Syracuse 12 Rochester 2

• Gsellman 2⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 2BB, 1K, 3-1 IR-S
• Yepez 3-4
• Adams 2-4, 2R, HR, RBI

Dylan Crews and James Wood were reunited but the future outfield for the Nats would be an afterthought in a 12-2 Syracuse thrashing of Rochester. Andrew Alvarez didn’t make it out of the 2nd as he was thrashed for four runs on two hits and four walks to lose his second AAA game. He struck out one. Crews would go 0-for-5 in his AAA debut while Wood would walk in the 1st and ground out twice before he was lifted in the 6th. Juan Yepez singled three times while Riley Adams homered and scored twice to lead the Red Wings offense. Roster moves: OF Dylan Crews promoted from Harrisburg; OF James Wood activated from 7-Day I.L.; C Jarrett Gonzales, IF Ericks Mejia placed on the Development List.

Harrisburg 7 Hartford 1
• Lord (W, 8-1) 7IP, 3H, 0R, 3BB, 7K
• Acosta 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Lile 1-3, 2R, 2BB, RBI, 2K
• Arruda 1-2, 2BB, 2B(10), 2
• Lawson 2-4, RBI

Meanwhile, back at the City Isle, Brad Lord didn’t throw the perfect game that appears to be necessary to join the rotation at AAA in a 7-1 Senators win. Instead, Lord only threw seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out seven for his eighth win. Daylen Lile singled, scored twice, walked twice, and struck out twice in his AA debut. Cortland Lawson led the Senators hit column with two singles while Andrew Pinckney drew three of the team’s eight walks and stole his 15th base. Roster moves: OF Daylen Lile promoted from Wilmington.

Wilmington 12 Aberdeen 7
• Theophile(W, 3-4) 6IP, 4H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 10K, HR, WP

• M. Romero 2-5, R, 2B, HR, 2RBI
• Peña 1-4, 2R, BB, 3B, RBI, SB

Two missed extra points didn’t cost the Blue Rocks as they held off an IronBirds counterstrike for a 12-7 win. Rodney Theophile tied his career high in strikeouts with 10 but gave up an Earl Weaver special with two out in the 6th to lose his quality start. He finished with four runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. Kevin Made singled twice, doubled once, scored twice, drove in two, and walked once while Max Romero took offense to Will’s comments and racked up six total bases with a double and a homer and two RBI. Roster moves: 1B Joe Naranjo assigned from Washington (MLFA, released June 3 by Cleveland).

Down East 6 Fredericksburg 1
• Shuman (L, 0-2) 3IP, 4H, 2R, 1ER, 0BB, 4K
• B. Sanchez 2IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 0K, WP, BK
• Farmer 2-3, R, BB
• Pimentel 1-3, BB, 2K

The Wood Ducks got two spots in the 2nd, 7th, and 9th innings while the FredNats pushed across a single run to lose, 6-1. Seth Shuman lost for the second time at Low-A with two runs let in on four hits over three innings. He walked none and struck out four. Caleb Farmer reached base three times on a walk and two scored and scored ahead of Everett Cooper’s RBI triple in the 2nd. Fredericksburg struck out 14 times total with Nate Ochoa and Elijah Green combining for seven.

FCL Mets 6 FCL Nationals 2
• A. Roman 2IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 3K
• Fortunato (L, 0-2) 2IP, 1H, 3R, 3ER, 4BB, 1K, HBP
• K. Diaz 2-3
• W. Diaz 1-3, BB

A three-run 3rd was the undoing of the FCL Nationals, who lost for the third time in four games, 6-2. Angel Roman went the first two innings, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three. Marcos Fortunato handed over his beer and let in three more runs on one hit and four walks over the next two frames fot his second loss. Kelvin Diaz singled twice while Winder Diaz reached base twice on a single and a walk as the F-Nats totaled five singles and four walks on offense.

DSL Cardinals 10 DSL Nationals 4

Nats probably started watching Santucci at Phillips Academy in Hanover Mass
Isn’t Rizzo Italian ? They both must love pasta and the breads

Santucci is from Leominster which is about 5 minutes from me.

ESPN (2rounds) and The Athletic released mock drafts this morning. Any Nats info would be appreciated.

Keith Law has them taking OF Braden Montgomery with P Trey Yesavage going two picks later

I love Yesavage. Nats new draft guys go bats almost always. ESPN is Griffin and Santucchi from Duke.

If Montgomery falls because of his injury he’s probably a must-take at 10, right? Believe he was a consensus top 5 guy before breaking his ankle.

McDaniel from ESPN has us taking HS SS Konnor Griffen. He had Montgomery to Kansas City at 6, FWIW. Here’s McDaniel’s write up (sounds like we’re not in on a college arm):

“Griffin or the best college position player available is believed to be the mix here. The Nats have a new scouting group in control for its first draft together. Griffin could be the rare player who balances the upside-at-all-costs approach Washington was known for under the old group and the more modern approach of the newer group, with GM Mike Rizzo, a former scouting director himself, the bridge between the two regimes.”

Thank you. Does it say anything about the Santucci pick at 44? Nats seem to like bigger pitchers early. Speaking of 2nd round lefties, I wonder if Bennett is getting close.

while Made has clearly fallen off from his good start to the season I would not be surprised to see him rebound in the second half. he looks solid at the plate and except for recently, shows good plate discipline.

season high 99 pitches for Theophile, still time for him to reclaim some of that prospect buzz from ’22.

Crews needs to continue the more patient approach he showed in May. he can be like Dottie’s little sister on those high fastballs. I know Jeff’s a big Daubach fan, maybe he can get through to him

Thanks Luke for the Mays photo. It’s almost always shown in black and white.
What’s not mentioned much is the center field wall was so much farther than most.

18th round pick Brad Lord is, incredibly, overmatching AA hitters again. Amazing!
