Rochester was unable to put up a goose egg when it mattered most, giving up single runs in the 8th, 9th, and 10th innings to turn a 6-4 lead into a 7-6 loss. Cory Abbott was knocked from the box in the 4th, charged with three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two. The loss went to Junior Fernández, who gave up leadoff single that moved up the free runner to 3rd, then, after a strikeout, gave up a deep flyball for the game-winning SF. Four of the six Red Wings runs scored via the longball as Jordy Barley delivered an Earl Weaver Special in the 2nd and Erick Mejia tied the game with a solo shot in the 6th. Mejia also singled and drew two walks while Onix Vega and Darren Baker also collected a pair of hits to lead Rochester’s ten-hit parade. Roster moves: LHP Tim Cate placed on the 3-Day T.I.L.; UT Paul Witt activated from the Development List.

Andrew Alvarez turned in his first quality start at AA (seventh overall) with all three runs on a home run (two hits total) over seven innings. He walked two and struck out four. Patrick Ruotolo gave up a two-out, two-run HR in the 8th to get the blown-save-loss. James Wood reached base three times with a single, walk, and a double while J.T. Arruda did the same with two safeties and a base-on-balls to pace the Harrisburg offense.

Dannel Díaz made the spot start in place of [insert pitcher with suspected injury here] and let in two runs on four hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out two and hit a batter while losing his fifth game. Andrew Pinckney accounted for the Wilmington run with his first pro HR while Kevin Made had two singles to lead the Blue Rocks’ hit column of six (6).

The FredNats took advantage of sloppy fielding and wild pitching to score five times in the 5th with just two singles as they took the opener from the Shorebirds, 5-4. Liam Sullivan needed 84 pitches to get 10 outs and let in two runs on four hits, two walks, and a Robles. The win went Kevin Rodriguez, who stranded one while finishing the 4th then gave up a run of his own in the 5th. Marquis Grissom Jr. notched his 10th save with a three-up, three-down 7th. The loss went to Thomas Schultz, who gave up three runs in the 5th for his second loss. Hmmmm Jefrom Leon 4 IP 5 Ks
We hear the curtain about to come down on this theatrical summer production .
Interesting starters taking bump tonight JR , Lara and Parker .
Well Nats got some mileage out of Rodriguez and D Diaz two loogies who were winter time after thought minor league free agents especially after the arm injury to the kid signed free agent released by Indians / Guardians org .
Fred MD bird dog scouting review of pitching mechanics anticipated this morning .
Three cups of coffee this month who can top that ??
Lol
We are all starting to really dig Christian
V!!!
tough to get a read on Leon as Delmarva has no CF camera plenty of viewing to be had tonight however.
I could see this as Rutledge’s last AAA audition. as cautious as they’ve been with their minor league arms Gore, Gray and Irvin are nearing that time
You think Skipper Delino is licking his chops thinking of J Thomas table setting a future squad of his Sens??
Pinckney and Morales are thriving at Wilmington while Crews is struggling mightily at Harrisburg. I guess you shouldn’t Rhinehart the #2 overall pick.
Meanwhile, the #5 overall pick from 2022 struck out three more times. Sigh.
On a much better note, House is hitting .296 at AA at age 20, which is impressive.
while concern is justified for Green’s future, I’m not concerned in the least on Crews. that plate discipline and bat speed is not a mirage.
I agree on Crews. His plate discipline and consistent contact at LSU were phenomenal. He’ll be fine. But he’s really being tested right now, perhaps humbled a bit. Maybe that’s something the front office wanted?
Lack of power fom House is somewhat concerning. Does anyone know his defensive chops? Yohandy Morales shows more power potential as a 3rd baseman. Not sure of his defense.
Keith Law still talks about a ball that House crushed in Wilmington. I don’t think anyone doubts the power will come. It just takes time. Wood is about nine months older than House and just came into his power this season.
Law was talking a month ago about what an extreme pitcher’s park Wilmington is and he said only 2 hitters he’s seen make that park small; James Wood and Brady House.
I have seen several fine plays from Morales. House always looked a little stiff but better at third. one of those things that will work themselves out
Thank You for the observation on the defensive “side”, sometimes we only focus on the offense.
Fred MD JR may get a call to Nats before curtain falls on MLB regular season .
I get tired just think about the intensity of Dylan Crews high leverage baseball played between NCAA championship long campaign and now pro ball adjustment with major ascension .
FredMD add a question mark to my statement to you about JR
119 IP even with numerous clunker starts of less than 5 IP or just the Subway special : $5 foot long .
On that note of young arms . I was so busy I didn’t notice Adons outing back the Mets . Good to see Adon getting even more Big Club time acclimated .
House has looked good at 3B. He’s got a really strong arm also.
Per Brittany Ghiroli in the Athletic, the Nats are blowing out their scouting department:
Special assistants Willie Fraser, Jeff Harris, John Mirabelli, Jon Weil, Mike Pagliarulo and Matt Ruebel, as well as pro scouts Jeff Harris and Greg Hunter, crosschecker Alan Marr, international scouts Mike Cadahia, Alex Rodriguez, Jose Pepe Ortega and David Leer are among the names The Athletic has confirmed were shown the door. The Washington Post first reported the four international names.
Johnny DiPuglia resigned over the weekend.
That makes me happy
Maybe we can get someone that can recognize pitchers
I’m curious as to what actually happened with DiPuglia.
If there has been one saving grace in this terrible run of poor drafting and development it’s been the international signings.
I know even that has hit the skids lately but they’ve signed guys that were always considered near the top of their class, so I kinda think it has to do more with player development not doing its job than poor scouting by DiPuglia
I’m so curious who the next hire will be.
But the more important question is why Kris Kline is still the scouting director- he should have been let go a long time ago
