FCL Nationals 2 FCL Mets 1 – GM. 1
• A. Lara (W, 2-1) 5IP, 4H, 0R, BB, 7K, WP

• Dietrich 2-3
• Marte 1-4, R, HR, 2RBI
Daniel Marte’s two-run HR in the 6th proved to be the difference as the FCL Nats edged the FCL Mets, 2-1 in the opener. Andry Lara picked up his second win with five scoreless innings, with four hits and one walk allowed while fanning seven. Manuel De La Rosa wobbled through the last two, giving up a solo HR to lead off the 7th, hitting a batter, issuing two wild pitches, giving up a single, and striking out his fifth batter with the tying and winning runs in scoring position.
FCL Nationals 1 FCL Mets 0 – 0

The FCL Mets outhit the FCL Nats 3-1 but were shut out, 1-0 by the FCL Nats for the doubleheader sweep. Daniel Marte was the hero again as his two-out triple in the 3rd plated Yoander Rivero from first base for the game’s only run. Bryan Caceres went the first three innings and no-hit the Mets while issuing four walks and striking out four. The “W” went to Franklin Marquez, who went the next three and gave up a hit and two walks while fanning three. Miguel Gomez cordero’d through the 7th with two hits but emerged with the save. Roster moves: SS Gio Diaz released.

Good to see a strong start from the much-touted Andry Lara. He had been a bit shaky in earlier appearances, as this one got his ERA down to 3.92, WHIP still at 1.45. He’s only 18, already 6’4″, with some room to fill out from 180 pounds.
The other touted player on that team is 2d round pick (2020) Sammy Infante, who is fighting it after 18 pro games: .213/.310/.361. It’s a very small sample size, of course.
Lara has had two big bad innings this month and has otherwise been quite sharp. Needs to work on righting the ship and limiting the damage when things go pear-shaped.
I think our prospects at multiple levels are about to get some new friends this week and/or next weekend.
It will be interesting to see how many of the draftees get pushed to Fredericksburg, if any. The most likely candidates would be the college players, and perhaps hitters more so than pitchers. But there should be a big influx in the FCL roster.
Interesting interview on FanGraphs with Cade Cavalli on his changeup: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/connor-brogdon-garrett-whitlock-and-cade-cavalli-on-learning-and-developing-their-changeups/

Realize that W-L may not be the most accurate figure of the strength of a farm system, but 106-179 combined mark for the Nats’ 4 full season teams is well-past pathetic. Clear that at each level the Nats generally field teams with inferior talent.
Also, not sure if there are collective team stats for a system, but the lack of extra base power in the system is remarkable. Most nights, it seems like the four full season teams combine for less than 4 extra base hits. Would be shocked if the Nats system wasn’t last by a ton in SLG% and OPS%. The lack of pop is depressing.
Is Daniel Palka working his way to a spring training non roster invite @ ROCH??
