Four of the six (one more than usual due to the layoff in 2020) made it stateside and one of those four got the bump to Low-A, where he threw more innings than in the FCL. I’m not sure if this is because this was an unusually good group or if we’re starting to slide toward the incumbency trap.

Now, let’s take a look at last summer’s DSL Arms…

Jefrem Leon
POS: RHRP
JULY 1, 2023 AGE: 20
STATS: 2-0, 0SV; 7G, 7GS, 36IP; 2.00/2.70/1.11 in the DSL
0-1, 0SV; 4G, 1GS, 6⅔ IP; 6.75/2.18/1.65 in the FCL
The Aruban import was actually a little worse in 2022 than 2021 in the DSL and struggled in limited work in the FCL. As with many of these guys, there’s not much else to find.

Camilo Sanchez
POS: RHRP
JULY 1, 2023 AGE: 20
STATS: 1-0, 2SV; 11G, 1GS, 21⅓ IP; 2.53/2.69/0.94 in the DSL
0-1, 0SV; 3G, 0GS, 2⅔ IP; 16.88/9.45/3.38 in the FCL
Sanchez was a prototypical older, presumably overlooked pitcher from Panama who did well enough to get a look in the FCL, where he was pounded in three appearances.

Angel Roman
POS: RHRP
JULY 1, 2023 AGE: 19
STATS: 2-1, 0SV; 14G, 0GS, 27⅓ IP; 2.96/3.15/1.13 in the DSL
Likewise, Roman made his pro debut at 18 as a Venezuelan import and piled up 11.5 K per 9IP.

Doimil Perez
POS: RHSP
JULY 1, 2023 AGE: 19
STATS: 2-2, 0SV; 13G, 6Gs, 32⅔ IP; 2.76/3.29/1.04 in the DSL
Perez repeated the level and improved upon his primary line but also saw his peripherals weaken (1.3 to 3.3 BB/9IP; 10.0 to 7.7 K/9IP).

Marcos Fortunato
POS: RHSP
JULY 1, 2023 AGE: 19
STATS: 0-4, 0SV; 43⅓ IP; 4.36/3.65/1.22 in the DSL
The 18-y.o. Dominican was second on the team in IP, trailing only 20-y.o. Randy Lara and walked just nine batters over 43⅓ innings, which is unusually good control for a young pitcher.
