FCL Nationals Lost, 3-0 OFF DAY

Rochester Red Wings (22-31, 5th, 13½ GB, Northeast Div. AAA East)
After taking just two of five from the last-place S-Mets, the Red Wings return to Frontier Field for six against the Bisons. Rochester is now just a ½ game out of fourth place, which, along with $2, gets them a coffee. Roster moves: IF Humberto Arteaga outrighted from Washington.

Harrisburg Senators (20-33, 6th, 11½ GB, Southwest Div. AA Northeast)
Harrisburg heads out to Reading this week, hoping to stop a two-game slide against Philadelphia’s AA entry in the (*ack*) Double-A Northeast.

Wilmington Blue Rocks (23-29, 3rd, 10½ GB, North Division, High-A East)
The Blue Rocks remain in 3rd place but have fallen back another three games off the pace in the North Division, having gone 3-12 since June 18. Wilmington is in Lakewood, NJ this week for seven against fourth-place Jersey Shore.

Fredericksburg Nationals (16-38, 4th, 20GB, North Division, Low-A East)
It’s a stoppable force against a moveable object this week as 16-38 Fredericksburg plays host to 16-37 Kannapolis. The two teams are 11th or 12th in multiple statistical categories, with the F-Nats dead last in hitting (3.69 R/G) and the Cannon Ballers dead last in pitching (7.06 R/G).

FCL Astros 3 FCL Nationals 0
• Ferrer (L, 0-1) 3IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 2K, WP
• P. González 3IP, 2H, R, ER, 0BB, 5K
• Marte 1-3, BB
• Hurtafo 1-3, K

The FCL Nationals were shut out, 3-0 on three hits by the FCL Astros yesterday afternoon in West Palm Beach. After obligatory innings by Javy Guerra (rehab) and Ike Schlabach (MLFA), Jose Ferrer was sent out to pitch the middle innings. The 21-y.o. southpaw was lit up for two runs on four hits to take the loss. He walked none and struck out two. Pedro González, who had been demoted from Fredericksburg in early June, finished the game with a run on two hits while striking out five. Daniel Marte, Landon Dieterich, and Jorge Hurtado each had a single while Andry Arias drew two of three walks, with Marte drawing the other. Roster moves: RHP Javy Guerra assigned from Rochester, 1B Leandro Emiliani from Fredericksburg for MiLB rehab.

Nice to see Ferrer again, but I’m surprised he’s still throwing in rookie ball. I thought his 2019 stats (2.91 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 24 K in 21.2 IP) were easily good enough to justify a promotion to Fredericksburg. Though maybe he’ll have a short leash.

Great to see Emiliani reappear, but should I be worried that he was lifted after one AB?!

Finally, any news on Cole Henry? At least when Rutledge got injured, there was a report on it. My limited googling yields no info about Cole Henry’s injury, except that he last pitched a month ago.

Interesting bio on Ike the latest loogie to join Nats conga line .

Glad to see Emiliani healthy again, he missed 48 games. Lest anyone forget, he hit at a .947 OPS clip as a 19 year old in the GCL in 2019. Hoping he can still be a breakout star this year.

Cade Cavalli toeing the slab tonight; must-see baseball!

Was looking at mock drafts and they universally have us drafting yet another big, college SP.

Is it possible to have too unbalanced of a farm system? Has a team every not had any batters in their top 30 prospect list?!

I’ve seen Sam Bachmann and Ty Madden frequently linked. Some have indicated Gunnar Hoglund would be a reach, and the opposite, Kumar Rocker, would be a steal. Jordan Wicks and Will Bednar have been linked too.

Anyone else would be really surprising, as there’s not actually that many college arms to choose from this year.
