Rochester Red Wings (30-43, 5th, 17GB, Northeast Div. AAA East)
The Red Wings shift from playing the first-place to the last-place team for Week Two of their fourth homestand of 2021. Still no word on when they’ll make up the three games missed this past weekend, but the best bet would be during the final series between the two teams on August 17-22.
Harrisburg Senators (28-49, 6th, 20½ GB, Southwest Div. AA Northeast)
Cade Cavalli was named pitcher of the week for the AA Northeast for the period of July 26 to August 1 on the strength of his 12K’s over 6⅔ scoreless innings on Friday. Harrisburg returns home for six against the SeaWolves this week, and six against Fisher Cats next week.
Wilmington Blue Rocks (32-46, 4th, 18GB, North Division High-A East)
Like the Senators, the Blue Rocks return home after breaking a nine-game losing streak and breaking even last week against the first-place Renegades. They’re home for two weeks, beginning with six vs. the AA East’s best team, the Bowling Green Hot Rods – the outlier in KY that was the loser in the 2021 MLB-MiLB takeover as the Tampa Bay affiliate has to travel more than 400 miles one way each time it heads out on the road… in its own division.
Fredericksburg Nationals (27-51, 4th, 19GB, North Division, Low-A East
Fredericksburg makes its one and only 2021 trip outside of the states of Virginia and Maryland this week to go to North Carolina and visit Fayetteville. After a 4-2 week, and their first home series win, the F-Nats remain 19 games out of first in the division and two games ahead of Kannapolis for worst in the league.
FCL Cardinals 10 FCL Nationals 8
• P. González (L, 1-2) 2⅓ IP, 8H, 6R, 5ER, BB, 2K, HR
• Ferrer 3IP, 3H, R, ER,BB, 3K, HR
• Vann 2IP, 1H, 0R, 3K
• Coutts 4-4, 2R, BB, 2RBI
• Torres 3-5, 2R, 3B, RBI
• Amparo 3-5, 2B, RBI
The two teams traded runs for the four innings, but the FCL Cards got more crooked numbers (three vs. two) and that proved to be the difference in a 10-8 win over the FCL Nationals. Pedro González failed to register a clean outing for the 12th time in 13 appearances and lost for the second time in the FCL, seventh overall. It was six runs this on eight hits and a walk in the space of 16 batters. Jackson Coutts reached base five times, scored twice, and drove in two while Ray Torres and Yueri Amparo both went 3-for-5 with an RBI to pace the FCL Nats’ offense. Roster moves: LHP Lucas Knowles assigned from Fredericksburg for MiLB rehab.
DSL Nationals 10 DSL Mets1 5
• Moron 3IP, 8H, 5R, 5ER, BB, 4K
• J. Ramirez (W, 1-1) 3IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Ju. Garcia 3-4, 2R, 3B, 3RBI
• Colmenares 2-4, 2R, HR, RBI
• Cruz 2-3, 2R, BB, SB(5)
I wonder if the new infusion from trades/draft will have any discernible impact on our win/losses, because it certainly can’t get much worse.
Congrats to David Freitas landing in the Rays chain .
I was listening to the Blue Rocks radio feed for a few moments
Sorry I felt like I was listening to a local high school game broadcast .
Does ROcH have the Palka polka between innings during home games ?
What a diff lineup compared to the one in Fresno a couple years ago . ( Jacob Wilson joins a new org I see)
Curious to hear the scouting report on Donovan Casey .
Braymer settled down tonight good
You probably were — last I heard they were using local students… And I don’t think that meant the University of Delaware. And they’re not the only ones – seems like a lot of teams never hired a media person this season.
So, any thoughts on the New Guy infusion? Certainly Rochester won’t be getting several guys back, so who among the newbies wins out?
Based on the transactions over the past couple of days, Rizzo is cleaning house — Rainey and Suero down, a fair amount of MLFAs. Obviously, when you’re the 31st best farm system (behind Vanderbilt 😉 this is going to happen…
Luke I forgot the word you use for bitter sarcasm
Behind Vandy ….good one ☝️
Then Rainey on the rail out of town if the right offer comes around ?
Sardonic is the word I think I’ve used.
