The Good the Bad and the Ugly as I leave Monterey / Carmel by the Sea ( not Indiana today ) Clint film unforgettable
Alvarez brings smiles
Time to leave the amusement ride in Brooklyn . When the off speed pitches don’t spot it’s sure a ride for an evening and Pepto for the skipper .
Place your bets on time frame when Lile moves up to AA and JDL gets placed on affiliate roster from XST .
Evan Lee’s injury must really be a career ender.
A 15th round draft pick in 2018 Lee appeared in 4 games in the show in 2022 with 8.2 innings to his career. At least he’ll be able to regale his grandchildren about being a big
league player.
Very surprised at Lee release in the macro sense of it, given that he’s a former 40-man guy. But his results this year were staggeringly bad: 1 1/3rd innings across 3 appearances, 5 hits, 7 walks. It’s a shame for sure.
Also, poof we lose two starters from the Low-A rotation to “season ending” injury just like that. There’s now seven guys on the Low-A 60-day DL, all arms. Four starters, all of whom had shown some promise. This is how you end up with a dearth of starting pitching depth in a system.
Brutal news about Sullivan and Agostini. Sullivan clearly has something special, striking out 14.7 batters per 9IP. I hope he’ll get a chance to actually show that off, (I’m presuming he’s gone down with TJ?). Agostini is still very young. Somehow not 20 yet, so time is still on his side, but that’s terrible news for him too.
In the macaroni sense of it all , Todd, ( lol) we should be smiling at Luckham and Young progressing while Big Round Rock joins Oh Susana ! On Fred for Fred MD observation .
Maybe the Nats should have special sage in West palm beach when a new pitching prospect after signing reports for “ in – doc “. Sage to ward off negative Tommy John vibes .
Alvarez either likes pitching against Erie or he likes pitching to Pineda. In those two games 10 IP, 3H, 0R, 5BB, 13K. Against the other EL clubs with Vega/Suggs
6.2IP, 10H, 8R, 7BB, 5K.
or of course, that’s just baseball and this will all even itself out. hopefully in the direction of the former.
I hope this is just a minor blip, but it’s disappointing to see Marlon Perez struggle in Wilmington. He proved last season he was more than ready for AA, and yet for whatever odd reason he was forced to repeat the level, and now finds himself getting regularly roughed up… After never struggling with command, it’s suddenly a big issues (11 BB in 9IP this season). The pessimist in me suggests he’s concealing/coping with an injury. But the season is still young, it’s just too bad it’s not looking like a very quick promotion is in store…
Finally, someone picked up on Crews’ absence:
“Dylan Crews hasn’t played for Harrisburg since Wednesday, but I’m told he’s fine. Had a minor issue that kept him out a few days last week, but he was held out of the lineup tonight as a precaution because of rainy weather.”
Consider me skeptical. How “fine” is a player who can’t be trusted to play in cold (yesterday) or wet (Tuesday) weather? Think it’s more than a minor injury, and I won’t be surprised if whatever strained muscle or whatever rears its head again.
Yet another example of how the commentariat here is better informed than the guys actually paid money to cover these things.
10 batters appeared for Wilmington yesterday. 7 of them are hitting below the Mendoza Line.
If only there were some hitters in Fredericksburg who could help!
I get this but with six hitters age 20 or younger keeping the Glasser, Pimental etals around means the games will be competitive. in general this will help in development of the younger players IMO. tough for the older guys but the world needs Crash Davis types too.
How many fans are doing the happy dance with Big Round Rock Travis gun slinging into Fred
Adios Evan Lee. Ironic . Two lefty Lees out of Arkansas in one adult lifetime .
Alas ! Another reminder that the rebuild has a few more years to add depth and width to create a stronger upward flow of talent .
