Rochester Red Wings, 6-6, T5th place I.L. East, 3GB
Rochester returns home after a series split in Buffalo to host Toledo for six with a matinee on Wednesday. How the Red Wings rotation will be juggled after LHP Mitchell Parker’s recall to Washington remains to be seen. Parker tossed five innings of two-run ball in Los Angeles last night, becoming the first rookie pitcher to win his debut some some nobody named Stephen Strasburg (was he any good?)
Roster moves: IF Trey Lipscomb optioned from Washington; LHP Mitchell Parker, C Drew Millas recalled to Washington.
Harrisburg Senators, 3-5, 6th place E.L. Southwest, 2GB
The Senators have finally started to hit. Unfortunately, the pitching has fallen to the middle of the pack in the Eastern League. This week the Flying Squirrels come to City Isle for six with five night games and a Sunday afternoon tilt.
Wilmington Blue Rocks, 6-3, T1st place Sally Lg. North, ½ GA
Wilmington is in first place despite having given up more runs than it has scored, skewed by the small sample size and a 10-4 loss on Sunday. This week, the Greenville Drive visit from South Carolina for the first of two series this season between the two teams.
Roster moves: OF Elijah Nunez placed on the 7-Day I.L. (as of 4/13).
Fredericksburg Nationals, 6-3, 2nd place C.L. North, 2GB
Fredericksburg came back down to earth with a series split in Lynchburg, unable to consistently outhit its poor pitching and shoddy defense before tightening up both over the weekend. This week, it’s the one and only series against Fayettville.
Per Mark Zuckerman, there have been 17 rookie debut pitching performances that were winless before Mitchell Parker. With ZERO walks! Way to go young man.
Definitely deserving of another start.
Was the last guy Strasburg?
So much for reading comprehension…
what a night for Mitchell Parker!! congrats young man
Parker pens solid 5 perhaps setting the trend for the farm affiliates starters .
Rodney T be a model T tonight !
Incredible start from Parker! He did rein in the walks and it all came together so much better than I’d have hoped. It’s so, so, so much more enjoyable seeing “our” guys go out there rather than Spenser Watkins or whoever. Even though Lipscomb faded with more playing time, I’m so much more encouraged, because while he might not be ready yet, he showed all the signs that there’s a potential big leaguer in him, same for Young and Millas.
This year has always been another year of rebuilding and keeping the talent in the farm being given new challenges and rising through it. So far, the front office has been doing a great job, but with quite a handful of players with four digit OPSes, it’ll be interesting to see when the carousel engine revs up, particularly below the Rochester-Washington shuttle level.
Good to see Millas get a quick recall, and Adams pick up exactly where he left off last year. Anyone know what’s up with Ruiz? It was reported he was battling the flu, but the flu doesn’t usually require a trip to the IL…
Yes, it was influenza for Ruiz.
