Lehigh Valley 5 Rochester 2 (10 inn.)
• Watkins 5IP, 7H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 6K, 2HR,
• LaSorsa 2⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, 2-0 IR-S
• R. Garcia 2BF, 1H, 3R, 2ER, IBB, 0K, HR
• Baker 2-4, R, 2B(5)
• Blankenhorn 1-3, BB, 2B, 2RBI
Travis Blankenhorn delivered a two-run double in the top of the 1st to give Rochester a 2-0 lead. That would be it for the Red Wings, though they managed to force extras where Lehigh Valley’s Weston Wilson blasted a three-run HR after Rico Garcia intentionally walked David Dahl. Daren Baker also doubled and singled as the Red Wings were held to six hits total. Sorry, kids: James Wood leaving in the middle of the game is reportedly due to “lower body soreness,” which has later been reported as hamstring tightness and appears to have happened during this play.
Akron 3 Harrisburg 2 (10 inn.)
• Lara 6IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 8K, HR
• Sinclair 1IP, 0H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, K
• D. Garcia 2-3, 2R, BB, 2B(5), HR, RBI
• Cluff 2-4, 2-2B, RBI
Cody Wilson tried to score from second on a ground ball hit in front of him with two out in the bottom of the 10th and was thrown out at the plate to end the game, which the Sens lost, 3-2. The baserunning gaffe made a loser out of Jack Sinclair, who let in the free runner in the top of the 10th without giving up a hit. Robert Hassell, who hit the ball in front of Wilson, was given a single on the play, which was just the second hit in 12 RISP chances. Dérmis Garcia homered, doubled, and scored both runs while Jackson Cluff doubled twice, driving in Garcia in the 5th. That took Andry Lara off the hook despite turning in another quality start.
Rome 2 Wilmington 1
• Atencio (L, 0-1) 5IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 6K, HR, BK
• C. Romero 2IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Peña 1-4, 2B, SB
• 3 LOB
Jose Atencio gave up a two-run HR in the bottom of the 1st and his teammates made that stand up with one run on one hit for a 2-1 Wilmington loss to Rome. Atenctio gave up five hits total, walked two, and struck out six over five innings to get the loss. Carlos Romero added two goose eggs and Matt Cronin one. Viandel Peña doubled in the 1st to break up the no-hitter while Kevin Made was hit by pitch, took third on an errant pickoff throw, and scored on a groundout to end the shutout bid.
Fredericksburg 7 Lynchburg 3
• Sykora 3IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 5K, HBP, WP
• Hall (W, 4-0) 2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Ochoa 3-4, R, 2B, HR, 4RBI
• Cooper 2-4, R, BB, 2-2B
• Cox 0-1, 3R, 3BB, RBI, SB(10)
The FredNats stuck to the season script, as the offense scored six unanaswered runs while the bullpen gave up just one run over the last six innings in a 7-3 win over the Hillcats. Travis Sykora needed 65 pitches to get nine outs as Lynchburg stung him for two runs on four hits and two walks. He struck out five and hit a batter. Bubba Hall won his fourth game with two perfect innings and four whiffs. Nate Ochoa singled, doubled, homered, and drove in four while Everett Cooper doubled twice, walked once, and scored a run to pace the Fredericksburg offense.
FCL Cardinals 9 FCL Nationals 1
• Portorreal (L, 0-2) 3IP, 9H, 6R, 4ER, 2BB, 2K, HR, PO @ 1B
• Luis 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K, HBP, WP
• W. Diaz 2-4, 2E
• C. Batista 1-3, R, HR, RBI
The FCL Nationals reverted to the mean as the FCL Cardinals ended the F-Nats’ three-game winning streak with a 9-1 smackdown. Leuris Portorreal was knocked for six runs on nine hits over three innings to lose his second straight start. Reilin Ramirez was only slightly less ineffective, giving up two runs over the next three to put the game away. Carlos Batista ended the shutout bid with a solo HR as the F-Nats managed just five hits total, with Winder Diaz leading the hit column with two singles.
5-6-5-3-3
Starters IP logged .lol
Atencio is getting more challenged and showing the A+ hitter a little more respect but still looks fearless out there. hit 94 a few times including in his last inning, albeit the fifth. something tells me Livan Hernandez likes watching this kid pitch
The Greek chorus here is cheering with the beginning of the trimming of the bullpen fodder with Nogosek
Nogo like what the Car Nova means in Spanish
Congrats to Cluff heading to Rochester!!
Is Dermis Garcia starting to get interesting? Not really, but compare him to to the $5 million man. If he gets to the majors, he will likely out hit Joey Gallo in batting average. (Anyone can do that.) Dermis will never have much of a batting average, but his power numbers could be OK and better than what we’ve seen from Gallo. On Baseball Reference, Dermis has a 0.0 dWAR, so maybe he is adequate there, compared to Meneses. Garcia is 26 so he is no prospect, but does anybody see anything here? The cupboard is bare for the Nats at 1B throughout the system.
Don’t forget about Morales. He’s played 26 games at 1B this year for Harrisburg and is ranked inside a couple of top 100 prospect lists. He’s definitely the future at 1B for the Nats.
I’d also think Juan Yepez is ahead of Garcia in the pecking order at 1B.
I agree on YoYo as probably the best future 1B possibility in the system. He doesn’t have much competition at that position, best I can see. I expect YoYo to rev up his hitting over time. He is still 22 and learning the bag. Short term, why do you see Yepez as more of a possibility for call-up as a Gallo replacement? I can be persuaded to go there, but I look at Yepez’s dWar on Baseball Reference and it’s way too negative in his limited MLB play. (I don’t know where to find minor league stats on dWar or even good scouting on defense aside from draft day reporting.) Has anyone seen both these guys play 1B? I haven’t. I’m not expecting much out of either one, but at least Dermis Garcia can play a little 1B apparently. Both have pretty good power numbers.

I’m going to come to Cody Wilson’s defense. There were two outs and the shortstop made a diving stop in the hole. He was running hard and the 3rd base coach waved him home. Akron made two nice throws to get him on a close play at home plate.
evidently the instructions are run, run and run some more. Ochoa Leyva was tagged out going first to third on a swinging bunt that the third baseman was never going to throw.
I thought he beat might’ve beat the throw but MiLB.tv only had the one angle, which didn’t show the third base coach and Terry said he couldn’t see if we waved him in or not.
Is the jury out on TJ White at first base or are we awaiting some player changes at A plus for him to settle back at 1b?
Y’all know Andry Lara. He is 21 and won’t be 22 until early 2025, and already doing well at AA. He weighs just 180 for a 6’4″ guy, so he will get stronger. What else do we know?
Scouting Report from Baseball America: Lara has a smooth delivery and an all-around athletic operation on the mound, but he needs to continue adding strength to his frame to sustain his mid-90s velocity throughout outings. His fastball sits around 94 mph and has touched 98, while both his secondaries need more refinement and consistency.
The Nats listed Lara at 180 when he was in Fredericksburg and trust me, he was closer to 280 than he was to 180. Not sure what he weighs now but being in better shape could have a lot to do with his development.
Andry Lara just might be having the best season in the farm system besides Wood. I know it’s only been 2 months but this is a serious break out performance so far.
Lara has a personal dietician over seeing him ?
if you’re a 24 yr old undrafted pitcher in Low A you better do something special. Bubba Hall is making his case, 21IP, 28K, 1BB and a .120 BA against. he’s got one of those Parker-like fastballs, low 90’s but spinning.
Dermis becomes Delinos favorite with Yo- yo on DL
I once weighed 180 pounds lol
Fred living off great bullpen work . Even from the guy whose career seemed over just yesterday .
Maybe Wood should try yoga for his lower foundation .?
Lara was impressive again last night. He also shows a competitive fire when he’s pitching. Dermis Garcia has hit some long homers. Every ball hit to him at first base is an adventure. He will make a great stop one play and the next he boots a routine grounder.
Ribalta with his 4th game in 6 days. if anything is a precursor to a promotion for a reliever it seems to be more heavy usage. he continues to put up good pitching lines as well
