Rochester 7 Syracuse 2
• Gore 1⅔ IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• T. Romero (W, 1-1) 4⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 5K
• Alu 2-4, 2R, 2B(10), HR, RBI

• Flores 1-3, 2RBI
Rochester broke out for two in the 3rd and three in the 4th en route to a 7-2 win that split the series, 3-3. MacKenzie Gore made his first appearance since July 25 and worked around a leadoff single in the 1st and gave up a two-out double in the 2nd. While he didn’t issue a walk, he struggled with his command, going to a full count on four of six batters to throw 36 pitches, 21 for strikes. Tommy Romero cleaned up after him to finish the second and tossed four scoreless innings to win his first game for the Red Wings and 7th AAA game overall. Jake Alu doubled, homered, and scored twice while DJ Peters singled and tripled to lead the Rochester offense.
Roster moves: LHP MacKenzie Gore assigned from Washington for MLB Rehab.
Akron 4 Harrisburg 1
• Cate (L, 2-5) 5IP, 5H, 3R, 2ER, 1BB, 6K, HR
• Schaller 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Dunn 1-3, BB
• Baker 1-4, 2B
The Senators avoided the shutout but dropped their fourth straight, 4-1 to lose the series, 5-1 to the RubberDucks. Former prospect Tim Cate lost for the 5th time in 10 AA starts with three runs allowed on five hits (one HR) and a walk over five innings. He struck out six. Jackson Cluff broke up the shutout with a sacrifice fly in the 7th as Harrisburg managed just four hits and two walks. Darren Baker had the Sens’ lone extra-base hit with his eighth double.
Wilmington vs. Hudson Valley – CNCLD
Wilmington would have had to win again yesterday to finish above .500, but, thanks to the rain, they’re even at 65-65 for the 2022 campaign.
Fredericksburg 14 Salem 2
• Atencio (W, 5-2) 5IP, 7H, 2R, 2ER, 4BB, 3K
• Grissom 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• A. Cruz 3-5, 2R, BB, 2RBI
• Infante 2-5, 2R, BB, 2-2B, 2RBI
• Frizzell 3-6, R, 3RBI
• J. Young 2-5, 3R, 2BB, SB(52)
Fredericksburg showed no signs of rust in the season finale, going medieval on the buttocks of Salem for 14 runs and 19 hits in win #75. Jose Atencio picked up his fifth Low-A with five innings of two-run ball on seven hits and four walks while striking out three. Four relievers followed with a scoreless inning apiece, combining for five hits allowed, no walks, and three whiffs. Armando Cruz reached base four times with three singles and a walk, followed by Will Frizzell with three singles and three RBI. Every starter had a hit and seven batters had two or more as the team went a Nintendo-esque 11-for-24 with RISP.
Roster moves: RHP Mason Denaburg placed on the Developmental List; LHP Peyton Glavine placed on the 7-Day I.L.; RHP Jared Zinn reassigned from the FCL.
Add Payton Glavine to our ever growing list of pitchers made of glass…
I wonder if any Wilmington players will get promoted to Harrisburg, like Zinn and Cruz have done in Fburg? Unfortunately, there’s very little deserving talent remaining on the team. But among the bats, Onix Vega and Justin Connell would be the only two candidates I see. Among the pitchers, Jack Sinclair, Lucas Knowles and Mitchell Parker would be the best options.
Carlos Romero was stellar this season in his long relief role .
Senator Romero …
Luke we caught the snarkle : former prospect , Tim Cate …
he sure ended his A+ season on an up-note, only 1 BB w/16 K in 9 IP over four appearances. they may try to find him some extra work in PA or AZ
Something certainly “clicked” this year with Romero. His strikeout rates skyrocketed this year. He almost doubled his career rate this year, going from about 7ish per 9IP to over 12. The control is still really worrisome, walking over 5 per 9IP.
Marlins designate lefty Andrew Nardi
Nats drafted him in 39 th round in 2018 out of Moorpark College …
Realize its unlikely, but wouldn’t mind if the Nats promoted Frizzell to H’burg after the F-Nats win the Carolina League title.
Indeed even for just two games .
Frizzell the monster mash – er
As co-chair of the T.J. White fan club, it’s still great to see he’s becoming more consistent as he piles up the AB’s.
As for the Wilmington pitchers, you have to believe most of them have reached their innings limits. We will find out.
Sinclair was a starter in college, so I’d expect he’d have a bit more stamina than most relievers. Parker is “only” at 100 IP, so if they hope to stretch him into a regular SP, he’s going to need to gradually build up to 200 or so IP over the next couple years as he reaches the majors… and if not a promotion to Harrisburg for a handful of innings before their season ends, they’d both be good AFL candidates. Most AFL arms, even the starters, don’t even get 20 IP, so it’s not particularly workload intense.
But you’re right that Knowles is likely tapped out at this point.
Agree that I’d love to see Sinclair and Parker in the AFL. Can think of at least 10 players I’d like to see there.
Luke kudos on another stellar summer of daily grind in the morning updating the farm activity on NP along with all the household chores .
