FCL Nationals OFF DAY vs. FCL Cardinals, 10 a.m.
DSL Nationals Postponed @ DSL Cardinals, 10 a.m.

Worcester 7 Rochester 4
• Ward (L, 4-3) 1⅔ IP, 4H, 5R, 5ER, 3BB, 2K, 2HR, 2HBP
• LaSorsa 2IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 2K, 3-0 IR-S
• Dunn 2-3, BB
• Adams 2-4, R, HR, RBI

It was more Ric Flair than Lt. Dangle as the Woo Sox put a hurt on Thad Ward for five runs in the 1st en route to a 7-4 win over the Red Wings. Ward wobbled through another 2/3rds of an inning before Joe LaSorsa bailed him out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam. Rochester got solo HRs from Riley Adams and Erick Mejia and were gifted two runs in the 6th on an error and a passed ball.

Reading 6 Harrisburg 3
• Lord 6IP, 6H, 3R, 2ER, 3BB, 4K, HR, WP
• Powell (L, 1-3) ⅔ IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 2K
• House 3-4, R, BB, 2B(5), RBI, K
• Crews 1-2, R, 2BB, 2SB(11)

The Lord was good but Holden did not was not as Reading broke a 3-3 tie with two in 7th. Harrisburg got the tying runs on base with nobody out in the 8th but the last six batters all made outs, three by way of the K, to fall 6-3. Brad Lord went six innings for the seventh straight start, but gave up three runs on six hits including a two-run HR on a slider that didn’t slide enough. He walked three and struck out four. Holden Powell walked two and both came around to score on a pair of singles as he retired just two of six batters faced to lose for the third time. Brady House reached base four times on a walk, two singles, and a double while Dylan Crews singled, walked twice, and stole two bases to lead the Senators offense.

Wilmington 4 Hudson Valley 3
• Cornelio (W, 5-4) 7IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 4K
• Schultz (H, 1) 1⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K
• Cronin (SV, 2) ⅔ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 3-0 IR-S
• V. Peña 2-3, R, BB, SB
• Harris 0-1, 3BB

The Renegades got three in the 2nd but the Blue Rocks pitchers held the line as the offense muddled through for a 4-3 win. Riley Cornelio went seven full innings for the first time in his career, as allowed the aforementioned three runs on four hits and three walks for the quality-start win. Thomas Schultz rain into trouble in the 9th after a scoreless 8th. With the bases loaded and one out, Matt Cronin struck out both batters faced to earn the save. Viandel Peña and Terone Harris both reached base three times, going 2-4 with four walks combined. Wilmington collected six hits total, with one (1) coming in 14 RISP chances. For those wondering, Phillip Glasser left the game after taking a fastball to the right forearm.

Kannapolis 6 Fredericksburg 2
• Susana 5IP, 2H, 0R, 3BB, 9K
• K. Rodriguez (L, 2-1) ⅓ IP, 4H, 6R, 6ER, 2BB, 0K
• Arguelles 1⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K, 2-2 IR-S
• Pimentel 2-4, R, 2K
• Infante 1-3, R, BB, 2B

Jarlin Susana shut out the top offense (5.81 R/G) in the Carolina League for five innings while striking out nine. But Kannapolis simply got its six runs off two relievers in the 6th as Fredericksburg dropped its sixth straight, 6-2. Kevin Rodriguez retired just one of seven batters faced and was charged with all six Cannon Ballers runs on four hits and two walks, with an “assist” from Anthony Arguelles who let in both inherited runners. Kannapolis also has the top pitching staff (3.34 R/G) so it’s no surprise the FredNats were only able to scratch two runs from five hits while striking out 13 times.

FCL Nationals – OFF DAY
Today, the F-Nats will battle the F-Cards for fourth place in the FCL East.

DSL Mets Orange vs. DSL Nationals – PPD
The DSL Nationals were rained out. It’s not clear when or if the game will be made up.

That’s back to back dominant starts for Susana. Fingers crossed that the switch has flipped and that he’s turning into what we’ve hoped he would be. He’s only a month older than Sykora, who we think of as the new young thing.

On the flip side, when can we move Ward, Rutledge, and Adon to the bullpen? I realize that someone has to start the games, but these guys need to be given a chance to succeed . . . as relievers.

Good to see a strong game from House, only his second multi-hit game since 5/12. Here’s hoping that he can get things going again.

Hassell III sitting out for the second straight game after a rain-out is a little concerning.

    Cronin comes through again

agree on Ward and maybe Anon but Rutledge does not seem to be made for high leverage situations at this point. plus he still has options and starters are much harder to find.

A big picture question: Nats are desperate for hitting. Without rushing the (hopefully) future stars, is there anybody at all you would bring up? I scour the lineups too and I don’t really see a whole lot. But a shake up is needed, and you would think the Nats would want to do a little something. The relief core is a little thin, so you could add maybe a couple there to the Nats. Which ones? Who comes up to solve the Corbin problem? Lord knows, but should he go to AAA first? Lord is age-ready.

Millas for Riley notwithstanding, changing anything on the MLB roster is not a priority for me. they are on pace to win 70-75 games despite a tough/mostly road schedule. keep the prospects in their proper place and since the AAAA’s aren’t exactly lighting it up, why bother.

Brad Lord’s outing caused his ERA to skyrocket 1.75.

Why is Matt Cronin at High A? His ERA is 0.73!
