Rochester got HRs from newcomer Keibert Ruiz and oldcomer Brandon Snyder in a 3-1 win over Syracuse. Ben Braymer tossed six scoreless innings with two hits and four walks allowed. He struck out three while picking up his third win. After a trio of relievers bridged the game into the 9th, Aaron Barrett gave up a leadoff single and allowed it to score on a wild pitch while fanning two to get credit for the save. Lane Thomas singled twice and drove in the first run of the game as the Red Wings collected seven hits total.
Erie 7 Harrisburg 3
• Reyes (L, 7-6) 3⅔ IP, 3H, 5R, 5ER, 3BB, 5K, 2HR
• Tapani 2⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Banks 2-3, BB, HR(5), 2RBI
• Casey 2-4, RBI
The SeaWolves plundered Luis Reyes with a five-run 4th en route to a 7-3 win over the Sens. All five runs came via the longball as Reyes gave up a solo shot to start the inning and a grand slam to former teammate Drew Ward with two outs after loading the bases on a single and two walks. Reyes struck out five over three and 2/3rds while taking his sixth loss. Nick Banks notched his fifth multiple-hit game in the past seven games with a single and his fifth HR while “the new guy” Donovan Casey singled twice and drove in a run to lead the Harrisburg offense.

Bowling Green homered in the 9th to break a 1-1 deadlock and take the opener from Wilmington, 2-1. Evan Lee pitched two scoreless innings to start after missing his last turn in the rotation. Alex Troop went the next five, allowing the first Hot Rod run on three hits and two walks while striking out three. Zach Brzkcy took the loss as he allowed the aforementioned HR (his 7th allowed in 48⅓ IP). Yasel Antuna singled twice and drove in the lone Blue Rocks run while Armond Upshaw singled once. The rest of the lineup went 0-for-24 with three walks.

The F-Nats could’ve used some of those extra runs from Sunday as they got none against the Woodpeckers in a five-hit, 10-0 shutout. Rodney Theophile took the brunt of the Fayetteville assault, giving up seven runs (five earned) on five hits (one HR) and five walks over four and 1/3rd innings. He fanned seven while taking his eighth loss. Newcomer Jordy Barley reached base three times with two singles and a walk while stealing a base… and getting picked off. Ricardo Méndez got the lone extra-base hit with his 15th double. Fredericksburg was hitless in eight scoring opportunities and left on nine baserunners.
FCL Astros 3 FCL Nationals 0
• Hiraldo 4IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, BB, 3K, HBP
Two FCL Astros pitchers were perfect through three innings before rain halted play in the middle of the 4th. They’ll resume play on August 9th (weather permitting, natch).

Isn’t it time for Antuna to be moved up? I know he played poorly in the beginning of the season (poor offense and defense), but his hitting has improved vastly in the past weeks.
Okay Fred, you made me look.Yasel Antuna by month:
May — .388 OPS
June — .651 OPS
July — .917 OPS
After an understably bad 1st month after all that time off, he’s doing quite well.
Yes, but I believe it was Will who pointed out (a) he always starts out slow (b) he’s never had back-to-back “good” months:
2017 (DSL)
June — .708
July — .755
August — .844
2018 (Low-A)
April — .506
May — .598
June — .603
July — .846
2019 GCL
June (1G) — .000
July (2G) — .750
Even if you want to quibble with July/Aug of 2017, the point still remains: Antuna is just now hitting his stride. Would beating up on High-A pitchers for another 3-4 weeks be all that bad? It’s also worth noting he’s still never had 400PA in a single year, either.
I agree, Luke. Let him get his confidence over the rest of the year.
The younger players seem to have been hit harder by the pandemic.
Safe to say many kids needed weeks to get into stride after 2020 was a no go .
Victor , Victor !!
Tapani looked good in relief last night. As noted, former Sen Drew Ward hit a slam into the Sens bullpen.
