Rochester was shut out, 3-0, on five hits for the third Red Wings whitewash in June. Carson Teel made his first AAA start of the season on six days’ rest but was saddled with the loss with one run let in on two hits over four innings. He walked none and fanned seven. Taylor Gushue and Andrew Stevenson were the only two Red Wings to reach base twice as Rochester went 0-for-4 with RISP and left four men on base.

The Senators led this one 2-0 for four innings, but the wheels came off the bus in the 5th as the Flying Squirrels got five and then five more over the next three innings en route to a 10-2 smackdown. Steven Fuentes lost for the fourth time as he gave up five runs on four hits (two HR) and three walks over four and 2/3rds innings. It was the 9th loss this season in the 28 games in which Harrisburg scored first. Justin Connell reached base three times with two singles and a walk while Jack Dunn (two singles) and Jake Alu (1B, BB) reached base twice.

Brooklyn drove in its free runner while Wilmington did not in a 1-0 game decided in eight innings. Mitchell Parker saw what should have been a complete-game shutout on three hits turn into a quality no-decision, with three hits and three walks over seven scoreless innings. The loss went to Amos Willingham on two hits in the 8th. The Blue Rocks managed just four singles and not one base on balls. They went 0-for-7 with RISP and four left on base.
Brooklyn 4 Wilmington 1 – GAME TWO

The Cyclones blew past the Blue Rocks in the second game with a three-run 3rd en route to a 4-1 win to sweep the doubleheader. Spot starter Carlos Romero was the losing pitcher, allowing the aforementioned three runs on four hits (one HR) and two walks. He struck out one. Yasel Antuna homered for the sole Wilmington run while four other batters had one single. The Blue Rocks were 0-for-4 with RISP and stranded six.

Fredericksburg fell for the fifth time in the last six games as Myrtle Beach tripled them up, 6-2. Bryan Caceres put on 11 baserunners in the space of 25 batters but only two scored over his five innings of work. Todd Peterson served up a two-out, two-run HR in the 7th to register the loss. Jake Sullivan singled twice to lead the FredNats hit column while T.J. White doubled for the sole extra-base hit. The loss dropped Fredericksburg to .500 (31-31) and two games out with four games left in the first half.

The F-Nats got one in the 1st and then were out to lunch shut down as the F-Cards put the game away with a six-run 6th. After Mason Thompson struck out the side in the 1st, Adrian Ogando made his stateside debut with four scoreless innings, allowing one hit, one Victor Robles, no walks, and four K’s. Junior Martina singled twice and walked while the rest of the lineup went 0-for-24 with four walks.
DSL Colorado 2 DSL Nationals

DSL Colorado got single runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings, making them stand up for a 2-1 win over the DSL Nationals. Randy Lara Went the first five innings and let in both D-Colorado runs (unearned) on three hits with no walks and four whiffs. Marcos Fortunato finished the game with one hit, no walks, and six strikeouts over the last four frames. The D-Nats were held to four hits, with Dawry Martinez (single, stolen base) and Jean Estrada (double) teaming up with two outs in the 2nd for the lone D-Nats run.
Amidst a lousy day on the farm, Mitchell Parker had another good outing. The only thing keeping him in High A are the walks. His ERA is a sparkling 1.96!

Despite the losses, there’s a number of good pitching performances.
Mitchell Parker’s control seemed a lot better than recently. Also impressive he was able to go 7 innings.
A really good outing from Carson Teel. After a short undeserved demotion to AA, he returned to AAA with a really good start (only his second of the season). Though I hope they don’t try, yet again, to make him a starter. He’s been universally poor in the rotation, while being consistently very good in relief, yesterday’s game being the exception.
Finally, another good outing from Adrian Ogando in the FCL. He’s now up to 9 IP with only 3 H allowed and a flawless 0.00 ERA. He’s struck out ten and hasn’t walked a batter yet. He’s 18 and had an awful DSL last year (10.80 ERA), so I was surprised to see him promoted, much less still in the system. Good thing, because he’s still only 18.

I saw Parker pitch last night in Wilmington. Left-handed. Does the arm-raise thing before every pitch like Kershaw. Success was not based on velo – fastball was 91-92. His swing-and-miss pitch was the curve.
The Blue Rocks got 1 run in 15 innings of ball last night. Antuna really launched one. Other than that, it seemed like Meregildo was the only one making solid contact all night.

Thanks for the firsthand report on Parker. Deception and moment trump velo, and indeed Parker is surrendering only 4.9 hits per nine, a stellar number. If he can get his walks under control, he could be a good one. I do wonder whether he nibbles and ends up with the walks somewhat because he doesn’t have the velo to go directly after guys, though.
