Rochester 7 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 6
• Je. Rodriguez 2⅔ IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 1BB, 3K, WP
• Fry (W, 3-0) 1⅓ IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, 2-0 IR-S
• Stevenson 3-5, 2R, 2B(20), HR(5), 2RBI
• Ad. Sanchez 3-5, 3RBI
• Vargas 1-4, R, 2RBI

Andrew Stevenson homered to lead off the 9th and give the Red Wings a 7-4 lead. That turned out to be pivotal as the RailRiders rallied for two runs with two outs and had the tying and winning runs aboard before Jordan Weems induced a flyball to Stevenson to end it and stumble to a 7-6 win. Jefry Rodriguez led the parade of relievers and labored through two and 2/3rds innings, letting in two runs on five hits and a walk. Jace Fry cleaned up his mess and pitched another inning to pick up the win. Stevenson, Adrián Sanchez, and Ildemaro Vargas would account for all seven Rochester hits and RBIs.
Roster moves: RHPs Cory Abbott, Joan Adon (27th man); Andres Machado optioned from Washington.

Richmond 5 Harrisburg 1
• Irvin (L, 0-2) 5⅓ IP, 4H, 4R, 4ER, 0BB, 8K, HR, HBP
• Guasch 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Alu 1-3, R, BB, HR, RBI
• A. Young 1-3, 2B

Jake Irvin pitched into the 6th for the first time this season, but it may have been an inning too far as Richmond got to him for a three-run HR and four runs total as he suffered his second AA loss. He pitched five and a 1/3rd innings, allowed four hits and no walks, and struck out eight. Jake Alu homered to break up the shutout as the Senators were held to five hits and three walks total.

Wilmington 4 Brooklyn 3
• Cate (W, 4-2) 6IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 2BB, 4K, WP
• Ferrer (H, 2) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Banks 2-4, R, HR, 3RBI
• Barley 2-4, 2-2B(6)

Tim Cate notched his first quality start for 2022 and fourth win as the Blue Rocks survived a late rally to win, 4-3. Cate gave up an unearned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four. Jose Ferrer added two goose eggs for his second hold. Amos Willingham came on as an injury replacement (Tyler Yankosky)* and served up two runs on three hits while getting the last two outs. Nick Banks bookended the Wilmington tallies with an RBI single in the 1st and a two-run HR in the 7th. Jordy Barley doubled twice while Kevin Strohschein gunned down another runner at the plate for a 9-2 DP to end the 8th.
*Still no MiLB.tv in Wilmington, nor was the injury specified in the Blue Rocks’ gamer.

Fredericksburg 9 Myrtle Beach 1 – COMP.
• Rutledge 4IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• B. Peña (W, 2-1) 3⅔ IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 4K
• Williams 3-4, 2R, 2B,
• Arruda 3-3, 2R, 2B, HR, BB, 4RBI, SB

Fredericksburg picked up where they off on Thursday night and put a hurt on Myrtle Beach, as they extended their lead to 7-0 on an Earl Weaver special off the bat of J.T. Arruda with two out in the 5th and cruised to a 9-1 win. Bryan Peña earned his second win as he pitched three and 2/3rds innings with the one Pelicans runs let in on three hits and a walk while setting down four on strikes. Arruda also singled and doubled and drove in four total while Steven Williams singled twice and doubled once to lead the FredNats’ nine-hit, five-walk attack.

Myrtle Beach 3 Fredericksburg 0
• Saenz (L, 2-1) 3IP, 1H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 2K, HR
• Sinclair 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Infante 2-3
• Rivero 1-2

The FredNats were shut out, 3-0, on five hits in the nightcap. Dustin Saenz returned from the I.L. but lost for the first time, giving up one run on a HR and striking out two over three innings. Sammy Infante singled twice, while Jacob Young, Yoander Rivero, and Steven Williams each singled once. It was the fifth shutout of the season for the FredNats, three of which have come at the, um, wings of the Pelicans during this series.

FCL Cardinals 4 FCL Nationals 3 (10 inn.)
• Agostini 2IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 3K, WP
• Marquez 3⅓ IP, 0H, 2R, 0ER, 1BB, 3K, 2-0 IR-S
• Gomez (L, 2-1) 2⅔ IP, 0H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 3K
• Geraldo 2-4, 3E
• Amparo 1-3, 2B

The F-Nats outhit the F-Cards 9-0 but issued five walks and committed five errors, which was “good” enough to lose in 10 innings, 4-3. Gabriel Agostini put in two frames as the starter and issued two walks while striking out three. The loss went to Miguel Gomez, who let in the free runner in the top of the 10th, with the “help” of Angel Geraldo’s third error of the game. The F-Nats never led in this one, tying the game at 1-1 in the 5th and 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th. Geraldo singled twice to lead the hit column while Yeuri Amparo collected the sole extra-base hit, a pinch-hit double in the 7th.

DSL Nationals 5 DSL Mariners 4
• Rivas 4⅔ IP, 3H, 3R, 2ER, 1BB, 5K, HR
• Polanco (W, 1-0) 2⅓ IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 6K, HR, HBP, WP
• D. Martinez 2-3, 2B, 2RBI, SB
• Contreras 2-3, R, SF, RBI
• Mojica 2-4, R, RBI

The D-Nats rallied for three early and two late as they edged the D-Mariners, 5-4. Gustavo Rivas pitched into the 5th but gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits (one HR) and a walk while striking out five. Bryan Polanco closed it out for the win with a run let in on a solo HR and three hits total over the final two and a 1/3rd innings. He walked some and fanned six. Dawry Martinez drove in the tying and winning runs with a two-run double as he, Jhoan Contreras, and Misael Mojica each had two hits to lead the D-Nats’ offense.

Irwin seemed to tire in the sixth as his velocity was down a couple mph. same thing happened in the fifth of his last start so he’s getting better. he didn’t appear as crisp as last time but still pretty good.

Cronin seemed to be rushing his delivery and was not sharp.

disappointing that no milb.tv exists in Wilmington. I’ve signed up for this after being offline for a few years. the coverage is generally pretty good for scouting the pitchers. once the ball’s in play the production truck can be a little challenged.

Bad news on Yankoski, he only threw 8 pitches.

House didn’t play either game, must be hurt again.

it appears Connell is committed to getting his walk rate back up. he ends up taking a fair number of K’s looking. he’s going to need a strong second half if he’s going to continue his prospect rise.

Highly touted Roismar Quintana, who missed most of last season due to injury, is off to a slow start in the FCL this year: .222/.250/.296 after seven games. He does have two doubles among his six hits and is two for two in steals.

Even more highly touted Cristhian Vaquero is making more noise in the DSL: .292/.419/.500, with a double, two triples, and six walks in eight games. I didn’t understand why they didn’t start him in the FCL, like they have most of their top Latin prospects, but at least he’s off to a good start. He is listed at 6-3, 180, and won’t turn 18 until Sept. so is younger than most of the prospects in the domestic draft.
