Eddie Marmolejos had two of the D-Nats’ five singles while Dashyll Tejeda drew two of their four bases-on-balls.
Yesterday probably was the best summer night of starts collectively for Nats starters up up and down the chain .
The Hunter Harvey trade geeks like Kyle Davidson deal with Chicago Blackhawks NHL acquiring another first rounder .
Hmmm. So Haas can select Ranier and BC can has his type guy selected . A hitter and a starting pitcher ? Caminetti .
? Yea on Trea ?
AND! Delino has another bat to add to the lineup with versatility like Paul Witt .
Arkansas Razorback alum
Lay your bets for Sunday
Two hitters and a pitcher with 3 picks in first two rounds or two pitchers and a hitter ?
I’ll go with the latter
Bummer ! Wallace on the DL .
Could yo – yo and Hassell 3 return with Wallace by August ??
Could this become with the competitive balance pick
One of Rizzos shrewdest picks ?
Is this the career opportunity for Salazar or Joan Adon to take HHs bullpen role in time ?
Not a bad return for a guy claimed on waivers from Orioles .
the key for Harvey was always health (one time he was injured getting hit in the dugout by a batted ball!). I recall reading a report that he and his father tweaked his delivery before last season to try to stay on the mound. it seems to have worked and this is a nice result for the Nats.
Lots of different possibilities. Callis mentioned them still being rumored as going underslot for catcher Caleb Lomavita at 10. Too tired to lay out all the math, but that could lead to something like Lomavita, William Schmidt, Tommy White, PJ Morlando.
I would love to see another high end pitcher added with what they have done with Susana and Sykora (among others)
Buying someone like Hagen Smith or Jac Cags down to 10 is also possible, but less likely IMO.
My choice would be coming out of this with something like Griffin-Schmidt-White. Nats would get the highest ceiling hitter and pitcher in the draft.
The Nats do need to bolster the catching in the organization, but Lomavita would be a significant overreach at #10 according to most boards. There’s a chance he could still be available when the Nats pick again at #39. If not, they could look at Jake Cozart of NC State at 39 or 44.
It will be interesting to see if one or more of the college stars price themselves out of the top of the draft and fall down toward our range at #10.
According the Keith Law and others, this isn’t a draft to go for underslot savings to save for later picks. With such a thin draft, the quality of depth just isn’t there.
You’re a much bigger fan of taking high schoolers than I am! Law is speculating that the Nats will avoid Griffin and his contact questions specifically because of Green’s struggles.
See my post regarding Griffin vs. Green in yesterdays comments.
As far as Lomavita, obviously the Nats would think he won’t make it to 39 in that scenario. Baseball’s draft is not about who will go where based on merit. The fact that you can manipulate your pool money creates weird situations. In that case, getting the combo of those four would be better than what they would get with their 1st four picks going conventially.
While this year is not considered as good, we will still see teams going slot high and overslot late. There are some very talented players that will get pulled down to the 30s and later.
Schmidt scouting report has such upside .
But Rizzo loves his catchers
Lord definitely showing more respect and getting hit harder by the AAA batters. still challenging them however and showing confidence and commanding all his pitches. glad to see him get a win for a gritty performance.
Why not request an interview with Rizzo at least a top staff member to discuss a few questions you have been having about prospects? For example, what’s up with the Matt Cronin mystery?
I’ve had the same question for a long time with this org. It seems Martinez is the only person allowed to talk. Why are there never any in season interviews with the farm director, pitching coach, hitting coach , scouting director,, the coaches at the various minor league levels….hell even Rizzo himself,.
And this cold war secrecy imposed about player injuries is beyond comprehension
I haven’t been following Eduardo Salazar at all. Does anyone have info on him? Also, Jack Sinclair seems to be putting up consistent numbers. What kind of stuff does he have? Is he a prospect?
I like what Brad Lord has done so far at Rochester. He’s not dominating, yet, but remember he started the year at High A Wilmington.
There are 2-3 relievers at Rochester that could be called up to replace Harvey, it’s good to have those choices.
As for the draft EAPN has mock drafted Kurtz at 13. I f the 1st baseman out of Wake forest is still there at #10 the Nats would be negligent not to take him.
I remember when KW and I kept saying the Nats should have taken Brooks Lee at #5 and they took Elijah Green instead. Now Lee is already in the majors and Lee is still at Low A.
Delino needs a healthy roster and Cronin
In town long enough to help win a few games .
Yes Cal Bear Caleb an over reach
We didn’t need Keith Law angle to have us come up with that viewpoint .
If Ranier gone by ten I’d love to see the East Carolina Pirate gang planked in ..
Todd made an excellent point on his site that the pick also adds 2.3M of money to the draft pool, the return got even better when I read that.
So FRED MD that 2.3 million should be vested in the ten slot pick ? I’ve liked Hagen Smith all season
Amos Willingham called up by Washington! Why him?
First, because he’s already on the 40 man. Second, because since his very bad start to the season, he’s been pretty good. Over his past 20 games, he has a 3.47 ERA/1.15 WHIP.
