Wednesday’s News & Notes

Team Yesterday Today Pitching Probables

Harrisburg OFF DAY vs. Erie, 6:30 p.m. Irvin (0-3, 3.14) vs. Flores (3-2, 2.83)
Wilmington OFF DAY @ Winston-Salem, 7 p.m. Cate (4-3, 2.61) vs. Solesky (3-6, 4.41)

FCL Nationals Won, 8-5 OFF DAY
DSL Nationals Lost, 8-7 vs. DSL KC Glass, 11 a.m.

Rochester Red Wings (41-38, 4th place, 2GB, I.L. East)
Rochester continued its descent to .500 with five losses to Worcester. Amazingly, the Red Wings are still only two games off the pace despite going into the negative for its run differential (374 vs. 427).

Harrisburg Senators (2-5, 5th place, 3GB, E.L. Southwest – 32-44 overall)
The Senators hit the reset button but remain in 5th place after five losses in the first seven games of the second half. They continue their series against the SeaWolves this week before heading back out on the road to Hartford next week.

Wilmington Blue Rocks (4-5, 5th place, 1½ GB, Sally Lg. North – 39-35 overall)
Wilmington took three of five against Jersey Shore before dropping the opener against Winston-Salem. This is the only series between the Blue Rocks and the Dash, continuing the league’s tradition of being two leagues in one with some token games between the two divisions.

Fredericksburg Nationals (9-1, 1st place, 3GA, C.L. North – 42-34 overall)
The FredNats are riding an eight-game win streak, which includes a series sweep (first-ever on the “W” side) of Delmarva last week. Fredericksburg continues its series against the first-half champion Lynchburg this week before heading to Georgia for the first of two series this season against Augusta.

FCL Nationals 8 FCL Marlins 5
• Aldonis (W, 1-2) 5IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 6K, HR
• Marte 2-2
• De La Cruz 2-3, 2R, BB, RBI
• Quintana 2-4, 2R

The F-Nats busted out for two in the 1st, three in 3rd, and three in the 4th and held on for an 8-5 win over the F-Marlins. Pablo Aldonis picked up the twin with five innings of two-run ball on four hits, no walks, and six strikeouts. Daniel Marte, Christopher De La Cruz, and Roismar Quintana combined for six hits, four runs, a walk, and an RBI to power the offense.

DSL Giants Black 8 DSL Nationals 7
• Leon 5IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 4K
• Montero (L, 0-1) ⅔ IP, 0H, 1R, 0ER, 2BB, 1K
• Castro 2-4, 2R, BB
• Ju. Garcia 2-5, R, 2B, HR, 5RBI
• Ramirez 2-5, R, 3B

A 7-1 lead was too small for the D-Nats bullpen to hold as they coughed up six runs in the last three innings in an 8-7 loss.

First, thanks Luke for showing the 2nd half records. When you look at box scores MILB only shows total year records.

This is relevant to nothing but a great stat of the Cleveland Guardians. Not only are they the youngest team in MLB but they are younger than any team in AAA!

Perhaps that theme of prudent PD promotions keeping the blood fresh at the upper levels and a rebuild in progress .
Something hinted at by that fangraphs post about Nats farm review .

Will Frizzell drove in three with a first-inning double. Considering Branden Boissiere’s struggles, the Nats really need one of their 1B/DH types to find some traction. As a senior draftee from college, Frizzell is already 23, so the time clock will be ticking fast on him, and he’ll never be quite age-appropriate for any of the lower levels.

Frizzell is the third hitter I will be watching at FCL, along with Cruz and Quintana. Cruz managed to score three runs yesterday while officially going only 1-for-5 with no walks.

This reinforces the problems caused by the f.o.’s inability to move the players upwards. Unless he’s still injured you can’t have a 23 year old in the FCL.

Time for the f.o. to wake up.

hopefully it’s just a rehab assignment, time will tell

ITA. I am really getting bored of watching prospects decimate the competition over and over and over again while waiting for the call up to the next level. FanGraphs described the progression of our prospects up the ranks as “glacial” and that might have been kind. Why the heck is Tim Cate, for instance, still at High-A? Why are Jeremy De La Rosa and Viandel Peña at Low-A?

          São mag
It’s as if brass Keri’s those needing a bump in spots where promotions from below are not confident TJ make the push
          Cate a good example
An affiliation doesn’t want to do too many bullpen outings per week

you’d have to displant Baker for Pena, plus he has been regressing over the last two months

Cate gets a little break since WS three best hitters are lefties. still, they are highly ranked prospects so it will be a good to see how he matches up.

Per MilB transactions, Malvin Pena up to Harrisburg, Guasch down to Wilmington.
