The Red Wings offense and the bullpen both did their parts to overcome a 3-1 deficit after one and take the series finale, 5-4. Luis Reyes got a rotten birthday gift as he was literally knocked from the box as his 14th pitch was returned to sender and lined off his right wrist. He left after throwing 14 pitches, five for strikes, of which three were turned into hits – two singles and a homer. Jackson Tetreault came on with the bases loaded and let in two before getting out of the innings. He then threw four scoreless innings.
Rochester evened things up on the 3rd with a pair of walks by Victor Robles and Adrián Sanchez and a two-run single by Ali Castillo, then took a 5-3 lead as Robles and Sanchez set the table with a single apiece and came around on an error and a groundout. The rallies made a winner out of Wander Suero, as he, Ben Braymer, and Gabe Klobosits each put up a goose egg. Bryan Bonnell cordero’d through 9th, giving up a run on a walk and a single but got the save anyway, his fifth. Roster moves: LHP Sam Clay optioned, C Jakson Reetz outrighted from Washington.
DSL Nationals (31-22, 2nd place DSL South, 2½ GB)
The D-Nats went 3-1 last week and eased into second place in the DSL South. They play the D-Twins, D-Tigers, and the third-place D-Phillies Red in their final week, and have clinched a winning season (wait. what?) and have a mathematical chance of taking the division should the D-Rockies collapse.
Very nice outing for Tetreault, his first at the AAA level. I have a feeling that there is going to be a lot of turnover in arms at the upper levels of the organization, but he’s made a good case that he should be back.
Glad to see Robles still making progress. Doesn’t seem like he’s going to get another shot with the big club this year, though. One hopes the wake-up call has been delivered and received.
Good to see Reetz survive his trip through waivers, although with his struggles this year, there wasn’t a lot of concern that another team would want to add him to the 40-man.
With all the newfound depth for the Nats at catcher Reetz’s best chance may be with someone else.
He’s been around since 2014 and his hitting this year is below his career average.
Hope he has more but right now he has 2 career AB’s in the show.
Mark, I had the same thought about Reetz, that he personally might be better off if another team picked him up. Now that he’s off the 40-man, he should be eligible for minor-league free agency.
Tetreault did a nice job but let’s see what happens when he pitches in the next series. Seems like the hitters start to figure these young pitchers out once they see them several times a series.
Looking for Rizzo to pick up every available minor league FA pitcher this off season.
Just like he has this season?
Yep.
