After falling behind 8-1 after four and 10-6 after eight, the Red Wings got the tying runs into scoring position with one out but came short for a 10-8 loss. Spot starter Logan Verrett saw his hand crystal turn to red after just two innings, with three runs let in on three hits (one HR) and two walks. Ben Braymer fared even worse, as the IronPigs smelted him for five runs over an inning and a 1/3rd. Joey Meneses led the Rochester 12-hit parade with four singles and drove in four while Jake Noll also reached base four times with a single, a double, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch.
Roster moves: RHP Aaron Sanchez added to 40-man roster, recalled by Washington.
Reading 4 Harrisburg 3
• Fuentes 6IP, 6H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 2K, HR, HBP

• Gushue 1-3, R, BB, HR, 3RBI
• W. Garcia 2-4
Back-to-back-to-back singles following a one-out error in the 8th turned a 3-2 lead into a 4-3 loss for Harrisburg. The meltdown saddled Alberto Guerrero with a blown-save-loss and turned a “W” into a “ND” for Steven Fuentes. The 24-y.o. Panamanian spun a quality start of two runs on six hits (one HR) and two walks while setting down two on strikes. Taylor Gushue’s 3rd HR accounted for all three Senators runs as they were unable to convert the four singles and three stolen bases into a fourth run.
Wilmington 3 Hickory 2
• Shuman 6IP, 2H, R, ER, BB, 5K,
• Yankosky (W, 1-2) 1IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 0K
• Antuna 1-2, 2R, BB, HR, RBI, 2SB(4), E(4)
• Pineda 1-2, BB
• Canning OF assist at HP
After just five baserunners through the first eight innings, the Blue Rocks had four consecutive batters reach base in the 9th for a 3-2 walkoff win. Darren Baker led off the inning with a single, Yasel Antuna and Omar Meregildo both walked to load the bases and Drew Mendoza capped the comeback with a single up the middle. Tyler Yankosky cordero’d around two hits in the top of the 9th to pick up the win. Starter Seth Shuman notched his first quality start of ’22 with six innings of one-run ball on two hits and a walk and came away with a no-decision. Antuna homered in the 1st, walked and stole two bases in the 7th, and scored on a wild pitch to lead the five-hit, four-walk offense. Roster moves: LHP Garvin Alston assigned from Washington (traded 4/21 by ChiSox).
Fredericksburg 6 Kannapolis 5
• Saenz 5IP, 5H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 7K, HR

• Boisserie 2-4, R, BB, RBI
• Infante 1-4, R, HR, 2RBI, 3K
T.J. White’s solo shot in the 8th proved to be the difference as Fredericksburg extended its win streak to four with a 6-5 decision against Kannapolis. Dustin Saenz made it through five but was stung for three runs on five hits (one HR) and a walk. He struck out seven. Riggs Threadgill was the beneficiary of White’s second big fly as he picked up the win while Jose Ferrer worked around a single in the 8th and a double in the 9th to earn the save. Sammy Infante also homered while White and Brenden Boisserie both went 2-for-4 with an RBI to pace the FredNats offense. Brady House’s two-run single in the 5th extended his on-base streak to 14 and his RBI total to 19.
Roster moves: C Drew Millas assigned from Wilmington for MiLB Rehab.
Cluff (.085) and Lara (.083) are really struggling at the plate.
Garvin Alston the first pitched his way onto Colorado in 1996. His son went to USC – Aiken .
Who is Garvin Alston? A 37th round pick in 2019 he was on the restricted list when traded and looks like filler. We’ll see.
Rodney Theophile in 15 IP this year so far has an ERA of 1.20.
Just noticed the intriguing starting pitching today. Cade Cavalli tries to improve on his 9 ERA.
Evan Lee goes for it with Harrisburg.
And young stud Andry Lara toes the slab for Fredericksburg.
How does Antuna already have four errors in 13 games in LF? Can someone buy him a “Born to DH” T-shirt? Good to see him finally connect with some power. He also has 15 walks in those 13 games, which is an impressive improvement in plate discipline.
T. J. White has scuffled a little at the plate with 15 K’s in 11 games, but he’s also slashing .286/.375/.524, with four doubles and two homers, in full-season ball in what will count as his age-18 season. He actually has one more XBH than House does. And Infante got his fourth homer despite a low average. That’s our future right there, folks. At least those guys give us a little hope. The big club sure doesn’t.
For those who have MLB.TV, they have the highlight today of Brady House crushing this moon shot to LF. Impressive!
