Rochester 7 Syracuse 2
• Tetreault (W, 4-2) 6IP, 3H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 6K, HR
• Baldonado 1IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Barrera 3-5, R, RBI, CS
• A. Sanchez 2-4, R, 2-2B
• Lipka 1-3, 2R, 2RBI, 2SB
The Red Wings scored in each of their last four turns at bat to turn a 2-2 tie into a 7-2 win. Jackson Tetreault closed out a strong month of May with his fourth win and his first quality start, as he gave up a two-run HR and three hits total over six innings. He walked three and struck out six. Patrick Murphy, Alberto Baldonado, and Jace Fry each turned in a scoreless inning in relief. Tres Barrera led the Rochester hit column with three singles, followed by Adrián Sanchez’s two doubles. Joey Meneses smacked his 11th HR while Andrew Stevenson added his 10th double.
Roster moves: LHP Matt Cronin promoted from Harrisburg; LHP Ben Braymer released.
Altoona 5 Harrisburg 1
• E. Lee (L, 0-3) 5IP, 10H, 5R, 4ER, 0BB, 6K, HR
• Kilome 4IP, 4H, 0R, BB, 5K
• Millas 2-4, 2B
• Dunn 1-4, R, HR, RBI
Altoona put up four in the 2nd and one in the 4th, which would be more than enough to give Harrisburg its sixth straight loss, 5-1. Evan Lee came off the I.L. but was responsible for all five Curve runs on ten (10) hit and no walks over five innings. He set down six on strikes. Franklyn Kilome finished the game with four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and a walk while fanning five. Drew Millas broke up the no-hitter with a double while Jack Dunn ended the shutout bid with a solo HR. The Senators were limited to six hits and two walks while striking out 12 times.
Roster moves: LHP Evan Lee activated from 7-Day I.L.
Abderdeen 5 Wilmington 4
• Parker 1⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 5BB, 2K
• Yankosky (BS, 5) 1⅓ IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 0K, WP, 1-1 IR-S
• Brzykcy (BS, 1; L, 6-1) 1IP, 1H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 3K, HR
• Méndez 2-4, R, HR, 2RBI, CS, E(1)
• Jo. Sánchez 2-4, RBI
A pair of two-out errors led to three unearned runs to erase a 3-0 lead in the 7th while a two-out, two-run HR dealt the Blue Rocks the decisive blow for a 5-4 loss to the IronBirds. Mitchell Parker walked five of nine batters faced before he was lifted after an inning and 2/3rds. In 27⅔ innings, the 22-y.o. southpaw has issued 23 bases-on-balls. The errors gave Tyler Yankosky his fifth blown save in seven chances. Zach Brzykcy, who gave up the game-winning HR, lost for the first time in ’22 while blowing his first save in five chances. Ricardo Méndez and José Sánchez both went 2-for-4, with Méndez hitting a two-run HR and Sánchez delivering an RBI single in the 1st. The rest of the lineup went 2-for-22 with a double (Omar Meregildo) and four walks (two by Cole Daily).
Roster moves: RHP Curtis Taylor assigned from Rochester for MiLB rehab.
Fredericksburg vs. Salem – PPD
Rain washed away the game between Fredericksburg and Salem. They’ll make it up with a twi-night doubleheader tonight.
Roster moves: RHP Marc Davis reassigned from XST; LHP Dustin Saenz placed on the 7-Day I.L.
Time to say farewell to Ben Braymer. An 18th round pick in 2016 he had his cup of coffee in 2020, appearing in 3 games and 1 terrific start, which I watched.
A soft tosser, he never found the pinpoint control you need when you don’t have the velo.
At least he’ll be able to regale the grandkids about his career as a major leaguer.
Good luck Ben Braymer
Next stop DC Cronin !
Go get em Tiger
Celebrate Cavilli 7 tonight !!
Other than a shaky 11 innings after promotion to AA last season, Cronin has been lights out across his minor-league career. Career MiLB numbers: 2.25 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 4.7 hits per 9 allowed, 13.5 K/9. At Harrisburg this season, he has allowed only 2.8 hits per 9 and only one (1) run in 14 appearances. He is prone to walk a few more than you’d like, but that’s about the only thing on which to ding him. The only real question is why the organization has been so slow to promote him, particularly with a big club so desperate for relief help. They rushed Seth Romero to the majors in 2020 when Cronin was (and continues to be) demonstrably better.
Cronin is Rule 5 eligible this year, so he’ll be on the 40-man sooner or later. The hope is “sooner.”
The Braves just called up Michael Harris 2
With his switch hitting skills while we await TJ Whites possible shift to hitting right handed only
Hot the road , Jack !
Aaron Sanchez nice to know you .
The timing is odd but the Nats f.o. finally woke up long enough to notice Matt Cronin’s 0.00 ERA.
Hope Parker is not injured, he only threw 43 pitches.
Adrianza left the game in the 3rd inning in HBG. He appeared to hurt himself on a foul ball swing. He then singled to CF, but did not run full speed to first and was removed from the game. Also, Lee gave up a lot of hard hit balls (both hits and outs).
Hate to see anyone hurt, but I also would hate to see Adrianza in a Nationals uniform. That’s just making the already bad a little worse.
Good eyes-on report on Evan Lee, although not great news. If you throw hard but it doesn’t move enough, they can hit it just as hard. (See also Cavalli, Cade.)
Adrianza’s back in there today. I wasn’t at the park but didn’t see anything watching on MiLB.tv I thought was alarming.
Let’s see what Marc Davis has
Bullpen outing tonight for Sens ?
Jackson T ERA dropping like we wish our gas prices would …
Brzykcy with an inning of the three true outcomes.
