Nats Beat Scherz…er, Mets, 11-6
The wheels came off the bus for Max Scherzer in the 3rd as the Nats sent 13 men to the plate and eight runs in as they beat the Mets, 11-6.
Meanwhile, former Met Trevor Williams stretched to two innings in his second appearance. He gave up one hit, no runs, no walks, and struck out two.
No watchlist players were in the starting lineup. Here’s how “our guys” did when they came off the bench or in from the bullpen:
- Yasel Antuna subbed for Alex Call in LF in the 6th and homered in the 9th for the final Nats run
- Jake Alu replaced Luis García at 2B in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th
- Israel Pineda followed Riley Adams behind the plate in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th
- Jake Irvin pitched the 7th and 8th innings, and gave up a hit, a walk, no runs, and fanned four
- Brenner Cox pinch-hit for Jeimer Candelario in the 9th and grounded into a double play
The win evened up Washington’s 2023 Grapefruit League record at 3-3-1.
The Nats return to West Palm Beach this afternoon to host the Cardinals. Josiah Gray is expected to make his second start of the spring, opposed by Connor Thomas for St. Louis. The game can be heard (wait, what?) on 106.7FM.
interesting watching Max trying to game the pitch clock. Darling’s comment was “Max’s had a HOF career pitching to his tempo, not sure why he’s trying to match up to the clock now” (or something to that effect)
Ok ok
Let’s have Kuhl get his work in @ Rochester and see what shakes out .
Irvin is reported to be throwing his sinker again. in yesterdays outing only saw it once along with once change-up, FBs and curves exclusively hitting upper 90’s in his first inning of work. starting every turn at Rochester will be interesting to watch.
Brenner Cox looks like he 14 years old. held his own in a 7-8 pitch at bat and the ball was hit sharply
Fred MD yes yea Irwin getting BOSSman excited too
Rochester rotation should be interesting including days of bullpen by committee variations too.
They have Jake Alu at 2nd base again. This just dumb!
He was the best 3rd baseman in all the minors last year, by the metrics. Let’s see what he can do there this spring.
Hi Luke, I think there’s some kind of cookie problem – on whatever browser I use (usually safari, or on my iPhone), it seems to not refresh to the latest available post from the homepage – it keeps a historical version.
If I clear cookies manually (which I can do, but it’s laborious), it works, but then freezes again at “today’s” version.
Don’t know if there’s an easy fix? I’ve noticed this since maybe mid to late Jan…
My WordPress skills are pretty limited but I do try to clear my cache after every post and post a link on the Twitters and Facebook. Have you tried adding an RSS reader to your browser? I’ve tested it and the feeds still work.
