The Red Wings broke up the no-hit bid early but mustered just five hits total as the Mud Hens shut them out, 5-0. Jackson Tetreault had but one bad inning, but it was more than enough to wear the loss, with four runs allowed on five hits (one HR) over four innings. He walked none and struck out five. Just two Rochester hitters reached base twice: Trey Barrera with two singles and Joey Meneses with the first-inning single and an 8th inning walk. The Red Wings struck out 16 times, with Donovan Casey wearing the Golden Sombrero and Andrew Stevenson turning the hat trick.
Roster moves: RHP Hunter Harvey, LHPs Sam Clay and Josh Rogers optioned from Washington.
Despite the AAA opening day, there was no official roster release yesterday for the Red Wings. The Nationals are not alone in this situation, as it appears that only a handful of organizations—Astros, Orioles, Reds, Rockies, Royals, Yankees—have released their rosters.
ADON NAMED TO STARTING FIVE
As you might have inferred from the maroon type, Joan Adon will be the big club’s No. 5 starter for the time being, behind Erick Fedde, who threw 4 2/3rds scoreless in the final spring training game yesterday. If the excitement seems muted, it’s because there’s still time for GM Mike Rizzo to find someone on waivers or change his mind.
BA: NINE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT MiLB IN 2022
Baseball America released a good summary of this season. Most notable: All-Star teams without All-Star games. Instead, there will be a four-day break for the full-season teams to coincide with the MLB All-Star Break.
Close second: There are still 20 teams that will not be broadcasting games via MiLB.tv, most of which are MLB-owned. This seems odd because one would think that MLB is dying to make a deal with a streaming partner (e.g. ESPN+) so they can show ads between innings and generate more revenue. I’ll be honest: If it would spare us from the between-innings carnival barking that has overtaken much of the minors, I’d be more than fine with it.
So, only Wilmington will not have a TV availability, is that right?
If so, the same as last year.
Quite dumb for the Nats not to release rosters.
Correct (on Wilmington). My guess on the roster delay, which is most teams, is that there must be a deadline to file the MLB rosters that hasn’t come yet. I would like to think it’s this afternoon or evening, but with our luck, it’s like 12 p.m. tomorrow.
Worrying to see Donovan Casey in such vintage form so early in the season.
It was only 48° in Toledo yesterday so I’m not panicking yet!
Warm bats long taters in June .
Aaron Sanchez good luck to him on his re- invention in ROCH .
Red Wings April 5 Game: Sixteen (16) strike outs & sixteen (16) left on base. Ouch!
