their strength to break up the perfect game. despite being at the bottom of the league in virtually offensive stat, they’ve been hit with more pitches than anyone else in the Sally.
Wilmington should give out the “ Boots Day “ award for most HBP.
Gene Mauchs mighty scrapper in MTL .
Think you mean Ron Hunt – lead league in HBPs 4 times in Montreal, 7 times in his careers.
That’s right . Too much coffee this morning
Ok folks : first off several of the affiliates must be the butt of jokes on the bus rides by opponents thinking they might be heading into a no hitter .
Anyway . God only knows the alchemy within Fred having a winning record .
Sunrise in Albuquerque is amazing today .
Comps to Atencio for his effort last night and also a big one for Ward against Omaha who seems like a Intl League championship club .
Morales might stick around FREd long enough until the Golden Hawaiian Bear shows up .
Go get ‘em Abe . Chase those storm chasers !
Quick url fix for AAA box score
https://www.milb.com/gameday/storm-chasers-vs-red-wings/2024/08/01/752511/final/box
looking at the box score Crews was given a throwing error on a perfect one hop strike to home that would have ended the game when the third base coach sent the runner trailing by six. he was dead to rights but Lindsly couldn’t hold it.
Thanks, a quote got eaten in the code.
Out of a season of highs and lows, the biggest disappointment for me has got to be Christian Vaquero.
I kept my expectations very low for the Kline era draftees, so I can’t say I’m shocked that guys like Rutledge, Infante, Frizell, et al have either played poorly, or gotten released or inevitably injured,.
But I did have some at least hope for Vaquero but what in the world has happened ?
Anyone know what’s going on?
He’s a prime example of a prospect being hurt because there’s no longer short season minor league baseball.
He’s also got a bit of Willie Mays Hayes to him. He swings like he’s built like Aaron Judge but in reality I’d be surprised if he actually weighed more than 170 pounds.
All of that said, the template is there for him to still become a good baseball player. Smooth athlete, nice frame (he’s tall) and still a teenager. 2025 will be huge for him. I’d assume he repeats Fburg.
Have any of our 2024 draftees emerged yet?
For the other 29 teams… have any of the 2024 draftees emerged yet?
Why do I feel like this is another example where we’re behind the curve? Assuming the answer to my first question is ‘no’… presumably we’ll see some appear in time for Tuesday’s games?
The Nats are routinely one of the last teams to have their draftees report, so it won’t surprise me if it takes another week. This year is a weird one though, because the FCL no longer exists as a soft introduction to professional ball. That’s not a big deal for the first rounders, but could be for the later round picks. Will be interesting to see if a bunch of the bats even appear this season.
In case you were wondering, of the 7 bats taken before King, 3 have played, so there’s still time before the Nats find themselves last.
