Dylan Crews and James Wood were reunited but the future outfield for the Nats would be an afterthought in a 12-2 Syracuse thrashing of Rochester. Andrew Alvarez didn’t make it out of the 2nd as he was thrashed for four runs on two hits and four walks to lose his second AAA game. He struck out one. Crews would go 0-for-5 in his AAA debut while Wood would walk in the 1st and ground out twice before he was lifted in the 6th. Juan Yepez singled three times while Riley Adams homered and scored twice to lead the Red Wings offense. Roster moves: OF Dylan Crews promoted from Harrisburg; OF James Wood activated from 7-Day I.L.; C Jarrett Gonzales, IF Ericks Mejia placed on the Development List.

Instead, Lord only threw seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out seven for his eighth win. Daylen Lile singled, scored twice, walked twice, and struck out twice in his AA debut. Two missed extra points didn’t cost the Blue Rocks as they held off an IronBirds counterstrike for a 12-7 win. Rodney Theophile tied his career high in strikeouts with 10 but gave up an Earl Weaver special with two out in the 6th to lose his quality start. He finished with four runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. Kevin Made singled twice, doubled once, scored twice, drove in two, and walked once while Max Romero took offense to Will’s comments and racked up six total bases with a double and a homer and two RBI. Joe “ Banjo “ Naranjo ?
Luke what you think ?
Nats probably started watching Santucci at Phillips Academy in Hanover Mass
Isn’t Rizzo Italian ? They both must love pasta and the breads
Santucci is from Leominster which is about 5 minutes from me.
ESPN (2rounds) and The Athletic released mock drafts this morning. Any Nats info would be appreciated.
Keith Law has them taking OF Braden Montgomery with P Trey Yesavage going two picks later
I love Yesavage. Nats new draft guys go bats almost always. ESPN is Griffin and Santucchi from Duke.
If Montgomery falls because of his injury he’s probably a must-take at 10, right? Believe he was a consensus top 5 guy before breaking his ankle.
McDaniel from ESPN has us taking HS SS Konnor Griffen. He had Montgomery to Kansas City at 6, FWIW. Here’s McDaniel’s write up (sounds like we’re not in on a college arm):
“Griffin or the best college position player available is believed to be the mix here. The Nats have a new scouting group in control for its first draft together. Griffin could be the rare player who balances the upside-at-all-costs approach Washington was known for under the old group and the more modern approach of the newer group, with GM Mike Rizzo, a former scouting director himself, the bridge between the two regimes.”
Thank you. Does it say anything about the Santucci pick at 44? Nats seem to like bigger pitchers early. Speaking of 2nd round lefties, I wonder if Bennett is getting close.
All our Stanford guys going back to expo years always flamed out
while Made has clearly fallen off from his good start to the season I would not be surprised to see him rebound in the second half. he looks solid at the plate and except for recently, shows good plate discipline.
season high 99 pitches for Theophile, still time for him to reclaim some of that prospect buzz from ’22.
FredMD what was Theophile relying on last night ?
Crews needs to continue the more patient approach he showed in May. he can be like Dottie’s little sister on those high fastballs. I know Jeff’s a big Daubach fan, maybe he can get through to him
Kit! She hit the one she needed!
The way things change with coaches efficiency year to year
Maybe some new guru would help anyone
Thanks Luke for the Mays photo. It’s almost always shown in black and white.
What’s not mentioned much is the center field wall was so much farther than most.
18th round pick Brad Lord is, incredibly, overmatching AA hitters again. Amazing!
Imagine Willie mays not hitting in cavernous Polo grounds and the coldest place in America in summer at night
Candlestick Park
I went to first night game wrapped in a sleeping bag
In the late 80 s ballpark coffee was very poor( keeping it clean )
Got to love Carlos Batista. 6 hits in the FCL and 3 of them homers. 11 BB and 25 K in 55 PA. 8SB.
NEw York minute Carlos
The kid @ UT on tv now at the plate resembles Howie Kendrick a bit
