• Gallo 0-2, R, 3BB

The Red Wings tied the game on a bases-loaded walk in the 7th but the RailRiders answered with two runs that turned out to be the difference as they took the game, 6-4, and the series, 4-2. Spenser Watkins made his sixth start and went five-plus innings, leaving after his third walk and four runs let in on seven hits. He struck out four. The loss went to Luis Reyes with an “assist” from Tim Cate who came on in the 7th with one out and allowed a two-out, two-run single. Drew Millas singled, doubled, and drove in a run while Joey Gallo drew three walks and scored one run to lead the Rochester offense.

Harrisburg 5 New Hampshire 3
• Alvarez 5⅔ IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 8K,
• Walters (W, 2-0) 1⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 1K, HBP, 1-0 IR-S

• Crews 1-3, 2R, BB, SB(5)

Harrisburg lost an early 2-1 lead with single runs in the 6th and 7th but Cortland Lawson capped off a three-run 8th with a two-run double to put the Sens up 5-3. Nash Walters stranded one in the 7th and wobbled through 8th to earn his second win while Orlandao Riblata set the side down in order in the 9th, striking out the last two batters for the save, his second. Lawson also singled and stole a base; Brady House drove in two with an RBI single and his 7th HR; Dylan Crews singled, walked, and stole his fifth base. Robert Hassell’s on-base streak ended at 24 games with an 0-for-5 afternoon.

Jersey Shore 4 Wilmington 1
• Cáceres (L, 0-3) 4IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 2K
• Huff 2IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 0K, E
• V. Peña 1-4, RBI, E
• Thomas 1-2, R, HBP CS

The Blue Rocks were 0-for-Jersey as the BlueClaws completed the six-game sweep with a 4-1 victory in the series finale. Bryan Cáceres lost for the third time in seven starts, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two. Viandel Peña drove in Johnathan Thomas for the lone Wilmington run, as the Blue Rocks were held to two doubles and three singles and a pair of Paul Witt walks. It was the 15th time the Blue Rocks scored less than three runs. Roster moves: There is chatter on the Twitters that RHP Andry Lara will be promoted from Wilmington….

Charleston 6 Fredericksburg 3
• Sthele (L, 0-3) 3⅔ IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 3BB, 4K
• K. Rodriguez 2⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 0K, 1-0 IR-S
• Green 2-4, R, 2B, HR, 2RBI, 0K
• De La Rosa 1-3

Charleston posted a picket fence in the first three innings, then put up three in the 7th to take a 6-1 lead. Elijah Green homered in the 9th to cut the lead to 6-3, but Fredericksburg could get no closer as they dropped the finale but took the series, 6-3. Travis Sthele started for the sixth straight Sunday and lost for the third time, letting in three runs on six hits and three walks over three and 2/3rds innings. He struck out four. Green also doubled as did Jeremy De La Rosa, who extended his hit streak to five games. Roster moves: …with RHP Jose Atencio moving up I-95 to take Lara’s place on the Blue Rocks roster.

FCL Nationals, 1-4, FCL East, 3½ GB
The F-Nats won just once in Week 1, which is no surprise with the worst pitching in the league (7.4 R/G) and the second-worst offense (2.6 R/G). This week, it’s two trips to Port St. Lucie on Monday and Friday, home games on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a “road” game against the Astros on Saturday.

I’ve been traveling for the last several weeks. Catch me up on the studs and the duds. Sounds very promising with Lara. He’s one of the few (healthy) pitchers in the organization with supposed higher-tier talent.

two returning after injury absences, Cronin and De La Rosa fared very well and looked healthy.

Ribalta looking very sharp and ready for AAA (?)

Lile and Made continuing their solid starts in the Sally League, well above league averages

most of the younger prospects struggling at each level, Wood not included of course

      welcome back

Thanks. In a quick glance at the numbers, it also seems that Hassell has really stabilized his game. Still not huge power, but there’s a lot of value in being able to get on base at a .400 clip.

      Yes KW Lara joins Alvarez
We are still awaiting a healthy Aggie Dustin Saenz who is a mystery to his length of absence to some of us .
Just a lot of pitchers maxxing
Out at 4-5 IP then the bullpens finish the 9 IP
Awaiting to see how JDR and Lile
Rise up the chain once the promotions upper tier happen .
Meanwhile some of us follow Chase Burns at Wake Forest .

Elijah Green has upped his game from get-him-outa-here to hopeless. He seems to be doing maybe a little something lately. The kid is just 20 and won’t turn 21 until December. He didn’t even strike out once yesterday! I realize I am reaching for some optimism, but does anybody see something in the distant future for this overall number five draft pick for the Nats?

    1. KW says:
      May 13, 2024 at 10:21 am

The Nats really have no choice but to ride things out with Green (and Vaquero). With Wood and Crews farther up the food chain, there’s no immediate pressure or need for OF success in the short term. Green still has outstanding exit velocity, but the K numbers truly are insane. As strong as he is, he shouldn’t have to (over-) swing so hard.

    2. Chris says:
      May 13, 2024 at 11:26 am

Grant Paulsen tweeted out that Green’s homer yesterday was the second hardest hit ball in ALL of the minor leagues this season. Little snippets like that are why you don’t give up on the kid any time soon. If it clicks (BIG IF), his ceiling is crazy high.

      1. Pilchard says:
        May 13, 2024 at 11:58 am

Green also can run. He has 12 SBs, despite not getting on base that often.

Realize baseball is littered with great athletes who just can’t make consistent contact, but man, Green’s other tools will give him extra time to figure it out. Rooting for him, but he has such a long way to go to fix his swing and miss issues.
