Rochester 5 Lehigh Valley 3
• Eppler (W, 2-7) 6IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 4K, HBP
• Klobosits (SV, 3) 1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 3K
• Palka 2-4, 2R, 2HR, 4RBI
• Reetz 1-3, R, 2B, BB, RBI

Daniel Palka homered twice while Tyler Eppler turned in a quality start to lead the Red Wings to a 5-3 win over the IronPigs. Eppler allowed two runs on two hits, a walk, and a Victor Robles over six innings. He struck out four while earning his second win. Gabe Klobosits worked around a single in the 9th by striking out the side for his third AAA save. Palka drove in four runs while Jakson Reetz doubled in the fifth as Rochester collected six hits and three walks on the night. Luis García’s removal from the game in the 5th appears to be related to Trea Turner’s impending trade trip to the I.L.

Altoona 4 Harrisburg 3
• Cate (L, 2-6) 4IP, 7H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 0K, HR, PO @ 1B
• A. Lee 3IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 6K, HBP
• Wiseman 2-3, R, HR, SAC, 2RBI
• Banks 3-4

Harrisburg briefly led on a two-run HR by Rhett Wiseman in the top of the 3rd only to see Altoona take the lead back on a three-run shot in the bottom of the 3rd. The two teams traded runs again in 4th and matched zeroes to finish the game, which saw the Curve win, 4-3. Tim Cate lost for the sixth time in 14 starts as he was dinged for four runs on seven hits (one HR) and two walks while striking out none in four innings. Andrew Lee struck out six in three innings of relief while (the law firm of) Pearson McMahan retired the side in order in the 8th. Wiseman sacrificed Cole Freeman to second in the 5th, which would be the final Sens runner to get into scoring position as the Altoona relievers limited Harrisburg to three singles in the final three innings. Roster moves: 1B-LF Aldrem Corredor placed on the 7-Day I.L.; IF Cole Daily reassigned from Wilmington.

Wilmington 5 Hudson Valley 4
• A. Hernández 5⅓ IP, 2H, 4R, 4ER, 3BB, 5K, 2HR
• Schlabach (BS, 1) 1⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, 2-1 IR-S
• Peguero (W, 2-3) 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 4K
• Meregildo 2-2, R, 2B, BB
• Upshaw 1-3, R, BB, RBI, SB
• 1-for-12 RISP; 8 LOB

With the help of four errors that led to four unearned runs, the Blue Rocks ended their nine-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Renegades. Alfonso Hernández pitched into the 6th for the sixth time in 13 starts but was taken deep twice for four runs while walks three and fanning five. He left with two one and one out in the 6th but a slow tapper to 3rd plated the tying run, giving Hernández the no-decision and Ike Schlabach the blown save. Justin Connell doubled with one and scored on a missed catch error on a would-be 3-1 putout. Francys Peguero gave up a leadoff single in the bottom of the 9th but got a K and a DP to end it and pick up his second win. Roster moves: C Wilmer Perez reassigned from Harrisburg; IF Paul Witt reassigned from Fredericksburg.

Fredericksburg 5 Delmarva 1
• C. Romero (W, 2-3) 5IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 4BB, 3K
• Chu 2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K
• Boone 1-2, 3B, 3RBI, SB
• Martina 2-4, R, RBI, E
• Méndez 1-3, 2R, BB, 2SB

Jake Boone’s two-out, three-run triple would prove to be enough as Fredericksburg won the opening game, 5-1 over Delmarva. Carlos Romero won for the second time in three starts as he let in an unearned run on two hits and four walks over five innings. Gilberto Chu (2IP) led a trio of relievers who combined for four scoreless innings of relief. Junior Martina led the F-Nats hit column with two singles and was one of two batters who did not whiff as the Shorebirds fanned 16 on the night, quite a feat given that Fredericksburg has the second-fewest batting K’s in the Low-A East. Roster moves: 1B Leandro Emiliani activated from the 7-Day I.L.

FCL Cardinals 11 FCL Nationals 8 – COMP.
• A. Lara 3IP, 4H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 3K, HBP
• K. Rodriguez 3⅓ IP, 1H, 0R, BB, 2K, 2-0 IR-S
• Amparo 2-4, 2R, HR, 2RBI
• Emiliani 2-5, 2B
• Arias 1-3, R, 2B, BB

Chris “Chevy” Vann struck out the only batter he faced as play resumed with two out in the top of the 9th. In the bottom half, the FCL Nats went down in order to complete the implosion from up 8-6 to an 11-6 loss that began on July 21.

FCL Cardinals 6 FCL Nationals 1
• P. González (L, 1-1) 2IP, 3H, 5R, 3ER, 3BB, 1K, 2WP, HBP
• J. Mercedes 1⅓ IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 1K
• Coutts 1-2, BB, CS
• Geraldo 1-3, R, 2B

In the regularly scheduled game, The FCL Cards put a hurt on Pedro González with three in the 1st and two in the 2nd en route to a 6-1 win for the “sweep.” Gonzalez gave up three hits, three walks, hit a batter, and threw two wild pitched in two innings for his first FCL loss and seventh overall. Angel Geraldo doubled, took third on a single by Quade Tomlin, and scored on a groundout to break up the shutout. Jackson Coutts had the only other hit for the FCL Nats.
Roster moves: 1B Jackson Coutts demoted from Fredericksburg.

DSL Rockies 1 DSL Nationals 0
• Cedeno 5IP, 2H, 0R, BB, 3K, WP, 2HBP
• Montero (L, 0-1) 1IP, 3H, R, ER, 0BB, 2K
• Bustamante 1-2
• W. Diaz 0-1, BB

Good to see a solid bounce-back by Andrew Lee after a really rough outing last time. Still waiting for a similar recovery from Tim Cate, though. Cate is one of the more highly touted pitchers in the system, but he really seems to have hit a wall at AA. At 23, he’s still got time to figure things out, though.

If the Nats trade a reliever or two over the next couple of days, is Klobosits next up to The Show? The 1093d pick in the 2017 draft? What a story. He’s only surrendered two earned runs over 32 IP this season.

It would be great to see Gabe K. get a chance but I assume they’ll take Javy Guerra and/or Aaron Barrett first since they already have big league experience. Gabe’s day is coming and who knows, it could be sometime this season.

Klobosits is a pitching zero. A bad outing is when he allows a hit; of course he did strike out the side last night.
Luke can correct me if I’m wrong but we have NEVER seen this before. Nobody has touched him with his (h/t Sao) ‘wrath of God’ curveball and everything else.
Nothing warms this seamhead like a 36th rounder knocking on the door.

A hiccup for Alfonso Hernandez, but his numbers for the year are still terrific.
