A five-run 7th erased a 3-0 lead and sent Rochester to its seventh straight loss, 7-4. Cade Cavalli kept the RailRiders off track with five shutout innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out three. The loss went to Luis Avilán as he let in both inherited runners and two of his own on two hits, including a two-run HR. Joey Meneses singled, tripled, and drove in two while Josh Palacios singled twice to extend his hit streak to 16 games and stole his 20th base.
Roster moves: RHP Will Harris reassigned from Fredericksburg for MLB Rehab.

Harrisburg 5 Akron 2
• Troop (W, 6-2) 6⅔ IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 4K, 2WP, BK, HBP
• Schaller (H, 4) 1⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Dunn 2-3, 2B
• Pineda 1-4, R, HR(GS), 4RBI

Israel Pineda’s grand slam highlighted a five-run 7th as the Senators beat the RubberDucks, 5-2. Alex Troop pitched a career-high six and 2/3rds innings and gave up both Akron runs on six hits and three walks to win his sixth game. Reid Schaller got the last out of the 7th and worked around a hit in the 8th for the hold while Zack Brzykcy pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save. Jack Dunn led the Harrisburg hit column with a single and a double while Justin Connell also reached base twice with a single and a walk.

Wilmington 6 Jersey Shore 5
• Knowles 4⅓ IP, 5H, 4R, 3ER, 1BB, 6K, HR, WP

Lucas Knowles pitched into the 5th but was pinched for four runs on five hits (one HR) and a walk. He struck out 6th. Garvin Alston got the win in relief while Richard Guasch picked up the save, rolling a double play to get out of the 7th and then retiring the side in order in the 8th and 9th. Kevin Strohschein’s two-run double got the rally started while Onix Vega capped it off with a three-run homer.

Salem 9 Fredericksburg 3 – COMP.

The FredNats were able to cash in two runs when play resumed with the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the 5th but Salem tacked on two more in the 6th and two more in the 9th to take this one, 9-3. Andry Lara lost for the sixth time in 16 starts with five runs let in on five hits (one HR) and four walks. Yoander Rivero singled, doubled, and scored a run while Will Frizzell rounded out the Fredericksburg three-hit barrage with a single.

Salem 6 Fredericksburg 2 – GM. 2
• Caceres (L, 4-6) 6IP, 10H, 5R, 5ER, 1BB, 7K, HR

Fredericksburg led 2-1 going into the 4th when Salem pressed Bryan Caceres for three more runs as they took the nightcap, 6-2. Caceres gave the bullpen some rest as he worked six innings, giving up ten hits and five runs and striking out seven. Paul Witt homered behind Andry Arias’s leadoff single in the 3rd to account for both FredNats runs and both Fredericksburg hits.

FCL Nationals – OFF DAY
As noted in the comments, 19 of 20 picks from Washington’s 2022 Draft have already signed, with 20th Rounder JeanPierre Ortiz holding out. Ortiz is a commit to FIU, so it would likely take the Nats going well above slot ($125K) to persuade him to sign. For those interested in a player’s perspective on what it’s like to be drafted, former National Jacob Turner has you covered. (Caveat emptor: He’s now an “advisor to Athletes & Entrepreneurs” – this link ≠ an endorsement)

DSL Nationals 2 DSL Giants Black 0
• C. Sanchez 4IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Polanco (W, 3-2) 3IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 2K
• W. Diaz 2-3, R
• Contreras 1-3, 2RBI

Two D-Nats pitchers combined to shut out the D-Giants Black, 2-0, on one hit in a seven-inning game. Camilo Sanchez got the start and allowed the one hit over the first four innings. Bryan Polanco closed out the game with three no-hit frames, issuing one walk and setting down two on strikes. Jhoan Contreras singled in two runs in the 4th while Winder Diaz singled twice and scored once to pace the D-Nats offense.

Since May 17th, when Cavalli got pounded for 5 ER and didn’t even make it out of the first inning against the IronPigs, Cavalli has quietly been dominant.

    9 GS, 47.2 IP, 1.89 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 50 K, 16 BB

It’s a super small sample size, but in Israel Pineda now has a SLG% of .800, with 4 XBH (2 2B and 2 HR) in 4 games.

In fact, almost all the recent promotee hitters have been pretty good so far.
    Meregildo: .333/.455/.667
    Pineda: .267/.267/.800
    Millas: .273/.529/.727
    Emiliani: .200/.250/.533
    Martina: .400/.400/.400
    Frizzell: .231/.375/.308
    Witt: .167/.444/.667

The only one starting off poorly is Baker: .211/.286/.211

But again, VERY small sample sizes here, but some promising early returns!

looking forward to seeing the newest IFA pitch in F’burg tonight.

Lara’s effort on Tuesday was disappointing. couldn’t repeat his delivery and was all over that place. just close your eyes and say he’s still 19, he’s still 19…

quietly good game for Jose Sanchez, 1-2 with 2 BBs. I’m content with him in A+ even though I rarely get to see him. he’s a solid player in all phases of the game

Does anyone remember who the first 2021 draftee to appear in a game last year? I remember it took the Nationals ages (weeks longer than some other teams) to assign their 2021 draft picks to a team. For example, Brady House didn’t make his first appearance until August 23. Anyone think it’ll take as long as it did last year? I never understood why there was a month and half between the draft and the players being assigned, as if I recall, in past years there used to be as little as a week between a player being drafted and appearing in their first game (e.g. Jacob Rhinesmith was drafted on June 5, 2018 and played his first game on June 16).

Does anyone know if the Nats have any bonus money left over from the first 10 rounds for Ortiz.

Lots of times they’ll draft a guy and if one of their early round guys don’t sign they can use that money.

I do remember they gave Lucas Knowles around $143,000; right up to the penalty line.

Speaking of Rhinesmith . Is he still in witness protection , Luke ?
Dittos FredMD on keen eyes on another IFA into Fred mix

Jacob Rhinesmith is on the IL in HBG and has been there since May 27th. I see him every home game along the first base line during the National Anthem. Not sure what his injury is.
