The IronPigs smelted the Red Wings for four runs in both the 5th and 6th innings as they evened up the series with a 12-3 win. José Ureña took the brunt of the beating, allowing eight runs on nine hits (two HR) over five and a 1/3rd for his second AAA loss. Jake Alu extended his hit streak to five games with two singles and his fifth HR, which pushed his June BA to .398 (35-for-88 in 22G). Matt Adams also singled twice as Rochester pushed across three runs on seven hits and three walks.

Harrisburg rallied from deficits of 4-0 and 5-3 to tie in the 7th. James Wood put the Sens over the top with his 5th AA HR (13th overall) for the 6-5 win over Altoona. Dustin Saenz was dinged for all five Curve runs on nine hits, including two HRs, and one walk over five and 2/3rds. The 24-y.o. southpaw struck out five. Jack Sinclair got the “W” with two scoreless ininings, allowing a hit, a walk, and a Robles while fanning one. Trey Lipscomb also homered and went 2-for-4 like Wood, as did Terone Harris to power the Harrisburg offense.

The Blue Rocks put up crooked numbers in the 6th and 8th innings and held off the Renegades for a 4-1 win. Kyle Luckham fell one out short of a quality start, allowing the Hudson Valley run on three hits and two walks while striking out three as picked up his second win. Three relievers combined for three and 1/3rd scoreless innings, with Thomas Ruwe stranding the tying and go-ahead runs while geting the last out of the 6th and Todd Peterson matching the feat in the 8th, then working around a single in the 9th for his second save. Brady House singled twice, scored twice, and homered once as he drove in two to lead the Wilmington offense.

Four Fredericksburg pitchers combined to shut out Salem, 2-0 on three hits to stop a five-game slide. Erik Tolman went the first four and allowed the first hit while striking out two. Bubba Hall put on two baserunners over two innings to pick up the win, though the real heavy lifting came in the 9th when Marquis came on with one out and the bases loaded and struck out both batters he faced to get the save, his third. Armando Cruz homered in the 4th to break the 0-0 tie while Branden Boisserie drew three walks and scored ahead of Wilmer Perez’s fifth double in the 8th to account for the FredNats tallies.

The F-Nats scored in four straight “ups” to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 7-1 lead they snapped three-game slide with a 7-2 win. 21-y.o. Bryan Polanco pitckd up his first “W” with a run let in on one hit and two walks over five innings. He struck out three. Everett Cooper reached base three times with a walk and two singles while lineup bookends Cristhian Vaquero and Winder Diaz both went 2-for-4 with an RBI to pace the FCL Nationals offense.

  1. That James Wood home run was a monster. He hit it with all the authority in the world, and it took off into the smoky haze like a rocket, and the center fielder and right fielders both tracked it to the warning track and looked up to watch it go.

    The double steal (second and home) to tie the game was fun.

    Conditions — namely, the smoke — were odd. Everything was kinda orange, it would get really smoky at times, and things would become dull.

  2. nice night for Tolman, only one ball turned on as he came out 94-95 and finished up 91-93. lots of weak chopped ground balls. maybe overthrowing his slider early but mixed in some nice back door curves to a predominately right hand hitting lineup. a three time(!) TJ survivor, stay healthy young man.

      I recall the only safe refuge years and years ago when City Isle dealt with the cikatas ( misspelled ) was right above the bbq pit where the smoke would push them elsewhere

      We all dream about how day two of draft will result in NCAA talent who could still contribute to FRED in July and August making Fred MD more enthusiastic to head to the park with new tool sets to scout
      Now we have to say this Davey Martinez has been patient seeing his everyday talent jell into an interesting squad gathering interest from contenders on certain parts

    2. Did a deep dive on Skenes and lo and behold I find out him and Tolman grew up and played high school ball together (though Tolman a little older). Back then Tolman was a big prospect coming out of HS before all the arm injuries.

  3. while Alu was a nice story last year I don’t know you keep him down on the farm much longer. he may only see spot duty with the big club until the trade deadline but he’ll still get time to settle in. Hill and Chavis have both cooled off, DM liked him, make the call Mike!

    2. Since Alu’s demotion, he’s hit .359/.406/.531 (31 games).

      I really don’t understand how he’s still stuck in AAA, especially when you consider the current major league roster composition. It’s not just Chavis and Hill, who’ve been struggling. Garrett has been awful since his red hot start. He’s hitting .209/.288/.300 over his past 44 games. Smith is hitting .211/.242/.326 over his past 25 games. Meneses forgot how to hit for power, going .229/.257/.300 over his past 18. Vargas is hitting .158/.238/.211 over the past three weeks. Dickerson is hitting .200/.222/.250 over the past month…

      All of these guys play positions that Alu plays. While Abrams and Ruiz have been struggling too, I don’t expect Alu will suddenly become a SS or a C. He does, fortunately, know how to play 3B, 2B, OF, and hopefully 1B.

    3. If/when Candelario gets moved I expect that Alu would come up and be the regular 3b with Lipscomb moving to AAA and possibly House to AA. We’ll see.

      1. Seems to make a lot of sense. Once draft happens many guys will be be moving. Either up in org or out of org. With todays roster limitations, teams limited on how many domestic players they can keep so they’ll move on quickly.

    1. it was a legit high fly home run down the LF line. he got down 1-2, fought off some pitches and pulled an offspeed pitch, low and on the outside corner

  5. Adon and Parker are both trending slightly better, let’s hope the second half starts off with a continuation for them. they both have the stuff, albeit ending up in relief roles

    1. Nats just need a deluge of a handful of amateur draft healthy starters then more progress out of some Latin arms

    Any word on Cole Henry coming off the dreaded developmental list? With his injury history, I worry.

    I probably missed it if it was publicized, but do we know what Pablo Aldonis’s injury was and how long he’s supposed to be out? More worry.

    1. In case some of you were confused/wondering re: Bennett, while Luke has Andrew Alvarez starting for Wilmington tonight, Wilmington’s site lists Bennett as the starter.

        1. And after all that… Caceres is sent up and starts ahead of Bennett/Alvarez/Hoffa. ::facepalm::

    2. Henry was not sharp in his last outing, his fastball tailing out of the zone. reason for caution if not concern
