Gilbert Lara Born: 10/30/97 Ht. 6’4″ Wt. 198 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
Lara was picked up in the 2018 trade of Gio Gonzalez to Milwaukee, which tends to give him more cachet than he deserves. Yes, he has size. Yes, he can play shortstop. But will he develop into a Kelvin Gutierrez-type player? The stats say no and the eyes don’t disagree, but 3B is Trump-nominee-resume thin at the position, so just being 22 and a capable defender is enough to make the watchlist. | ||
Omar Meregildo Born: 8/18/97 Ht. 6’1″ Wt. 185 Bats: R Throws: R Career Stats |
Meregildo made an Opening Day roster (Hagerstown) yet somehow managed to only play in 24 more games in 2019 than 2018. He’s largely here because he was last year and because there was no one younger or better in Auburn or the GCL. Like Lara, he’s 22 and a decent enough fielder for the position. He actually has a shade more power, but it’s not what you’d expect or want for someone with his size or experience. |
