Jake ‘no respect’ Alu continues his torrid behavior. What a way to finish the season.
The instrux started yesterday, has anyone seen a roster? All I’ve seen are photos of the top prospects.
I’d rather see Andrew Stevenson or Nick Banks (.794 & .795 OPS) than Victor Robles at this point in Washingron.
WAR isn’t everything, but the top 3 in WAR (baseball- reference) for the 2022 Washington Nationals were
1. Juan Soto 3.8
2. Josh Bell 3.7
3. Victor Robles 1.8
(Lane Thomas 1.7, Keibert 1.4, Carl Edwards Jr. top pitcher at 1.4)
Victor’s strong point is his defense: 1.5 dWAR. (not baserunning or throwing decisions). He can pick it out there. If we’re going to replace him, I think it should be with a real CF. Hopefully Hassell is the CF in 2024.
Seems like Victor is Arb eligible and would make ~$2M in 2023 – they would go to Arb with him, right?
Interestingly enough fWAR (Fan Graphs) has Robles at a mere 0.6 WAR, behind 7 other batters: Soto, Bell, Ruiz, Thomas, Vargas, Meneses, and Hernandez.
Yup…bWAR and fWAR handle defense differently.
I do understand the “anyone but Robles” thinking but replacing him with someone who is not a real CF could be a cure worse than the disease, and we want to try to help our pitchers out there.
Here I thought that they picked Robles over MAT because MAT’s salaries were going up in arbitration and Robles was providing comparable production for more controlled years, less money, AND was younger with more upside.
This was actually a reply to Mark L.
FWIW Fangraph’s baserunning metric easily has Robles as the best baserunner on the team.
And 3.2 WAR for Michael A. Taylor in 2022. Congrats to him!
Robles was picked by the f.o. ahead of Taylor because he was thought to have had the higher ceiling. OOPS.
Michael Taylor was rated the best outfielder in all of baseball in 2021.
