Mitchell Parker Born: 9/27/99 Ht. 6’4″ Wt. 225 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Parker improved his walk rate from 6.0 to 4.3 at AA, but reverted to form in a brief stint at AAA. He was added to the 40-man, which isn’t necessarily much more than Rule 5 Draft protection. The CW is that he could be a No. 5 starter *if* he can tighten up on the walks and get more feel on the slider and change. Given his dexterity, he’ll more than likely get to work on that at AAA in 2024.
DJ Herz Born: 1/4/01 Ht. 6’2″ Wt. 175 Bats: R Throws: L Career Stats |
Herz’s progression tracks much like Parker’s, except that the trouble with the walks was right there from the start and prolly made it easier for Chicago to deal him to Washington. He pitched better with Harrisburg, though his walk rate only declined slightly. The secret to his sick K rate (13.2/9IP) is MLB-calibre changeup, which makes his low-90s FB play up.
Andrew Alvarez Born: 6/13/99 Ht. 6’3″ Wt. 215 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Alvarez worked almost exclusively as a starter and dominated at High-A (2.61/3.42/1.16), though he was repeating the level and old for it. As of virtual press in early February 2024, he’s unranked by both BA and MLB. Both his K rate and his groundball rate fell from 2022 to 2023, but with better defenders behind him, he gave up fewer hits. Likely to return to AA in ’24.
Dustin Saenz Born: 6/2/99 Ht. 5’11” Wt. 197 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Saenz bounced back from a rough finish in ’22 at A+ and dominated Sally Lg. hitters in April and May, which earned him a bump to AA. In June and July, he was bitch-slapped for 24 runs on 46 hits over 36IP, with barely more K’s (20) than BB’s (15). Then he adjusted back for a line of 2.72/3.70/0.95 over his last 8GS. Still, it’s prolly a coinflip as to where he starts and what role he has in ’24.
Marlon Perez Born: 3/16/00 Ht. 5’10” Wt. 180 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
After a solid ’22 in Low-A, Perez actually improved in ’23. He lowered his ERA from 3.46 to 2.97, his FIP from 3.37 to 3.32, and his BB/9 from 2.8 to 2.7 while increasing his K rate from 10.2 to 11.4 while appearing in more games (36 vs. 28) and throwing more innings. Perez appeared in multiple innings 26 times, with eight outings of three or more innings.
Gabriel Agostini Born: 7/24/04 Ht. 6′ Wt. 160 Bats: L Throws: L Career Stats |
Agostini regressed from ’22 to ’23 by nearly every appreciable measure. He was nevertheless one of the best pitchers on a horrible FCL team, which, along with his handedness and DOB, keeps him on the watchlist. The Nats thought enough of him to give him a taste of Low-A, where he made one appearance. |
