A change of venue made no difference as the Red Wings were shut out, 7-0, to extend their skid to seven games. Sterling Sharp made the start and turned in his best outing: one run on seven hits and two walks over five innings while fanning four. He was rewarded with a loss as the Rochester offense was AWOL, managing just five hits and four RISP chances. Andrew Stevenson was the sole Red Wings batter to reach base twice as he went 2-for-4 with a double.
Roster moves: RHPs Reed Garrett, Jackson Tetreault added to 40-man, recalled to Washington; LHP Francisco Perez recalled to Washington; RHP Jordan Weems optioned from Washington.

Conversely, Harrisburg remains in a groove with its third consecutive 2-1 win and sixth straight win overall. Franklyn Kilome allowed the Flying Squirrels’ run on a solo shot and two hits total. He walked two and struck out seven to win his first game of the year. Offensively, Justin Connell drove in both Senators tallies with a two-run HR in the 5th. Defensively, the 23-y.o. gunned down the tying run at the plate to end the 8th on a one-hop throw and a nifty tag by Drew Millas. Harrisburg outhit Richmond 6-5 and left on three baserunners.

The Blue Rocks rallied for two twice to tie the game at 2-2 and 4-4, then got two more again in the bottom of the 8th for a 6-5 win over the Cyclones. Seth Shuman surrendered all five Brooklyn runs on eight hits (one HR) over five innings. He walked none and set down three on strikes. Ricardo Méndez drove in three, including the go-ahead run in the 8th while Israel Pineda tripled and doubled and Yasel Antuna singled twice to lead the Wilmington offense. The win went to Garvin Alston with a scoreless 8th while Jose Ferrer struck out two in the 9th for his second save.

Fredericksburg’s pitchers limited the top-hitting team in the Carolina League to just two runs. But Myrtle Beach shut out the league’s second-best offense, 2-0, on six hits to take the series opener. Mason Denaburg went the first three, allowing two hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out four. The loss went to Andrew Alvarez, with one run let in on three hits over four innings with five whiffs. Branden Boisserie went 2-for-4 while four others collected just a single as the FredNats were 0-for-6 with RISP and left on eight baserunners.

OK, I jinxed Tetreault, saying that the bar was low to give up fewer than six in three innings . . . Do they try next with someone like Sharp, or start the service time clock on Cavalli? We’ve got to be close to passing the Super 2 date.
Very good to see a strong outing from Denaburg. Presumably, he still has high-ceiling talent, even if it may take him a while to get back to that level.
What was with the Little League ( right , Todd?) outing with MD vs solid MB lineup ? High pitch count for 3 IP ?
Or just get Abe in for some work ?
Sharp for a look in big club ? Why not ? It’s a rebuild and we’re going for that NBA style lottery / ten o’clock news lottery draw .
It’s just a Cabernet my old chum as the song lyric goes …
Luke : Witness Protection
Is where big Wil Frizzel is now ?
Count me equally curious on frizzell. Hopefully he’s not injured.
Would the Nats claim another jettisoned Oriole arm in Zak Loether
I like what they have in Alex Troop vs that guy
Denaburg’s outing was very efficient and brief. The two singles were in the third, the first one a ground ball that hit the first base bag. On the second the CF made a wild throw and as a result Denaburg was running all over the field that inning. I can think of no other reason he did not come out for the fourth, his pitch count was reasonable and he appeared fine. His curve ball was particularly biting and he got a number of swings and misses on it.
Looks like Justin Connell wS the star of the night in the system.
Hey Will, Nattering had a question that I would also like answered. Where do you get signing amounts for our IFA’s?
Speaking of which, $10,000 signed Rodney Theophile toes the slab tonight.
The Nats aren’t very forthcoming with IFA bonus amounts. Sometimes BA has the amounts or MLB Rumors, but very inconsistent. You have use your Google machine to find them and you’ll never get all of them
A nice inning for Cronin, pitching to those pinstripes must raise the excitement level for a prospect.
Odd outing for Sharp vs SWB Stripers
Solid start then the wheels fell off
I vote for Sharp up to big club so Brass can kick the tires..
Millas also made another great play in HBG. He made a diving catch on a foul popped up bunt and then threw to second to double off the runner.
do we really need 25 yr old Junior Martina taking up 4 ABs a game in the FCL?
I had the same thought re Martina when I saw his name in Luke’s highlights. I guess that’s part of the problem of pushing the draft back a month.
I wonder if Richard Guasch would command some interest with his erratic electric arm at trade deadline especially from a guy like Trader Jerry D in Seattle ??
Thoughts ?
