Rochester vs. Syracuse – CNCLD
Heavy rain and thunderstorms ended this one after about a half hour’s wait. With both teams all but eliminated, the game will not be made up.
Altoona 9 Harrisburg 3

The train came off the track in the 6th as the Curve scored seven times to break open a one-run game and cruised to a 9-3 win over the Senators in Game Three. Mitchell Parker turned in five innings of two-run ball on four hits, no walks, and three whiffs. Cole Henry retired just two of eight batters faced in his second appearance since emerging from witness protection, allowing six runs om five hits and a walk while striking out nada. Brady House singled, doubled, and drove in one while James Wood singled walked and scored a run to lead the Harrisburg offense.

The Blue Rocks loaded the bases with one out in the top of the 9th and Caleb Farmer unloaded them with a bases-clearing double to highlight a five-run 9th that spun the Cyclones for a 6-4 win. Andry Lara allowed two runs on two hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three while making his 23rd start. Holden Powell got the win but gave up a run in the 9th while Todd Peterson got the final two outs to earn his 9th save. Will Frizzell reached base three times with two singles and a walk while Andrew Pinckey did the same with a safety, a base-on-balls, and a two-run triple to pace the Wilmington offense.
Fredericksburg 6 Delmarva 5

Fredericksburg’s bullpen delivered six scoreless innings to enable the offense to come back from a 5-3 deficit and win, 6-5. Mikey Tepper struggled again as a starter, giving up all five Shorebirds run on six hits and two walks while striking out five. Johan Otanez walked two, struck out two, and hit a batter in his single inning pitched. He threw 23 pitches, 12 for strikes. Max Romero Jr. made him the winning pitcher with a two-run HR in the 5th. Elijah Green singled twice and struck out three times while Johnathan Thomas stole four bases to become the first Washington minor-leaguer to steal 60+ bases since Rafael Bautista swiped 69 in 2014.
Donovan Casey PITCHED the 7th inning. He retired all three batters. Altoona announcers said he pitched in college and had been doing bullpen work and this was the first chance to get him in.
Casey now on the bump
No joy in Mudville
5 by 5 starters go five
Go Jackson longer than 5
Play the song I’ll be there by Jackson 5 , Luke …
So who gets credit for finding Alu
As a scout
Pags or the east coast scouting head ?
And I missed the chance to remark that it’s never a good sign when the most effective reliever is a position player.
first Casey thought he was a hitter, now he thinks he’s a pitcher.
sorry, I know that’s not nice
Andrew Pinckney, who I had never heard of before the draft, has a .917 OPS at Wilmington. No telling what it would be at another stadium.
The suppression of Will Frizzell continues. Total mismanagement.
To be fair, Frizzell started the season in Harrisburg and looked completely overmatched. A .527 OPS over 71 AB. K’d 31 times, too.
Imagine if the Nats took high strikeout rates seriously for all their prospects.
Lara is consistent, durable and still only 20 pitching in A+. not getting as many strikeouts as you’d like to see and only throwing in the low 90’s but the league is below the Mendoza line against him since July 1. they have kept his pitch counts mostly below 75 but a quietly successful year for the kid.
Really Fred mD ? Go out on the limb 4 Lara saying
2024 breakout for Lara
Breakout by Thin Lizzy ..
Henry = oh no. Reasonably good lines for Parker and Lara. Parker seems like an increasingly good bet to be added to the 40-man before Rule 5.
House now at .303 at Harrisburg and .303 overall for the season. He may be the first of the big prospects to be MLB-ready. I would think that he’s a prime AFL candidate this fall.
House is the only prospect so far for the Sens that has looked like a prospect.
The consensus was that the Nats were too slow to promote, but now, several prospects who were promoted have hit a wall at Harrisburg. Offense has been stagnate.
It’s great when a prospect has a hot few weeks at a certain level, and it’s a OK to let that prospect thrive at a level for awhile.
A Jekyll and Hyde act for Henry over his past two outings. Not sure what to make of it…
my guess is TOS recovery. he had no command of his breaking pitches and they were waiting on his fastball. velocity was fine
Ascension in 2024 for guys like
Oh Henry Lara Luckham Young
Oh Lord
Maybe a couple lower level Latin arms ??
