Rochester kept up the longball assault with three more in a 7-1 win over Syracuse. Keibert Ruiz went deep twice for the second straight game, driving in four total while Jake Noll added his 12th homer to power the Red Wings offense. Ben Braymer won for the fourth time in five August starts, tossing five scoreless innings with just one hit, three walks, and a Victor Robles. Ronald Peña added one more goose egg but Alberto Baldonado lost the shutout in the 7th, allowing the sole Syracuse run on three hits.

Syracuse 5 Rochester 0 – GM. 2

The clueless Syracuse fans who were wondering why the game didn’t start on time^* were treated to a two-hit, 5-0 shutout of Rochester in the second game. Sterling Sharp took the loss with three runs let in on four hits (one HR) and three walks. He struck out three. Andrew Lee gave up the last two runs while pitching the 6th for his AAA debut. Rafael Bautista’s bunt single to lead off the 3rd broke up the no-no while Mike Ford singled in the 7th to account for the two Red Wings hits.

The Senators got three consecutive two-out singles in the bottom of the 9th. They needed at least one more, as the tying run was stranded at second in a 3-2 loss to the Yard Goats. Tim Cate gave up all three Hartford runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks over three and 1/3rd. He fanned five while losing for the 9th time. Ryan Tapani, Carlos Navas, and Carson Teel combined for five and 2/3rds scoreless innings of relief. Four of the six Harrisburg hits came in the 9th with Jacob Rhinesmith and Jakson Reetz delivering RBI singles before Gage Canning grounded out to end it.

When your most effective pitcher is a position player, you know it’s been a bad night. Junior Martina achieved the feat for Wilmington with a scoreless 8th while mopping up from a 12-4 tanning by Jersey Shore. Seth Shuman got the start and retired just two of seven batters faced. He left with the bases loaded. Malvin Peña unloaded them by sandwiching a single between two walks before getting out of the inning. The loss would be Shuman’s second. Wilmer Perez and Kevin Strohschein both doubled and combined for three 3RBI to lead the Blue Rocks offense.

Fredericksburg 4 Carolina 3

The F-Nats got four runs early and a quality start’s worth of relief as they edged the Mudcats, 4-3. 4th Rd. pick Dustin Saenz gave up one run on four hits in his Low-A debut with no walks and one whiff. Gilberto Chu picked up the win with five innings of two-run relief on five hits (one HR) and two walks. Cole Quintanilla, also making his Low-A debut, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with two K’s for the save. Fredericksburg took advantage of two errors and a wild pitch to score four times on just six hits, though that did include Leandro Emiliani’s second HR of the season.

FCL Nationals 6 FCL Cardinals – GM. 1

The FCL Nats rallied for two in the bottom of the 6th and held on in the 7th for a 6-5 win over the FCL Cards. Bernardo Hiraldo started and went the first three, giving up a run on two hits and a walk. Lucas Knowles gave up the go-ahead run in the 6th but held things down in the 7th for the win. Brady “He’s A Brick” House homered for the second time while Raudy “El Tamiz” Read made his first appearance since May 13 and went deep with a two-run shot.

FCL Cardinals 9 FCL Nationals 4 (8 inn.) – GM. 2

The wheels came off the bus with five runs in the 8th as the FCL Nats dropped the “aftercap,” 9-4 to the FCL Cards. Johan Otanez got the start and gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks over two innings. Kevin Rodriguez took the loss as he coughed up six runs (five earned) on seven hits (two homers) and two walks over three innings. Daniel Marte reached base three times on two singles and a walk while Jackson Coutts singled, doubled, and drove in two to lead the FCL Nats offense. Roster moves: C-1B Raudy Read assigned from Rochester for MiLB rehab.

DSL Nationals – OFF DAY
After taking two of three from the second-place D-Angels, the fourth-place D-Nats resume play after an off day with games today and tomorrow against the sixth-place D-Mets1. Just two games separate these teams with the third-place D-Phillies a ½ game ahead and the D-Yankees1 a ½ game behind the D-Nats.
