Veterans Matt Adams and Wilson Garcia both homered twice as Rochester put up its first “W” of ’23 with an 11-4 smackdown of Syracuse. Cory “Don’t Call Me Roger” Abbott held the Mets to three runs on five hits (two HR) and one walk over five innings to get the win. Travis Blankenhorn also homered as he led the Red Wings’ 12-hit parade with three hits, followed by Adams, Garcia, Chad Pinder, and Darren Baker.
Harrisburg Senators
The Senators open 2023 with a three-game series in Somerset. Officially, the roster has not been released, but from “LM” in the comments:
Pitchers – Alston, Cate, Carillo, Cuevas, Guash, Kilome, Lee, Parker, Peguero, Pena, Ribalta, Romero, Rutledge, Schaller, Troop, and Willingham.
Catchers – Lindsly, Millas, and Gonzales.
Infielders – Arruda, Cluff, Frizzell, Meregildo, Sanchez, and Valera.
Outfielders – Antuna, Connell, Harris, and Upshaw.
Wilmington Blue Rocks
Wilmington will start with a grueling 45-minute road trip to Aberdeen to start the season today, tomorrow, and Saturday. Like Harrisburg, an official roster has yet to be seen.
Fredericksburg Blue Rocks
The FredNats begin tomorrow night with three against the Hillcats. No roster yet, but perhaps one of our commenters was at last night’s “Meet the Team” banquet.
As was the case a year ago, if/when I receive the official releases, I’ll try to update this space.
UPDATE – ROSTERS ARE IN!
All three teams have now released the Opening Day rosters:
Here is my 727 guess: Wood Young
MacKenzie Rivero V Peña Emiliani
White W. Perez Lipscomb Infante
M Romero and I’m sure a couple surprises .
Juan Hillman 60 day DL placement explains his disappearance from roster .
Another TJ ?
First glance takeaways from rosters
Paul Witt learning catching
Roismar Q uintana going to pick it @ 1b . Might as well with the PT allotted in OF
Dannel Diaz jumps to High A as a young Cuban IFA recent
Schumpert going to be a Blue Claw mentor like Matt Adams doing @ Rochester especially with W Garcia .
Ronald Herrera cut loose ?
Nice that Fred Nats have a pronunciation section
Morning senility : Barley , Witt , S Williams .
I remain amazed at what Darren Baker is doing. His track record in college made him sure look like yet another legacy draftee who would flounder for three years and disappear. Kudos to him for continuing to work hard. The guy ahead of him at the next level currently is hitting .125 . . .
While there are several guys at Harrisburg who still could have interesting futures, the names that interest me most are Frizzell (skipping A+), Parker, and Rutledge, and of course Hassell once he’s healthy. There are a number of pitchers at AA who one would have thought might have been at AAA, so it’s now or never for a lot of those guys. On the plus side for them, though, is that there isn’t exactly a stampede of younger pitching ready to force its way into the upper part of the system.
I’ll go out in a spring limb : Parker
Minor league pitcher of the campaign ?
Meanwhile will Q Tomlin reach FRED or XST?
Heavy rains this afternoon then 5-10 pm heavier in Maryland , sports fans .
Looks like the folks are tweaking the Wilmington roster @ website . They just have to add the outfielders
FRED not quite readjusted
I bet they play two in Aberdeen on one of these days in Opening series
Big board updated for all four full season roster announcements!

Let me know if you see any errors. I’m color coding promotions/demotions to show the movement of players.
Bummer seeing some of the pitchers
Names on XST list including Ron Herrera , Fonzi and Knowles
KW might get wowed by Florida Gator Nick Pogue hop scotching from the Complex to A plus to join Lara in rotation . Andry please start eating a fish diet !
Curious to see how Marlon Perez and Dannel Diaz get used long term .
It’s opening day! Every player will be fabulous and promoted three levels! Hope springs eternal . . .
Quintana being listed with the infielders is the biggest surprise. Of course Green, Cox, and Thomas might be the fastest OF ever fielded. Frankly, I thought Lile was more of a candidate for move to 1B than Quintana.
Third-round picks Infante and Boissiere repeating the level. I’m not exactly sure where they intend for Infante to play with House at 3B and Cruz and Lawson at SS. Stehly is Zobrist/or Chris Taylor — he can play anywhere. He’s a interesting guy who no one is talking about, had a monster season at U of Texas last year. But he turns 25 in September, so he’s got to click quickly.
Pitching and INF at Wilmington look pretty thin, but mega OF. I thought we might see White moved to 1B there, particularly with five OFs. College draftees Lipscomb and McKenzie are intriguing. It’s about time the Nats break the jinx of failed college hitters.
In that vein, I’ve already noted the interesting push of Will Frizzell all the way to Harrisburg. He must have crushed it in Florida. He only has 34 games at low A, 45 as a professional . . . and he’s in AA.
Stehly should be talked about once every infielder accepts his roles in the
House – Cruz- Infante – Bossy-air – Q
Run out .
Yes pitching is think but what could come out of the arms being run out for Blue Claws especially Pogue , Cornelio and Huff . We await to see who embraces starters roles @ A plus .
Jeff, while Mitchell Parker is a good story, and I love that he continues to confound the pundits by getting guys out, if he’s the pitcher of the year for the organization, then we’re in trouble. The rebuild is really going to spin its wheels if they can’t develop at least some of the high-ceiling starting pitchers. Rank them however you wish, but the ones I see are Susana, Henry (if/when he can get healthy), Bennett, Rutledge, Lara, and Denaburg, if he can ever get healthy and back to first-round quality. Theophile has the size and power to at least make him intriguing. And Adon still could be thought of as a “prospect” despite last season’s gruesome MLB experiment. We’ve been told that Aldo Ramirez might be that quality as well, but he’s been buried in the witness protection program since August 2021.
Of those, my pick to click is . . . Susana, with Henry winning the “Nationals’ Way” award (is that what it’s called now?) after his dramatic comeback. (Really should rename the award for Aaron Barrett.)
The ultimate summer would be the maturity in a big crop of arms
Besides the already Bally hooooed
Cornelio , Pogue , Luckham , Parker , Saenz Lara , etc etc .
