Rochester Red Wings (10-20, 6th, 10GB, Northeast Div. AAA East)
The Red Wings stay on the road with six against the Iron Pigs, hoping to carry the offensive momentum of 56 runs scored in the last series against the Red Sox. Yesterday, Luis García was named the Triple-A East Player of the Week – the second National to earn such honors in as many weeks. Roster moves: RHP Andrés Machado reinstated from the 3-Day TIL
Harrisburg Senators (10-19, 6th, 11½GB, Southwest Div. AA Northeast)
Harrisburg heads back out on the road to Richmond after splitting a six-game set against Portland. Last month, the two teams split their series at City Isle. Roster moves: IF Ali Castillo, OF Ramón Flores reinstated from 3-Day TIL, reassigned from Rochester.
Wilmington Blue Rocks (15-14, 3rd, 4½GB, North Division, High-A East)
The Blue Rocks face the Blue Claws for the second time in 2021, hoping to match or improve upon the 5-1 mark they made last month. Despite taking three of five from Hudson Valley, Wilmington remains stuck in third place. Roster moves: RHP Cole Henry placed on the 7-Day I.L.
Fredericksburg Nationals (8-22, 4th, 12½GB, North Division, Low-A East)
Fredericksburg makes its first trip to Salem, the team it beat for its first win of 2021 after a disastrous 0-15 start. They’ve since won 8 of 15, but still have a long ways to go to either hit. 500 (14 games under) or catch the third-place Red Sox (eight games behind).
After 5 weeks of the season we have some real stars to follow.
Despite being the youngest player in Rochester in 21 years Luis Garcia has an OPS of .875. Even better, his platoon splits are not that big, which was an issue last year.
We still have Pitching Zeros in the system.
Gabe Klobosits & Frankie Bartow both have ERA’s of 0.00!
Andrew Lee is close at 0.71.
Don’t forget Jake Alu & Gage Canning tearing it up at Wilmington.
Any word on Cole Henry’s injury? His line in the box score looked just fine his last outing. And also happened 9 days ago, on May 30. Why are the Nats consistently so slow to take action on injured players this season? Leandro Emiliani is STILL MIA in Fredericksburg, last appearing on May 19! He’s still on the active roster, despite appearing to leave the game early to injury.
None. I can answer the other question: Because teams can shift players on and off the Inactive list (the five or so who can’t appear in the game that night, which is almost always pitchers) there’s no *need* to make a move until there’s more players than spots.
I can’t comment on the shuffle at Wilmington because I don’t think they’ve hired a media person yet. So I don’t know who they’ve been naming as inactive. It would so not surprise me at all if they’ve moved Henry on and off as if he might start.
I suspect (hope) this will improve when the GCL starts back up, eliminating a large amount of “storage.”
In other news, Cavalli was just named BA’s 33rd best prospect, in their most recent list: https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2021-top-100-prospects/
I’m not a member, but if anyone here is and is willing to share the commentary on what has to surely be one of the biggest single climbs for a prospect in recent history, I’d appreciate it!
Final 2020 Ranking: NR
Tools: Fastball: 70 | Changeup: 55 | Slider: 60 | Curveball: 55 | Control: 50
Skinny: The Nationals’ first-round pick from 2020 boasts a double-plus fastball and three off speed pitches that each rate as above-average or better. The best of the bunch is a potentially plus slider.
Two words: click bait. I’m not seeing anything new here except for the #33
That’s disappointing. They don’t even make reference to his fantastic start to the season.
Many of these kids have not been in action for a year outside of WPB camps
The old axiom applies : never take a guy serious until he reaches AA
What broadcaster will be the first to start quoting poet Dylan Thomas when Dillon Thomas steps to the plate for Seattle this week ??
If you can’t make it in AA, you aren’t making it to the majors!!
I don’t think Juan Soto needed those 8 games to cut it in the majors…
Ha!
