Wilmington fell to .500 with their fifth straight loss, 4-1 to Jersey Shore. Rodney Theophile was unable to notch his 6th career quality start, but five innings of one-run ball on four hits and two walks wasn’t too shabby. Luke you used one of my favorite sayings on Theophile – not too shabby
Can Hanrahan teach Cuevas a new wipe out pitch ??
For anyone who’d love to meet and Wiley Coyote away the time at a Sens game on the 18 th ( barring rain or a Crash Davis prank of turning on the field watering system ) I’ll be there on the 18 th to see the Kids take on the young Tigers .
You know some org will benefit from Blakenhorn getting squeezed out by the outfield kiddie corp .
I wonder if Delino flashes baxk to the days of Marquis , Moises18, Larry33 , Cliff Floyd and Rondell White on the farm ..
Seeing Millas’s 5 RBIs reminds me, why is he at AAA again. The Nats have 3 major league catchers and Millas is by far the best defensively. Ruiz is the worst defensively and his OPS is .410!
At this point the only reason Ruiz is not in Rochester is the supposed fear that he and his contract would be claimed.
I am with you regarding Millas!
I’m hoping the Nats medical team just happens to “discover” a minor injury Ruiz has been carrying that requires a stint in Florida to work on his mechanics.
Ruiz’s game was bad enough last year when he could hit but not field. But now with the bat equally bad, it’s hard to know what to do with him. He’s out of options, so a demotion won’t work, and unfortunately a DFA isn’t in the cards either.
I think unfortunately Adams will take the fall, but a simpler solution would be to just admit it didn’t work out and DFA Nunez, and then carry 3 catchers. Nunez’s 9th inning pinch runs aren’t helping anyone, and Vargas is a more capable back up SS anyway. It’s not ideal, but unfortunately Ruiz kind-of puts the team in a bind.
Wood now has a 172 wRC+. That’s the 3rd best among all batters in the International League, and 15th best among some nearly 700 minor leaguers with at least 100 PA.
Wood isn’t just hitting “well”, he’s been one of the best hitters in the minors. I wonder if Rosario’s mini hot streak has bought him another week or so in the minors, but the arguments to keep him down become increasingly tenuous.
