FCL Nationals Postponed vs. FCL Cardinals, 10 a.m.
DSL Nationals Won, 3-1 OFF DAY

Scranton/Wilkes Barre 7 Rochester 6 (10 inn.)
• Rogers 3⅔ IP, 6H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 1K, 2HR
• Goody (BS, 5; L, 4-3) ⅓ IP, 1H, 3R, 2ER, 2BB, 1K
• A. Sanchez 3-5, 2R, 2B, 2HR, 4RBI
• Dietrich 3-4, R
• Arteaga 2-4

With some “help” from Jake Noll doing his best imitation of Josh Harrison in LF, and a pair of walks from Nick Goody, Rochester saw a two-run lead turn into a walk-off loss in 10 innings, 7-6. It was the second blown-save-loss in less than a week for the journeyman reliever, who retired just one of four batters faced. Adrian Sanchez would have been the game’s hero for a two-run HR, his second of the night, that gave the Red Wings a 6-4 lead in the top of the 10th. Rochester had rallied twice to tie it at 3-3 in the 5th and 4-4 in the 9th. Josh Rogers, another in-season replacement, got the start and was knocked from the box in the 4th with three runs allowed six hits (two HR) and two walks. Roster moves: LHP Matt Tomshaw assigned from Washington (MLFA); RHPs Aaron Barrett, Javy Guerra reassigned from Harrisburg; IF Carter Kieboom activated from 7-Day I.L..

Portland 6 Harrisburg 3
• Cate (L, 2-3) 5+ IP, 3H, 3R, 3ER, 2BB, 4K
• J. Romero (BS, 1) 1IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 1K, 2-2 IR-S
• Corredor 2-4, 2B, HR, 2RBI, E(4)
• Harrison 2-4, PB(2)

Aldrem Corredor’s two-run HR to give the Senators a two-run lead in the top of the 6th disappeared in the bottom of the inning as the Sea Dogs answered with five runs en route to a 6-3 win in the series opener. Tim Cate left with a 2-1 lead but two runners on and nobody out after throwing five-plus innings, with three hits and two walks allowed and four strikeouts. The 23-y.o. southpaw lost for the third time when Jhon Romero let in both inherited runners while giving two runs of his own for the blown save. Corredor also doubled to go 2-for-4, a mark matched by K.J. Harrison as the two combined for four of the eight Harrisburg hits. Roster moves: OF Ramon Flores released; LHP Seth Romero MiLB rehab ended at Fredericksburg, activated from 7-Day I.L., reassigned from Rochester; RHP Jackson Tetreault MiLB rehab ended at Wilmington, activated from 7-Day I.L..; RHP Ryan Tapani activated from 7-Day I.L.

Brooklyn 8 Wilmington 6
• E. Lee (L, 1-3) 2⅔ IP, 3H, 5R, 5ER, BB, 2K, HR, HBP
• Karp 3IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K
• Upshaw 2-4, R, 2B, 3B, RBI
• Daily 1-3, 2R, BB
• Connell 1-4, 2RBI

Wilmington kept with Tuesday’s theme of big innings… on defense, as Brooklyn erased a 4-0 lead with five in the bottom of the third as they held on for an 8-6 win, the fourth straight loss for the Blue Rocks. Evan Lee lost for the third time as he was spun by the Cyclones for five runs on three hits (one HR), a walk, and a hit batsman over two and 2/3rds innings. Armond Upshaw tripled, doubled, scored a run, and drove in a run to lead Wilmington’s eight-hit, seven-walk attack. Roster moves: LHP Ike Schlabach reassigned from Harrisburg.

Salem 4 Fredericksburg 3
• Cuevas 4⅓ IP, 6H, 3R, 2ER, 1BB, 1K, 3WP, BK, E(2)
• Chu 2⅔ IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 1K, 2-0 IR-S
• Urena (L, 0-1) ⅔ IP, 2H, R, ER, 2IBB, 1K, E(1)
• Méndez 3-5, RBI
• Randa 2-4, RBI

The F-Nats loaded the bases intentionally with one out in the 9th in hopes of preserving a 3-3 tie. Edward Urena, whose error put a runner on third with nobody out, got the strikeout for the second out but then let in the game-winner on a single for the 4-3 loss to the S-Sox. Michael Cuevas got the start and let in the first three runs on six hits and a walk over four and 1/3rd innings. Ricardo Méndez singled three times to push his hit streak to 17 games and lead Fredericksubrg’s 12-hit parade, followed by Joe Randa (2-for-4) and Junior Martina (2-for-5). Roster moves: RHP Jackson Rutledge MiLB ehab ended at FCL, activated from 7-Day I.L., reassigned from Wilmington; OF Zach Cornell reassigned from FCL.

Surprised to see Rutledge’s rehab assignment end so quickly. He had two rather poor outings in the FCL. Doesn’t look like he’s ready for real batters yet…

Just the volume of transactions this season is remarkable. Thanks, Luke, for keeping us updated on the never ending carousel.

Bring a thread from yesterday ahead, it’s that time of the year to start monitoring our draft picks signings. The Nats have now signed 7 of 20 picks (including rounds 3-7), and currently have a slot surplus of $210,700. Though if they’re willing to eat a penalty, and push their total slot allotment to just under 5% over, they actually have just under $650,000 to work with. Though I don’t think they’ll need it. House may command a bit overslot, but no one else they draft will need any significant bonus (though Jacob Young, our 7th rounder received $50k overslot, which is peanut compared to what House will probably get overslot).

Tomshaw must be filled with Journey stories since he is truly a journey man .
    Especially on the Southern League

I’m in Portland and Tim Cate did very well the first five innings. As noted, he ran into trouble and Romero compounded it. Errors and passed balls also didn’t help. Tapani struck out two of three batters in his return from the IL. The big draw was a rehab by Chris Sale of the Red Sox.

Maybe LM Tomshaw this season has received shotty play behind him like Cate evidenced by his stat line .7.45 ERA 8 BB 38 IP 35 K
Moreno matching Gabe K so far in pen work results

          Two seasons later minus
Rendon , Howie and Eaton and the magic mojo , the rebuild is in play .
          Carter is kaput
House is in house about to begin his steeping and ascension .
The young arms are perculating on the farm for starting careers and relieving .
The trade deadline may see a chip or two added in swaps .
Next summer the farm system play cannot be this … flat .. especially in Harrisburg where the Expos rarely has a clunker of a product .
