El Paso 11 Fresno 1
• Braymer (L, 0-1) 4IP, 7H, 6R, 6ER, 2BB, 3K, 3HR; 2-2

El Paso homered off Ben Brayer three times for four runs en route to an 11-1 demolition of Fresno. Braymer gave up six runs total on seven hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out three while taking his first AAA loss. Yadiel Hernandez (two singles, walk, double) and Matt Reynolds (single, three walks) both reached base four times and scored just one run as Brandon Snyder followed Hernandez’s two-bagger in the 8th to break up the shutout.
Harrisburg 10 Richmond 2
• Sanchez (W, 6-1) 5⅓ IP, 7H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 5K, 2HR; 1-2, SB
• Dragmire 2⅔ IP, 2H, 0R, BB, 2K
• A. Sanchez 2-5, 3R, RBI, 2SB, E(7)
• Sagdal 2-4, 2R, 2B, HR, SF, 5RBI
• Barrera 0-2, 2R, 3BB
The Senators scored three in the first and three times in the next the next four “ups” as they cruised to a 10-2 win over the Flying Squirrels. Mario Sanchez allowed both Richmond runs on solo HRs and seven hits total over five and a 1/3rd innings. He walked one and struck out five while notching his sixth AA win. Ian Sagdal drove in five with a double, homer, and a sac fly while Adrián Snches singled twice, stole two bases, and scored three times to lead the Harrisburg offense.
Roster moves: RHP Andrew Lee promoted from Potomac; 1B-DH Austin Davidson placed on the 7-day I.L.
Wilmington 9 Potomac 4

• Meregildo 2-4, R, 2-2B, RBI
• Freeman 2-4, R
Potomac shut out Wilmington for seven innings… just not in a row as the Blue Rocks took the opener, 9-4. Kyle Johnston gave up all five of his runs in the 3rd and six hits over five innings to lose for the eighth time in 16 starts. He walked four and struck out five. Luis Reyes fell part in the 8th after two perfect innings in the 6th and 7th for the final four runs. Omar Meregildo doubled twice while Cole Freeman singled twice to pace the P-Nats attack of eight hits and one walk.
Roster move: RHP Jeremy McKinney activated from 7-day I.L.
Greensboro 9 Hagerstown 7
• Adon 4⅔ IP, 5H, 6R, 6ER, 5BB, 3K, HR, HBP, WP
• Turner (L, 1-3) 1⅓ IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 2K
• Mendoza 2-5, 2-2B, 2RBI
• Rhinesmith 1-3, R, HR, BB, 2RBI
• Pineda 2-4, R, 2B, PO at 1B
The Suns answered a five-run 5th with three to tie it at 6-6 but couldn’t answer the ‘Hoppers rallies in the 6th or 9th to fall, 9-7. Joan Adon came of the I.L. but forgot to bring his command as he walked five and hit a batter while giving up six runs on five hits over four and 2/3rds. The loss went to O.T. Turner with two runs let in on two hits and three walks over an inning and a 1/3rd. Drew Mendoza doubled twice and drove in two while making his MiLB debut while Jacob Rhinesmith lauched his fourth HR to pace the Hagerstown offense.
Roster moves: 3B Drew Mendoza (3rd. Rd. pick) assigned from Washington; RHP Francys Peguero placed on the 7-Day I.L., retroactive to June 28; RHP Joan Adon activated from 7-day I.L.
Auburn 7 West Virginia 5

• Carrillo 2-4, 2R, HR, 2RBI
• Senior 1-2, 2R, HR, RBI
The bullpen gave up four in the 8th to blow a 4-3 lead, but *SURPRISE* it was West Virginia’s as Auburn’s last man on the mound gave up just one run in a 7-5 win. Rafael Gomez got the start but was savaged for four runs on four hits (two HRs) over four and a 1/3rd innings. Alfonso Hernandez stranded a runner while getting out of the 5th and added two more goose eggs. Fausto Segura gave up a HR in the 9th after a scoreless 8th to pick up the win. Landerson Peña led the Doubleday hit column with three singles while Adalberto Carrillo and Eric Senior both homered to highlight Auburn’s 12-hit parade.

• Hurtado 2-5
Roster moves: RHPs Jackson Rutledge (1st Rd.), Todd Peterson (7th Rd.) assigned from Washington.
I can’t remember a hitter draft pick in recent times who the Nats started off at the full-season level. Some have progressed there in the latter part of the summer, like Canning last year, but I’m surprised that Mendoza got the express ticket. I see that he played 1B, which could be an indication that the Nats aren’t even going to pretend that he can play 3B.
Unless Soto moves to the position, they are in pretty desperate need of simeone to play the “slow” corner.
Angelic prayers for the Angels with Tyler Skaggs passing.
Hmmmm. Mike Miley , Lyman Bostock. Donnie Moore. And locally. Nick Adenhart …. meanwhile an Oriole complains about not making the silly All Star classic. Figures. Right , Cane ??
Besides Jackson Cluff, natch, but prior to that it was Ryan Zimmerman. So that’s two in one draft after one in the past 14.
This explains the Blake Chisholm reset this spring
Intl signing period truly not Dollar General values.
Joseph’s release could also be termed purging for new crop. Right , Cane ??
Should Corbin be pitching through grief tonight ??
Bravo to Andrew Lee for his promotion. It’s been a long road back for him. The Nats had several draftee arms who moved up through the system quickly in the summer of 2015: Glover, Brinley, Peterson, and Lee. That seems so long ago.
Interesting to see 3d rounder Mendoza assigned to Hagerstown and have a good first day, while top pick Rutledge goes to Auburn. At least he wasn’t assigned to the extended ST purgatory as Denaburg was.
Rutledge is starting out for the GCL Nats, not Auburn. Denaburg was coming off an injury last year. It’s not like the Nats left Denaburg alone in a corner until this June.
Will be interesting to see if Mendoza exclusively plays 1st base for the rest of the season. The Nats lack organizational prospect depth at 3B, unless Kieboom moves there (or unless Ant signs a long term deal).
Now its time for me to to head to Hags and Memorial Stadium now that Cool Drew has been assigned there.
Like the old song goes..Its now or never…sing it, Elvis..Andrew Lee…
Cane I echo your sentiment about Seijias @ GCL…a nugget that has been panning out with some sparkle this summer.
Southern Fried Bullpen and Dr. Doolittle 2021? Cronin, Pederson and Klobosits??
Strohshein continuing to hit @ GCL. Could he be a Sun soon?
Many/most scouting reports suggested that Mendoza would not be able to stay at 3B defensively. Looks like the Nats have already made their peace with that judgment. They have no one really “blocking” things at 1B, as Zim appears to be in his twilight (and a sticky decision upcoming with his $18M option for next year) and Adams probably just a short-term fix.
My concern with Mendoza is that his college junior stats look a heck of a lot like Wiseman’s, with an even worse propensity to strike out (25% for Mendoza vs. 21% for Wiseman), although Mendoza did walk a lot more (25% to 12%). As we know, K’s have really held back Wiseman and Banks as pros.
Lets see how Rhinesmith does with the taters from here on in with the humidty and Mendoza in the lineup wearing that old Wallach number 29….I cannot imagine how hot the Fresno red pants must be in the California heat at night.,
International signing period starts today. Nats have the least amount available to spend at $4,321,400, but the gap between the most to spend ($6,481,200) and the least is not as great as it is for the MLB draft.
Here are the ranges:
The Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Indians, Orioles, Padres, Pirates, Rockies, and Royals have the highest availability at $6,481,200.
The Athletics, Brewers, Marlins, Rays, Reds, and Twins are next at $5,939,800.
A dozen teams (Angels, Astros, Blue Jays, Cubs, Giants, Mariners, Mets, Rangers, Red Sox, Tigers, White Sox, Yankees) can spend $5,398,300.
The Dodgers and Phillies are capped at $4,821,400, while the Nationals are limited to $4,321,400.
Was wrong about the Nats having the least to spend. The Braves continue to be penalized for violating spending rules in the past. They are limited to $10K per player for all international signees.
Luke. Is this Latin SS signed today a switch hitter like Difo ??
I should add that I forgot about the potential, perhaps inevitable, shift of Soto to 1B. And he’s younger than Mendoza . . .
You said it, KW, before I had a chance to respond. At some point Juan Soto will be a 1st baseman. Not sure when.
I did say that the PCL would toughen up Ben Braymer. Between the inferior juiced balls and the elevation, it will be a test for him.
Looking forward to see how Tetreault does tonight in Harrisburg.
Soto will eventually be late career stage John Milner when he was a Pirate
Tetreault had a good one. Four scoreless, then fenceposts in his last two innings pitching with a huge lead. Well done.
Nationals got their biggest
Accidently posted before. But the Nationals got there most highly touted international signing since the splurge in 2016.
Andry Lara a RHP with allegedly a power arm and control was signed for 1.25 million today. The Venezuelan is the No.16 overall prospect on the International market this year according to MLB Pipeline and their top rated pitcher. They say in his scouting report he has front end rotation potential. Could be interesting..
On the MLB website they have breakdowns of the top 30 international prospects and they have picture of Lara throwing with a Nats cap. This deal was sealed a while ago. Lara is the top ranked hurler on the mlb website, but the top 15 prospects are position players.
The A’s signed SS Robert Pauson (the #1 or #2 prospect depending on the ratings) for $5 million.
Apologies if you’ve used up your allotment of freebies from BA, but if anyone was wondering why BA kept both hands on the keyboard this year about July 2…

No Gilberto ties??
Gilberto is from the DR
Andry is from Venezuela (btw, much respect for the Nats Venezuelan scouts for persevering in harsh times for that country).
Pilchard. Desperate times makes the sales pitch easier
