Anthony Banda continues to start and continues to get pounded, letting in those first five runs on five hits and two walks over an inning and 2/3rds. The Red Wings did not score without the benefit of an error as they scored two unearned runs in the 2nd on two errors and another in the 9th and the Bulls’ third miscue. Mitchell Parker was strafed for 10 hits and four runs over four and a 1/3rd innings. He walked none and struck out six. FCL Nationals – OFF DAY
Still no word on who’s about to get sent home once the 2023 draft picks start filtering in. As noted in the comments, last year’s picks began playing during the second week of August, so it may be another week before we start seeing releases in the lower levels.
DSL Red Sox Red 12 DSL Nationals 4
• Portorreal (L, 1-3) 3IP, 7H, 5R, 5ER, 1BB, 2K, WP
• C. Martina 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 0K, HBP
• M. Cabrera 3-4, 3R, HR, RBI
• Y. Rivera 3-4, 3RBI
The D-Nats briefly led this one 1-0 before the D-RSR squad went to town on the D-Nats throwers, scoring in six straight “ups” for a 12-4 beatdown. Leuris Portorreal took his third loss while giving up the first five runs on seven hits and a walk over three innings. Manuel Cabrera and Yefri Rivera both went 3-for-4; the rest of the lineup went 3-for-25 with three walks.
Nash Walters sounds like an old Don Johnson show or a TNT gum shoe show.
Well with the draft picks being eventually assimilated through the complex
Late summer taking stock .
Pitching . Starters .
Start with Alvarez . Troop and his nine lives on and off the Developmental list .
Adon bordering on turning the corner and perhaps the same for Rodney Theophile
Dustin Suarez on the City Isle . An accomplishment . At least it’s not Tommy John shut down .
The college guys from last summer draft . Kyle Luckham , Chance Huff , and
One of our weekly follows : “ Oh Lord !”
Can’t forget Oh Susana or Oh Henry ( the pitcher not the writer . Speaking of writing or penning . Mitchell Parker who the jury is still 50/50 on .
Diving deeper into the farm . Off the top of the one cupped coffee brain : Zapata , Jefrom Leon , Gabe Marquez the lefty .
One needs to turn the page back to FSL/ DSL list to see who sticks out
This 23 draft ? The Texas Longhorn starter ? Hawkeye lefty ?? Time will tell and we will just have to listen to the Fred doctor the rest of the campaign ( Doobie Bros !)
One would be remiss not to mention the contribution of A Hernandez at Harrisburg .
Delino would nod yes on that for sure .
As the late Jon Miller used to say
Was Hassels HR majestic on Sunday ??
I’m consistently impressed with Parker’s inconsistency. He doesn’t just have good games followed by bad games, but extraordinarily good then bad outings. From 7 innings of one hit ball to 4 innings of ten hit ball… the guy can and does deliver the widest variance if performances one game to the next.
One positive to take from this season so far is that one of his consistent traits is his wildness, but that has each month this season trended downward. And while he was rocked yesterday, he didn’t walk a batter, a feat he hasn’t accomplished in a start in a whole year, and a feat he has only accomplished 6 times in 64 career starts.
I just assume Parker will either be traded, released or moved into a reliever role.
Though I assume that will all but a few of the pitchers in the MilB system.
Current Nats minor league hurlers I’m confident will be starters in the bigs: Rutledge, Bennett, Susana.
Theopile? Saenz? Parker? Lara?
Lefty relievers with funk ALWAYS find work, so Parker still has a chance for a long MLB career. Of course the Nats continue to insist that everyone is a starter.
That’s how relievers used to be developed. Get them as many IPs in the minors as possible and if they can’t crack an MLB roation, throw ’em in the ‘pen and, eventually, find out which ones have the stones to close. Lee Smith started 85 games in the minors, Rollie Fingers 76, Goose Gossage 43.
Camilo Doval, who currently leads the majors in saves? Zero minor league starts. Maybe Rizzo is just trying to show how old-school he really is. 😉
Should Wiley “ Coyote “ Peralta pitch tonight with the 6666 in his stats line score ? Lol
