Two missed extra points did not end up costing the Red Wings as they built a 12-0 lead after six “ups” and withstood a late charge to hold on for 12-7 win. Wily Peralta lowered his ERA for the Month of May to 7.08 with five scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season. Drew Millas was the beer man on a 14-hit night though he drove in two with a pair of sacrifice flies. Matt Adams led the hit column with three singles and a double, followed by Derek Hill, who doubled three times for three RBI. Roster moves: IF Erick Mejia, RHP Jose Mujica activated from 7-Day I.L.; RHP Amos Willingham placed on 7-Day I.L., retroactive to 5/26; UT Franklin Barreto released.

Harrisburg’s bullpen woes continued as they coughed up the lead in the 8th and were walked off again in the 9th, 5-4. The meltdown turned a serviceable start from Mitchell Parker of two runs on four hits (one HR) and a walk over five innings from a possible win into a no-decision. Reading took Lucas Knowles deep twice in the 8th to mar his AA debut with a blown save. Joel Peguero took the loss with the “help” an error as he loaded the bases with one out but couldn’t roll the DP needed and instead gave up a single to plate the game-winner. Four Senators had multiple hits, led by Leonel Valera (1B, HR) and Blake Rutherford (1B, 2B) while J.T. Arruda and Onix Vega both singled twice.

The Blue Rocks busted out for four in the bottom of the 7th on a two-run triple Jacob Young and a two-run HR by James Wood as they stopped a two-game skid and beat the Renegades, 7-5. Andrew Alvarez got the start but was lifted in the 5th after Hudson Valley got to him for four runs on seven hits and two walks, though he contributed by hitting a batter and throwing three wild pitches. The rally made a winner out of rehabber Sean Doolittle while Todd Peterson got the rulebook save with a run in the 9th. Will Frizzell and Matt Suggs also hit homers (both solo) as Wilmington made the most of its eight hits and two walks. Roster moves: T.J. White placed on 3-Day T.I.L.; LHP Alfonso Hernández, OF Jared McKenzie activated from 7-Day I.L.; LHP Sean Doolittle assigned from Washington for MiLB Rehab.

Baker, Kieboom and Alu at the top of the Wings lineup is reason to be in your seats for first pitch. with the DH spot available I see no reason to line things up any differently every or mostly every day

      Nice table setting in Rochester
Will this be Bennetts final outing @ Fred today ?
Fred will just have to make do with the arms on the staff presently since most NCAA arms drafted in same summer normally don’t plop right into a Fred rotation grind unless they are a special talent .

James Wood has been promoted to Harrisburg Senators according to WaPo’s Jesse Dougherty

Just read that too. Thought they would wait awhile longer but when your OPS is .972 and half your games are at a notorious pitchers park its time.

He was toying with High A pitching.

It’s really interesting how some players get fast tracked in their development and others seemingly slow tracked. (And funnily enough sometimes the same player gets both treatments. Jose Ferrer spent 3 full seasons in rookie ball, then got promoted 3 levels in one season.) I wonder what it is that the development staff look for, because it doesn’t seem to be strongly correlated with statistical performance.

But Wood sure deserves the promotion. Plus it helps with the bottle neck of OF prospects at the A/A+ level (will this clear space for Lile’s promotion?)

Lile’s numbers are still the best of the outfielders at Fredericksburg but he has cooled lately. Wonder what the f.o. will do next.
