Andrew Lee has needed to be moved to relief for a long time. The same could be said for a number of pitchers in the organization, even some higher-profile guys like Seth Romero, Braymer, maybe Cate. The Padres moved Mason Thompson to the bullpen, and he’s in the majors at age 23. Considering the Nats’ perpetual challenge to find quality relievers at the MLB level, I’ve never understood their insistence on having so many struggling starters continue to struggle. They did it all the way to the MLB level with guys like A. J. Cole, who has gone on to a reasonably effective MLB career as a reliever after the Nats burned all of his options trying to insist that he was a starter.

Kudos to Mario Lisson and his staff at Fredericksburg for keeping that team reasonably competitive this season. They had an awful start, and the talent level they have had to work with has not been high. But they’ve kept playing hard, competing every night.

The Jays should have given up more than Adams for Hand

I know that minor-league records don’t mean much, but when you average 33-52 across your top 4 levels, and 12-15 at your bottom 2, that’s pretty terrible. The fire sale has done some good restocking, but I think a more systemic improvement has to be undertaken in the next several years.

Yep, can’t expect different results if you keep making the same mistakes. Our drafting has been downright dreadful in the Rizzo era. Unless he recognizes this and takes corrective action, I don’t see how we get out of this rebuild quickly.

Maybe Rizzo already has? This season’s draft was markedly different from previous drafts? More prep school position players at or near the top?
