Nats Walk Off Tigers, 2-1
With the “help” of two walks and two errors, the Nats scored twice in the 9th to not lose to the Tigers, 2-1.
Chad Kuhl went five innings in his second ST start and gave up Deteroit’s run on four hits and a walk while striking out five.
Andres Machado picked up the win, having struck out the side in the top of the 9th.
Four watchlisters came off the bench:
- Trey Lipscomb subbed for Jeimer Candelario at 3B in the 7th. He doubled to lead off the 9th and scored the tying run on a bases-loaded walk by Leonel Valera
- Nathaniel Ochoa Leyva pinch-ran for Keibert Ruiz after the backstop drew a walk in the bottom of the 7th but did not advance a base
- Jacob Young pinch-ran for Corey Dickerson in the bottom of the 9th, who reached on the first Tigers error, stole second base, and scored on the second Detroit error
- Jeter Downs played CF in the top of the 9th but did not bat in the bottom of the 9th
The win pushes Washington’s spring record to 10-9-1 with seven games remaining in Florida and a preseason tuneup on the 28th.
The Nats will play their fourth straight game in West Palm Beach as they host the Mets tomorrow night. Patrick Corbin is expected to make his fourth spring start, opposed by Justin Verlander. The game can be heard locally on 106.7FM.
Well, that was a thing.
