Second game in a row the bats did their part, but were unable to deliver the crushing blow. 10 LOB, and 15 LOB on Saturday. It’s a good sign, the hits with RISP will hopefully follow.
Are the Mets pitchers throwing around Wood? That’s now 5 BB in his past 2 games. Hope it’s just general control issues (which it seems as evidenced by the 18!! walks conceded over the past 2 games) rather than a Barry Bonds approach, and just not giving him any pitches in the zone to mash.
I also really like that the Nats are encouraging steals. Baker already has 4 SBs in 2 games, after never stealing more than 21 in a season.
Really good outing from Rutledge, after getting lit up against the Nats last outing.
Also, how about Trey Lipscomb? He’s already looking every part the big leaguer, both with the glove and bat. Happy to ride the highs now, because there will definitely be lows that follow. But it sure would be nice to have more prospects with potential in the majors.
Also, don’t overlook the other “prospect” on the roster, Jake Irvin, who still plugging away with solid results. Another valuable, if unexceptional, role player, which is a lot more interesting to me than whatever you would use to describe Corbin and Williams.
Nick Senzel = Wally Pipp
Go Trey!
Good to see a nice bounceback start from Rutledge after such a brutal end to his spring.
3 games in, so SSS, but interesting how AAA has deployed the combination of players they have who can play 2B and 3B in particular.
– Alu: on 40-man: started one game at each of 3B, 2B, LF.
– Baker: 2B only, fast riser, not on 40-man: 2 starts at 2B
– Kieboom: 3B only, exiled off 40-man: 1 start at 3B opening day, sat the rest of the weekend (did he get hurt going 2-4 on Friday?)
– Dunn, who was a 3B primarily before, started all 3 games at SS over Mejia (and Barley, who was in AAA to end last season but who is now back in AA).
– Mejia: got one start at 3B Saturday but listed as SS.
It seems like the team wants/needs to play Alu, Baker & Kieboom regularly. But there’s only 2 infield spots for them.
It’s also telling that Lipscomb surged past all of them, even with Kieboom and Alu having MLB experience at 3B.
The AA, A+, and A rosters have been posted. I assume that Luke will review them at some point.
Let’s see how Luke Young and Riley Cornelio fare in the Grand Canyon .
