Matt Adams’s 4th HR gave Rochester an early 1-0 lead but Syracuse struck back with a two-run shot in the 6th to take Game One, 2-1. Joan Adon gave up the aforementioned dinger and five hits total over five and 2/3rds innings. He walked one and struck out five while losing his first game of ’23. Jack Dunn led the hit column with two singles in three trips to the plate as the Red Wings mustered five hits total.

Any chance the Red Wings had for a late-inning comeback vanished with a five-run 6th as the Mets completed the doubleheader sweep with a 7-0 shutout in the “aftercap.” Jake Irvin pitched into the 6th but was lifted after giving up back-to-back singles to open the frame. José Mujica gave up two more singles in the space of three batters to let in both inherited runners, then coughed up an Earl Weaver special to put the game out of reach. Rochester managed just four hits, including singles by Matt Adams and Wilson Garcia and doubles by Travis Blankenhorn and Jack Dunn.

Somerset struck for two in both the 2nd and 3rd innings and that would be more than enough to send Harrisburg to a 5-0 loss. Mitchell Parker gave up those four runs on four hits and three walks over two and 2/3rds. He struck out four. The Senators mustered just two singles – one by Jake Arruda, and the other by Justin Connell. Both were caught stealing. Harrisburg drew four walks total and went 0-for-3 with RISP.

Four Senators pitchers combined to shut out the Patriots, 3-0 on three hits, and split the twinbill. Ronald Herrera got the start and pitched into 4th, allowing a walk and three hits while fanning six. Orlando Ribalta finished the 4th and pitched the 5th to pick up the win, with Garvin Alston putting up a zero in the 6th for a hold, and Amos Willingham setting the side down in order in the 7th for the save. Drew Millas and J.T. Arruda both went 2-for-4 to pace the Harrisburg offense.

A five-run 4th was the undoing of Wilmington in an 8-2 loss to Aberdeen in the opener. Dustin Saenz picked up where he left off last season, giving up two runs on a home run and three hits total over three innings. He walked one and fanned three. The loss went to Dannel Diaz, who retired just one of seven batters faced. He was charged with five runs (three earned) on two hits, two walks, and a Robles. Jacob Young led the Blue Rocks offense with a single, double, and an RBI while James Wood drove in the other run on a third-inning single.
