Rochester Red Wings, 15-14, 4th Place I.L. East, 6½ GB
The Red Wings fell three games further back of the streaking RailRiders, winners of six straight last week. The two teams play this week in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, with day games tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday.
Harrisburg Senators, 15-11, 2nd place E.L. Southwest, 2½ GB
Harrisburg moved up from 5th place to 2nd place by taking five of six from Altoona but only gained a ½ game in the standings. This week, it’s the long haul to Manchester, NH to play the Fisher Cats for six with a late-morning start tomorrow.
Wilmington Blue Rocks, 15-10, 2nd place Sally Lg. North, ½ GB
The Blue Rocks head to the Jersey Shore for the first of four series against the BlueClaws with a matinee tomorrow, a late-afternoon start on Saturday, and a day game on Sunday.

FCL Mets 4 FCL Nationals 3
• C. Sanchez 1⅔ IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 1K, HR
• Luis 3⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• D. Perez (L, 0-1) 1IP, 2H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 1K
• G. Diaz 1-3, 2B, RBI
• Acevedo 1-2, BB, 2SB
The F-Nats were unable to deliver the clutch hit, going 1-for-10 with RISP including two missed chances in the 7th to drop the season opener to the F-Mets, 4-3. Starter Camilo Sanchez gave up the first three runs on three hits (one HR) and three walks over an inning and 2/3rds. The loss went to Doimil Perez on two singles in the bottom of the 6th with an “assist” from a throwing error that somehow did not render the run unearned despite the the game-winning hit not leaving the infield. Geraldi Diaz collected a double and an RBI while Andy Acevedo singled, walked, and stole two bases to lead the FCL Nationals’ offense. Roster moves: C Geraldi Diaz reassigned from Wilmington for MiLB rehab.
I was having a look at the FCL Nats’ roster, and it’s going to be bleak until the draft reinforcements arrive. You basically have a combination of the worst players from the ’23 FCL Nats and a motley assortment of players from the abominable ’23 DSL Nats. Just look at the 2023 ERAs of their pitching staff:
Colon: 11.57
Farias: 7.07
Luis: 5.59
Ogando: 10.13
Perez: 4.45
Portorreal: 4.79
Ramirez: 3.26
Roman: 3.20
Sanchez: 7.92
The hitters aren’t much better. It’s again a bunch of guys repeating the FCL who typically weren’t good enough to merit a promotion to Fredericksburg (only 5 of 17 bats came from last year’s DSL team). Think it’s going to be a very long couple months. But at least for guys like Acevedo, there’s no where to go but up!
Corrected. it was not catcher Geraldi Diaz who did the passball and throwing error, it was catcher Heider Rosario who entered to catching in 5 th inning, Diaz was switch to 1B. PS: i was watching the game in the complex.
Got it and thanks. Weird they’d fix that but not change the 6th inning run from earned to unearned.
good test for the Wings tonight vs one of the NYY’s top pitching prospects. he is a bit homer prone so let’s see if the boys can take him deep.
five of the seven FCL games yesterday were contested over 7 innings, are we expecting this to continue?
Nats DFA Matt Barnes with Robert Garcia activated. Barnes pitched well at Rochester. Not so much with the Nats, but he was better than Tanner Rainey.
Matt Barnes never pitched at Rochester. Jacob Barnes did, however, and has continued to pitch well in DC since being called up.
Michael Dominguez tough customer .
