Jake Alu Born: 4/6/97 Ht. 5’10” Wt. 175 Bats: L Throws: R Career Stats |
Alu improved his walk rate from 5.7% to 9.0% and his slugging percentage from .444 to .506 while playing at AA and AAA, which earned him a spot on the 40-man roster. The turning-26-y.o. figures to challenge for a 26-man roster spot in 2023, but the odds are against him given Rizzo’s well-known bias towards veterans over prospects.
Sammy Infante Born: 6/22/01 Ht. 6’1″ Wt. 185 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
The Nats’ 2020 2nd Rd. pick broke out for 17HR in ’22, which was fifth-best in the system and the best for age-appropriate players. That came at a cost of 127K in 100G (30.5%), which was actually worse than 2021, where he was facing guys that struggle to throw strikes consistently. While he figures to be able to stick in IF at the corners, that K rate needs to improve dramatically if he’s to rise any farther than High-A.
Trey Lipscomb Born: 6/14/00 Ht. 6’1″ Wt. 200 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
The ’22 3rd Rd. pick out of UTenn showed flashes of brilliance in his brief stint at Fredericksburg (.719 OPS in 23G) but also gave credence (3E in 22G) to scouts’ belief that his glove is behind his bat. Given that he only played one full seasons as a starter in college, it’s probably a safe bet that he’ll start ’23 in Low-A unless the Nats decide to shift Brady House to 3B. |
