Rochester Red Wings (4-14, T5th, Northeast Div. AAA East)
The Red Wings’ homestand continues with an I-90 series against the Mets, the only team keeping them from the cellar. Ben Braymer’s win on Sunday was the first by a starter this season. Just three regulars (Alec Keller, Daniel Palka, Yasmany Tomás) are above the lg. avg. for OPS and the three combined are 98 years old.
Harrisburg Senators (6-12, 6th, Southwest Div. AA Northeast)
Harrisburg heads out on the road again for six against Bowie in a battle of worst against first. As noted in the comments, the Senators were no-hit for six innings on Sunday, which has been a dog-bites-man story for the team that has scored the fewest runs (46) in minor-league baseball and has a combined line of .161/.249/.252.
Wilmington Blue Rocks (9-9, T2nd, North Division, High-A East)
The Blue Rocks remain on the road, heading down to North Carolina for six against the Grasshoppers. Wilmington has scored 78 runs and allowed 80, hence their .500 record. The bullpen has been credited for seven of the team’s wins while the starters have been credited for seven of the team’s losses.
Fredericksburg Nationals (1-17, 4th, North Division, Low-A East)
Fredericksburg heads back out on the road to play Down East in Kinston, the first of only two road trips outside the Commonwealth of Virginia or the State of Maryland (the other is to Fayetteville in August). The F-Nats won on Friday for the first time this season, lost by fewer than four runs for the fourth time on Saturday, and scored a season-high eight runs on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Wood Ducks lead the Low-A East in pitching, so the circumstances for the F-Nats’ first road win will likely be the same as their first home win – getting a shutout or a near-shutout while scratching across one or two runs.
Since the HBG team is in their “bubble” we haven’t had a chance to meet our new Manager. Can anyone shed some light on Tripp Keister? For many seasons, we had Matt LeCroy who is very animated and took an interest in the entire game and the players. I’ve been to every home game and I’m still waiting for Keister to show me some enthusiasm. Please tell me some good things about him!
Tripp’s a good guy – a bit surprised he hasn’t had a run-in yet with the umps, but he will.
There is someone who reads this site from time to time who was at one time a bat boy at Potomac. He posted effusive praise for Keister a few months ago, both as being a good person and a patient developer of players. It’s nice that Keister got promoted, but he’s probably a little torn about not going with the A+ team since he’s a Delaware native and Blue Hen alum.
Keller is an interesting case. He was released last summer in the midst of the Nats’ big minor-league purge, but I guess they brought him back this spring when they realized how thin they are in the OF ranks. He has always hit for good average but not much power and has never taken may walks.
Is Keller the only one from among those released last summer who have been invited back? I haven’t really kept track.
KW, I’m with you on Keller. It’s only 3 weeks but his OPS is .948.
I don’t know about the other clubs but Wilmington just announced that they’re going 100% capacity June 1.
Great! Maybe then we can finally get some actual eyewitness reports on our High-A boys instead of relying on Gameday. At least I can fire up MiLB.tv and watch the other three teams, albeit with variable picture and sound quality.
